What is a 'quick' 0-60mph now?

I just wondered if anyone else thinks that the average stock ‘quick car’ is now quicker or not than it used to be.

Up until 2012 I sort of always thought anything under 7 seconds 0-60 was a pretty darn fast car compared to most, anything under 6 secs was very quick, and under 5seconds/mid/low 4’s we’re getting silly quick -and I wonder how this all translates to practical usage on the road.

Obviously there are plenty of cars that will do under 4 seconds now, but I would say there is a real drop off when it comes to this level of performance as stock (RS6 etc).

your thoguhts.

Yeah, I watched something last night on the new Lexus LS500 having a 4.5sec 0-60 time and I thought to myself… WTF? From a Lexus barge? Then I remembered that people were talking about getting sub 3 second 0-60 times in the new RS7 post-tune and it all makes sense… Before you know it, everything will be under 5 seconds to 60.

Anything over 4.2 seconds may as well be an SUV.
the s8 feels slow to me at ~5 seconds.
I want my face to be peeled off as im fighting to catch my breath when i hit the go pedal.

anything 3.X is hella quick

If your car is in the 3 second range you’re like driving an 11 second car and that’s nothing to sneeze at.

It used to be that 5 seconds was crazy quick with cars like the Porsche 911 turbo and the odd ferrari turning the trick. Then the 4 second 0-60 times started coming out and that seemed insane. It’s usually the 911 to break new ground (for reasonably attainable cars anyway, excluding million dollar experiments) and when it got into the 3s, that wasn’t that long ago. late 993 or early 996 turbo I think.

Now a large number of cars are in the 2.5-2.9 second range 0-60 including not only Veyrons but also 911 turbo S, Audi R8 V10+ and it’s sister the Huracan etc as well as the modestly priced GTR.

Really incredible.

My Rs4 was capable of 0-60 in about 4.4-4.5 seconds when it came out 9 years ago and that seemed a little ridiculous for what it was , a 70,000 performance sedan. Now it’s still quick but there’s a plethora of contenders. Audi alone has over a dozen cars that will match or destroy that mark

S3/RS3/TTS/TTRS/S4/RS4/S5/RS5/S6/S7/RS6/RS7/S8/R8

Obviously if your driving a mini van anything under 10 seconds to 60 is something to cheer about LOL

for me I still think the 4 zone is fast and about right for most mid to low entry level sports cars. Sure the super and hyper cars are super fast but I think of the average mid level mustang S4 M4 and the same with GM and Mopar

Yes, whatever you’ve got you always want more, I personally thing anything under 5 secs is dam quick car.

I was a little upset the other night when I could only lose some little punk in a Golf R specification on tight corners when pulling away, then he would catch me up on the straights… this is a 2014 1984cc Golf! I’m driving a 5.2 V10 £70k car wtf, I know Golf is tuned but you know what I mean about catch up now!

I was looking at a first gen R8 with the V8. Says 0-60 4.6, I’m thinking considering the car it is, and my old girl S6 can pull low 5’s, it’s not ‘that’ fast, but obviously owning an R8 is more about 0-60 times… and I’m pretty sure the R8 will corner a bit better than my S6 ;D

I’m also looking at on older RS4 V8 manual jobby, I’d like to drive one and see how it feels compared to the S6, I feel like I need manual shift back.

I think if you put a JHM tune and exhaust on the car you would have a much different feel. A tuned gulf obviouly has an advantage its also lighter.

the V10 is very very detuned. You have a big computer slowing you down. The world looks much different after you get the JHM tune.

…it corners extremely well with the bilsteins, stock wheels, and conti’s

I second this… exhaust/tune/spacers = feels like a new car…

I’ll probably also get the LW crank pulley, LW rotors, etc when the S/C kit releases… Or when I can afford to buy the kit I guess lol…

bear in mind with a shitty driver any car can seem much slower than it really is

I have seen R8 0-60 times in the 4.1-4.2 range, and the newer V8 ones with teh DSG are even quicker.

5 sec is slow to me, 4s are decent, 3s are fast. My next car will be in the 2s

That gold must have had turbo upgrade, not just a tune to catch you in the straight aways

Edit: whats most impressive is how fast cars have become fast! Especially since the power required is geometric. For example to take a 2 ton mid 2 sec car into the 1’s 500hp will need to be added. However, to drop a full sec from 6s to 5s only 80hp is needed, or 10s to 9s 20hp.

We are seeing relatively affordable cars now GT-R/Model S way into the 2’s! Ten years ago NOTHING was in the 2’s.

Back in the day when the 92 ZR1 corvette came out with the key turn for insane power everyone was going crazy about how fast that was…5.6sec slow as fuck now.

1991 BMW M5 6.4 sec sloth
1982 Ford mustang GT 5.0 8.0 a toyota camry, conservative economical sedan, will shit all over that today
1978 Audi 5000s …toyota prius (ya i just went there)

Unbelievable how reliable and fast cars have become and are becoming

I used to always use that on the B5 trolls…id mention that their cars were Honda Accord V6 fast.

;D lol thats hilarious
