What kind of Home TV/Home theater setup do you have?

I picked-up one of these the other day in the 55" size…just amazing! I’ve owned (still do) many high-end plasma but this OLED is at another level.

Saw it at future shop. Picture was great.

I got some LG 49" 4k TV during the black Friday madness. Don’t really watch much TV so definitely not an expert but the picture looks awesome to my untrained eyes

agree, ive been using a bose system for years now, i have been slowly replacing the speakers in my system.

Klipsch. Great sound, but no rear speakers at this time.

When I upgrade, I am considering sonos…

I have a Mirage 5.1 setup. They’ve been great - no complaints at all. The speakers are paired with a Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver

so finally got my internet back on and got to play around with the smart TV features on my TV. didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do, the ease of sharing content is awesome.

Well, bit the bullet (I am fundamentally a cheap bastard), and upgraded my 46" to a 55" in the family room. Got another Samsung. Price was right, quality looked very good (as per Amazon and AVS forums).

Funny thing… it was like my current family room TV found out, and then implemented the “click of death.” After searching online, I found out about a Samsung class action lawsuit for undersized capacitors installed on the chipboard that resulted in the start-up sequence failing.

Funnier thing… class action settlement ended a year ago. That means my TV outlasted the manufacturer’s repair period.

So yesterday, I took the TV apart, soldered in new capacitors on the circuit board (replacing the 10V ones with 25V capicitors), and then sent up a prayer the God-of-all-things-electric. TV fired right up. Now I can move the old 46" to the man-room, replacing my 11 year old 42" plasma (that has NEVER had an issue, and is built like a tank - but was before HDMI connectors, so is a PITA to connect to anything).

The two blue ones lower left were the culprits…

Bold move opening up a brand new TV to swap capacitors. It’s not a terribly complicated issue, but still pretty brave.

The “issue” that occurs, is it not repairable once it starts happening? Or is it a scenario of once it starts happening it’s too late?

He opened up his old broken one

So 4k TVs are starting to ship huh…what 4k sources are there currently? From your computer only?

Thanks - I felt it was a bit bold at first, but there were great online instructions for how to do it, and how to avoid the big capacitor that will kill you. :-\

As I was doing it, I about had a heart attack. I told my 11 y/o son (he was watching) not to touch the circuit board that had the big electric shock symbol with a skull. He said, “this one???” and stuck his finger within one millimeter. Of course, you actually have to touch both terminals on the other side of the board to discharge… but it completely freaked me out.

So i have no need for this, feel free to use the code if you want just post to claim it so others don’t waste their time trying it
