What the hell Audi!!!

Every time Audi develops a great engine they bin it and move to something worse, usually smaller and way less interesting.
Quattro 5 cylinder rasp to 4 cylinder whistle
RS5 high revving V8 to boring turbo V6
S6 screaming V10 to farty turbo V8 and now it seems to awful turbo V6

What next - four cylinders?
Jeez, Porsche did, so it must be OK.

I’m going to have to stay with my old clunker or else find a new marque with real engines. And no, pushrods don’t count!

Bring back normally aspirated high revving engines - sure turbo’s add a boat load of easy power but sound flat and characterless.

Where’s the soul?

I get why they keep downsizing… I just think it’s happening because most people care more about economy and 0-60 times than they care about the sound and emotion, so it’s been deemed acceptable. Also, the E43 using a smaller engine and my guess is that BMW will continue to downsize as well after this round. Most of the people actually buying the cars aren’t putting exhausts on nor taking their cars to the track. High paid accountant I think was the demographic they went for with the C6, so not surprising if their going for the same crowd this time. Hopefully they just chose to use bulletproof internals to go with the 8-speed tranny so it’ll be good for upgrades (4 door supra)

A 3.0L V6… well, that’s disappointing.

One of the coolest things Audi ever did was cram a 5.2L V10 gas-guzzling monster into their high-end sedans. I guess a lot of people don’t agree.

CAFE standards.

None the less the v6 turbo can make good power I’m sure. I just thought they would stretch the 4.0T out a little longer, especially with cylinder de-activation.

Ya, like the article says, I’m sure Audi will find a way to squeeze the some 425-ish HP out of this V6, with a similar 0-60, but at what cost? They’ve sucked the life out of it, now it’s just the same v6/turbo combo as 400 other car models on the market.

That was the coolest thing about the C6 - if you wanted a V10 sedan, your choices were an S6, an S8, or an M5. That was it. And if you wanted it to be AWD, then the S6 and S8 were literally the only cars that fit the bill.

This morning on my way to work, I caught a guy in the back of another car shooting a video of my car with his phone as he drove past. I gave him a show and blew by full-throttle and he gave my a thumbs-up out the window with a big grin on his face.

I’m relatively certain that would never happen with a turbo v6. The car would just get lost in the sea of other turbo v6’s.

Funny, that happened about a year ago with one of my 4 boys in the car. My son said “dad, you really do have a cool car.” What father wouldn’t like that?

The v10 cars have soul for sure. Nothing like then new and nothing like them on the used market.

I will say the v6 in the Alfa Romeo sounds great then again it’s derived from a Ferrari v8 with two cylinders lopped off.

We all see if it sounds similar to the new rs5, if you think about it the current s6 was in 4 cylinder mode most of the time and you know that doesn’t sound great which is why it had some nice active engine mount and noise canceling features, I guess we will have to wait and see on the new car.

This happens all the time. Driving my car feels like I’m doing something for all car enthusiasts that hear me go by lol. Although last week I had a couple people chase me on the highway

is it the Rs4/5 V6? or the S4/5 V6? single or dual turbo?

Will probably be the latter with a V8 for the RS model… I didn’t find that on an official Audi site though so who knows

2.9L twin turbo - shared with Porsche, and 0.1L smaller displacement than the single turbo version in the S4/S5/SQ5.

Official output is 450 hp, but you can bet that it’s putting out more like 500…

As to the lamentations about the loss of the V10s and V8s, I understand, but such is progress…(unfortunately, at times)

So that’s the RS4/RS5 engine?

And if you miss the sound of your V10 or V8…wait till you drive an electric car (which all of you will in about 10 years…I reckon every household will have at least one. Maybe 5 years). It’s pretty funny but to be honest, the silence is just fine by me. Better a silent car than a shitty sounding V6 or i4.

I second that.

Wonder if they’ll have sound symposers for engine noise? have your choice of engine noises to sooth the soul.
