The S6 Gallardo thread got me thinking about who actually owns these C6 S6’s. That mod is a real head scratcher to me, and reminds me of the type of stuff young kids try to do to once they can get their hands on a car that is finally within their price range. All show and no go (yes, I’m making some assumptions about the build). Nothing wrong with that as probably most of us have done something similar along our car enthusiast journey (I know I have. I can tell you some day about what I did to a hood of an '86 Pontiac 6000). Just curious…
I’m 45 BTW, so maybe I’ve already become a curmudgeon.
i’m 31 and have been yelling at kids to get off my lawn for a while now ;D ;D ;D
my older brother asked me why i’d want a C-level luxury sedan. because V10. no other car on the road is going to sound like this again outside of a lambo or ferrari, and even they’re going to smaller, turbocharged + hybrid drivetrains simply because they get better power and efficiency.
You can bet your ass i’m probably the youngest owner of a S6 on here coming in at 21. And for the record, I wouldn’t dare do that lambo IM on mine, lol.
seriously. at that age, everyone will be into Civic Si’s and stuff like that. looking fast, but not necessarily being fast (but the new ones are quite good from what i’ve read). little do they know of what lurks beneath the hood of any semi-modern super-sedan.
i didn’t even realize i wanted an S6 till I was 28. how’d you decide on the S6, GRS6?
I’m simply blessed to have had the opportunity to actually purchase one of these bad boys, have researched the platform on AR for the S6 years prior and all the guys here to lead the way while I simply took notes.
Well, my first car was a 2004 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro, and that’s what got me into Audi’s. So I got onto AR and my passion for German cars let me to look into other Audi models… when I found out that there was a V10 that I could potentially own in several years then I had to make it happen. Tbh, I almost missed out on the opportunity to purchase one but in the end it worked out really well and man is the car a beast. Now it’s all about saving for some of these upgrades and doing regular maintenance. I’ll have my first ever carbon clean (not the car’s) in 4K miles and I’ll be getting the injectors tested too.
I’m 33 and this is Audi #3 for me. First car ever was a Sentra SE-R. Engine locked up on the SE-R due to a failed cat running the engine dry. Nissan corporate admitted the recall caused the failure but refused to cover the engine itself, so I’ve pretty much been against Japanese cars since then. Then came the D2 A8… loved that car… hated the transmission issues that ultimately ended my time with it… Did rack up some notable speeding tickets while I had it though lol (triple digits). Then an old C320 which was cool’ish (despite the issues that it kept having), but then it snowed in my first couple weeks of ownership and I was like “fuck RWD cars” from there on… maybe I’ll get another RWD car someday down the line as a track car, or perhaps a Porsche, but we’ll see. Then a B7 A4. It was cool, left it stock except for tinted windows. Then my mother passed away (sorry, debbie downer) and to make myself feel better (using distraction) I got the S6… Hard to be upset or not appreciate life when you’re in anything with a V10. Even harder to be down after the performance mods and carbon fiber started to flow… That’s about the gist of the journey. Well, now I also have a B6 S4 being assembled by the great JimmyBones. Big thanks also goes to CountVohn and Justincredible also for their help along the S4 journey. I also now have kids on the way, so there won’t be many more big car purchases for me until I make a bit more money to blow lol. Oh, annnnnd our shop should finally be opening soon, but it’s not done yet, sooo I guess we’ll see lol.
I’ve been all over the map. I’m 38 now, but looking back even when I was in my 20s I wanted either a Lincoln Mark VIII or a BMW 850ci (had chances to buy both for around $20k in 2001) then I was into Datsuns, then I got into square body Chevy trucks before they were cool. Bought a MKIV golf with the 2.slow and convinced my mom to buy a B6 Audi A4 Quattro 3.0 then it all changed when Top Gear had the 2007 Audi RS6 on the show… I was smitten.
So I bought a B6 S4 Avant… and that got written off, which then led me to find a 2007 S6 in 2013 for $20k Canadian and that’s how I ended up. Luckily for us Canadians I can import any car when it’s 15 yrs old… so counting down the days for when I can import a 2007 RS6 Avant. 2022 won’t come soon enough.
its interesting for sure - I was into bikes both road and racing for years, so had crap cars to use all my $$ on two wheels. I decided in my mid 20s a decent car was due, down our way the “dream” cars are V8 fords and holdens (aussie Chev) but they were rubbish in my mind. Push rod crap with plastic taxi interiors.
I drove a Ronin style S8 loved it but she was a bit old man ish with wood grain etc - so tried a B6 S4, that was it -Audi was the way forward. It was a tough choice to let my S4 go, sold to a very good friend to fund the bigger car requirement due family growing. We had all the variants here but price is the killer for us, a new Audi B6 S4 was 150k, I bought mine 6 years old for 25k - the 6s are worse, new RS6 runs you over 200k…means you have to wait a long time for a military working man ( thats me ) to afford one… C6 S6s were mid 20s low 30s last year when I grabbed mine. RS6s were 45-60k currently…just out of reach for me.
What I find interesting is what we use our Audis for, mines a daily, and I mean tow the boat, the trailer of firewood, fill it with family and gear and go. Rain hail or shine it goes everywhere. I love launching the boat ( in the lake ) with it…people drive in with their trucks, I back the S6 in so the mufflers are bubbling to get the boat off…Quattro all the way BABY.
I was concerned I would hate the std Auto box in the S6, but I really gel with it, paddles for showing off other wise cruising in D works brilliantly. Would I take a RS6 yep, in a heart beat - 600/700hp would round off the C6 package but 50k on a 10 year old audi is still to much for me…
Ps the avants look ok on the RS6, but the S6 aint as tidy, sedan in s6 is the beauti pic
That’s awesome! People would look at us crazy if we towed a boat with a S6 here in the US lol. But man to have the choice between S6 and RS6…

Its only a wee boat but yep practicality is the key - yep rs6…
thats about 28USD…

Wow, what a beast! Decent miles too, but I agree $28K for a ‘08 is a little steep. Maybe $22-25K depending on some factors.

Yeah exactly - and thats one of the cheapest around for us, most are around 35-37k USD - or the rule of thumb is double the cost of a S6… interestly there are about 4 times as many RS6’s for sale. The S6 is quite a bit rarer here.
Back on topic Id say price and parts/repair price is the reason S6 owners (or higher end Audis) are older - parts are 3-4times more here. When my inlet mannifold let go the NZ price for the part was $10,000. I nearly died…actual heart stopped. Half what I paid for the car…
So getting on here, learning from you guys, makes it all worth it.

10k??? :o :o :o
can you just get an imported one from the US or elsewhere? only like $2k USD. even if you had to pay $100+ for shipping you’d be way ahead.

Yeah thats exactly what I ended up doing - JHM to the rescue, got the manny and inlet spacers etc from them. Tried the whole globe, asian, Uk but USA was the winner by a mile.

I need to see this hitch! Would be great for towing my jet ski.
I am 54, been enjoying the V10 experience every day since i purchased my 2008 S6 almost 3 years ago. It seemed to be a sensible purchase, comfortable enough for the family, all weather driveability, and thanks to JHM, could be nicely modified, because 435HP just wasn’t good enough. At almost 130k, i’m hoping i can make it a few more years at least. I just don’t see anything out there now i would be willing to give it up for.
