Only problem I see with opticoat is it still will not get into the area that are the hardest to clean. You are limited to applying that by hand so the small creases still will not get the coating IMO.
I’d just invest in a good power washer. Makes washing rims so much easier, especially the hard to get areas. I can’t imagine you’d spend much extra time washing them.
If you take the wheels apart and take them to a high end detailer in 3 separate pieces. I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be able to get them perfect.
^ that’s a ton of work to wash your wheels. It doesn’t take more than a few days for them to get dirty. He’ll spend more on keeping his rims clean than payments for his car.
Yeah, to do the OptiCoat when the wheels are brand new. Then the dirt and water just bead off when you wash them. Seems like a good investment when you’re spending $5000+ on a set of wheels. You only have to do it once and it lasts pretty much forever.
Oh ok gotcha, that definitely makes sense then. The OptiCoat sounds pretty cool. I’ll probably look into that when I get some expensive wheels. I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $800 on a set of wheels for my car so I’ve never really had a reason for something like this. The power washer has been perfect for me, especially with a cleaning/degreasing agent.
This is my first real expensive set, so I want to do all I can to baby them in the spring-summer months… gonna get some nice snows to go on the OEMs for late fall-winter.
Any tips would be great, as I am book marking a lot of this advice. I think the best thing I can do will be disassemble the wheels the first winter and apply a protectant whilst deep cleaning.
You’re definitely making a good call and I will most likely do the same when I get mine. The final additions to my invoice at JHM are gonna hurt so I probably won’t order them until spring time. I’ll stick with my RS4 reps for winter rims. I think I got my current set for $650 shipped and they came with a lifetime quality guarantee lol. Not bad IMO. Not sure what they weigh though.

Nice setup. Can’t wait to get back and start meeting all of the locals back there. We used to meet up at the Castle Rock outlets when I had my Evo X. Maybe we could start up something similar? Its basically the midway between CoS and Denver.
