Put some winters on the Boxster for Tahoe runs and other trips to Yosemite, Sierras, Oregon, Nevada. 215 width front, 235 width rear, on 18x8 BBS SR all around. Summers are 20x10 rear on 285 width, for comparison. The tire is Pirelli Scottozero 3.
It snows in Germany, right? Rear engine RWD is actually a good snow car. If you try to leave coastal California, there’s mountains on all sides. Caltrans puts up chain control stops and won’t let you continue on the highway unless you have them. In this situation, you don’t want to buy the cheap ones at the gas station. The good ones go on easily. Yes, they go on the drive wheels only.
Wouldnt winters suffice alone? We are talking apples to oranges with quattro but I certainly dont see many audi quattros with snows and chains. And ya, all highways in mountains are straight line. C’mon now
No lock to lock turns on a highway. You move the wheel maybe 15 degrees off center in chain control passes. It’s usually a 3 mile to 9 mile stretch where the elevation goes to 8000 feet and it’s constantly snowing.
