Which torque and motor mount?

First of all, let me ask you guys this.
I feel a thump on and off throttle and also when I’m shifting, no matter how slowly let out the clutch I feel a thump as well.
Is this motor or torque mount related? could the clutch thump be related to the actual clutch/PP or clutch fluid?

I just order the powerflex bushing for the rear diff and 034 tranny mount which will be installed on Friday.
I’m wondering if the thump that I’ve described is due to either the torque or the motor mount so I’m thinking of replacing those as well.
Even though I don’t daily drive the car, I drive it quite often. 90% stop and go city driving. I don’t want my passengers to notice the extra vibration or noise. I guess some amount of vibration/noise is unavoidable but I would like to stay away from that.
I don’t track it or plan on tracking the car. Considering this, which torque and motor mount would you guys recommend for me?

I see that JHM has the updated OEM motor mount for $245 each which seems very expensive. How is it improved over the original stock mount? Is it worth it?

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks in advance.

Is your car an S4 or an RS4? Year?

I thought the thump related to shifting was actually the rear diff mount. Mine was recently doing this and when I checked my mount, all 3 bolts were loose. I tightened them up and the noise disappeared.

2007 RS4

Then, as an RS4, you will have a torque mount as one of the possible contributors
to the problems which you describe, the others being engine mounts, differential mounts, transmission mounts, etc. The more info you can give us about your car (mileage, mods, etc.), the more help we can be.

completely stock. 46k miles.

My advice would be to get your car on a lift and try to determine which of the mounts (or whatever else) that might be causing the problem.

just ended up ordering the 034 torque and motor mounts. Can’t wait to feel the difference.

Hope those solve your problems. If not, please let us know.

i’m gonna to the trans, diff, and torque mounts only and hold off on the motor mounts for now unless they are leaking or unless it’s better to do the motor and torque mounts at the same time.

by the way does the front end have to come off to do the torque mount?

Thanks.

Yes it does and based on what I just read, it might actually be the torque mount that’s causing your issues. Sounds like you’d get codes if the motor mounts were in need of replacing.

I thought this was the case as well but when I replaced my motor mounts, I found one was broken into 3 pieces and I didn’t have a code lol

Yes motor mounts are one of the inspection parts. They can be in bad shape and never throw a code.

what’s the typical labor rate for torque mount and motor mount each?
a reputable shop near me quoted 6 hours for the motor mount and 1 hour for the torque mount but the place where I ordered the mounts said, 1 hour for the motor mount and 2 hour for the torque mount. I’m gonna call a few more shops on Monday to get more quotes.

Sounds like the 6 hour rate is just a shop looking at a labor rate quote sheet. It shouldn’t take that long.

My experience with the S4 was they were about the same. Motor mounts you only need to remove the sway bar and lower motor mount brackets. I was done in about 2 hours first time around doing it on my garage floor with barely any tools.

The snub mount required putting the car in the service position and I was done with that in about 2.5 hours first time around.

Is it much different for the RS4?
