Who's ready for some Football?

Last year was brutal huh. At least it wasn’t followed by a blistering hot n humid summer. Been pretty darn mild this year

Last year was definitely brutal - even with the league’s second best offense. I really do like our chances this year. I’m predicting 13-3.

And bring on the hot and humid summer - there’s still time!

Man it is a flag fest in the preseason. I played defense in high school and holy crap the NFL is penalizing defenses left and right.

By the way, Johnny has been hit by Kerrigan and Ryan Clark.

Ya its ridiculous how much the rules are tailored to make the game higher scoring to appease casual viewers and the masses under guise of “safety”. Sure, don’t let defenders light up a defenseless receiver but limit that to leading with helmet. There is no worry of going over middle anymore. This emphasis on contact after 5 yards is a joke. Now not only do receivers have free reign over middle, they now get free release off the line. C’mon man!

Not at all a fan of this trend in the last 10 years or so.

Went to the Florida Gators season opener. Row 56, 40 yard line – best seats I’ve ever had. Sun is setting, sky is clear, and it is time for football baby!

1/2 hour before the game, they detected a lightening strike within 8 miles. Delay.

They put the doppler radar counting lightening strikes up on the big screen. One hour later, the 10 minute count for lightening strikes was nearly 300. My son and I bailed on the stadium and went to the O’Connell Center (the Gators domed basketball stadium). Just in time. All Holy Hell broke loose.

3 hours after the scheduled start time, the kickoff happenned. Gators ran the return 60 yards. Crowd is going ape shit. 10 seconds ran off the clock. Then before they can run the first play from scrimmage… more lightening. They clear the field. 14:50 remaining in the 1st quarter.

One hour later… the game was cancelled.

So I spent 3 hours in the car (Gainesville is 90 minutes away), 3 hours in the O’Dome (severe weather shelter), 2 hours at Florida Field (football stadium) watching doppler radar, and 1 hour around town before the game.

9 fucking hours, for 10 seconds of football. (Don’t get me started on food, gas, tickets, parking, etc.)

(On the upside, my son was a trooper, and contained his disappointment well. We enjoyed each other’s company and made the best out of a craptastic situation.)

Oh man that sucks. At least you made it out safely.

Yep, things could always be worse. If we ever do a baseball thread, I’ll share my experience with the tornado that evacuated Wrigley Field.

Football? 40 yard line ?

I guess you meant to say American football. Yaaaaawwwwwwn

Best damn three months of the year. American collegiate football.
