Winter Beaters

  1. Software engineers like west west are even easier to pick out of a lineup.

Their high pay in today’s high demand market inflates their egos and instantly makes them smarter than you because their check writer pumps up their ego to keep them from moving to the next company.

The rare triple post!

Auditude does that all the time. Not even quoting different posts… Just posting… Then posting… Then posting.

It reminds me of someone talking to themselves. Or like Costanza with the "THAT’S what I should have said! "

#7 regarding students, very very true and obvious

I bought a 1999 Grand Cherokee limited with the 4.7 today. 132k on it, 1 owner, and I got it for $1800 because the brake booster was hissing and other little dumb stuff.

Solid pickup for cheep! Someone in the GTA should get one then we’d have a tow vehicle for Cayuga

buy my jeep, I need a truck

This was my spring project for a daily driver/ winter beater. 99 A4 1.8TQ with 95k. I have about $2500 invested into it, 1k of that being a complete parts car. It feels like its stuck in mud at all times but it’s a nice driving little car and I can swap my original S4 wheels and winters. Didn’t really plan the paint job until the last second. I’ve always loved Glut orange… and matte black. Love it or hate it I’m happy with the way it came out.

Here are my DD’s/winter beaters…

1998 VW Jetta TDI 5-speed… Car has almost 215K and is pretty much in mint condition…

2006 Audi A4 2.0T Auto… Car has almost 95K miles and is pretty beat… LOL

JHM is getting into the 2.0T game in a pretty big way right now. I suggested they buy a non s-line with beige interior and base wheels, and then DESTROY all the B7 A4 records with it. It would drive the A4 forum nuts. Big monster truck and little 17s. That car would be PERFECT!

Awesome! I’m a sucker for Jetta IIIs.

My first -new- car was a 1996 VW Jetta GLX VR6. Black with black leather and a 5MT. Back then, 160lb-ft was a big deal in a little car.

I put Neuspeed springs and custom shocks on the car, and it was like a go-cart.

Wasn’t much of a winter car, though… FWD with lots of low-end torque makes for tons of wheel spin.

I didn’t know jack about winter tires back then, either. The car came with 205/50 R15 high performance tires that turned the car into Fred Flintstone’s chariot when the temperature dropped below freezing. That first Chicago winter was rough.

Datadum, Thanks man! It was my mothers car that she purchased new in 1998 and they drove all over the country since my dad wouldn’t fly… They lived in the outer banks, NC and drove it to Vegas once a year, Colorado, and up to Ohio a few times a year to visit my brothers and I… My mom and dad moved back here in 2011 but she didn’t drive it much in the winter, thus the nice condition… I got it from her before she passed away last Sept. It’s not great in the snow especially the snowbelt where I live thus the A4 gets driven more when it’s bad weather… I take the bus into downtown Cleveland for work and the park-n-ride is about 5 miles from my house so I don’t have far to go…

It is actually a fun car to drive given it being a 5-speed and the massive tq from the diesel ;D LOL The redline is like 4500RPM and I’m usually in 5th gear by like 35-40…

Also, been thinking about this… took it for a few drives… Just not sure I went to spend the money on it and have it sit outside as I don’t have the garage space… Would also slow my plans for getting a R8… Sure is a nice vehicle though…

That would be hilarious! Jake’s car should do great though.

All his updates should be posted around 3 AM too.

I guess he’s on “JHM time” which usually means I get email replies in the wee hours of East Coast time or when I’m going to work
