WOW...DSG problems poll on AZ

will be interesting to see how this shakes out, but so far after 100 votes the numbers are pretty terrible.

B8.5 (2013+) S4/S5; Problems 1 - 1.00%

So 16% of DSG owners have had a problem? That’s surprisingly high.

Further, if we just look at the guys with over 20,000 miles, it’s actually 29%.

For any manufacturer, I don’t care who it is, those rates should be unacceptable and show there is a wider issue at play here.

Audi will only be able to hide behind TD1 on chipped cars as well for so long. The thing is I don’t get why more people aren’t filing complaints with the NHTSA. That and some media coverage is essentially what cause VW to do a full scale recall and warranty extension on the FWD 6 Speed DSG’s.

Also I will say when the transmission decides to go into limp mode, the car can be driven yes but it is extremely frightening to say the least. Beyond 2-3000 RPM it slips into neutral while it waits for the revs to drop to shift into the next gear. A great way to potentially get rear ended in traffic.

It should be noted that ‘problem’ can be anything from a full on trans failure/replacement to getting fault codes that are sorted out some other easier way

That doesn’t inspire confidence. I haven’t had any issues with mine, but then again I’ve only logged 15,500 miles on the car.

Never had an issue on my B8 S4. Tracked and had just over 15k miles when I traded it in.

No issues here, knock on wood… lol 2010 with 7,8xx miles…

My dads 2010 had 370 launches lol…

Not one problem with that car…

Goof 7800 miles lol.

No issues here 38,000 hard miles.

I’m at 57k, I do have a few low speed hard shifts when the trans is cold. But I wouldn’t call that a failure, more of an old age issue.

Mine has almost 23k on the clock and has acted the same since birth (a few abrupt shifts every now and then).

Has me wondering whether I should sell the car or take it back to Germany with me. If it fails over there it would probably be a nightmare.

Seems that running the piss out of these cars does them some good (ref Jones’ and Auditude’s experience).

I owned two B8s and now a B8.5 and have never had a DSG issue… Sports diff issues, that’s a different story lol

What were the issues?

didn’t you have a B7 S4 Avant?

Yes he did, Mike kinda gets around

No I had a B7 S4 Cab

On both my B8’s they had to be completely replaced. Last one took almost 6 weeks to get from Germany and have installed. I got bored with my q5 loaner at the 4 week mark and bought a b8.5 S4 instead lol.

Pretty small sample size to determine anything definitive about actual failure rates of the DSG.

Had a issue with my S4 last week.
On the dash it said “Gearbox malfunction, you can continue driving”. No indication of anything being wrong, gears selected like normal, no slipping etc…

Took it in, they took logs and replaced both pc boards in the gearbox. Car was in yesterday.
They replaced filters, gaskets, oil, drive train stabiliser bolts + the 2 PC Boards.
So far no issues.

really? 100 people had voted back when i started this thread. Not sure what it is now but that’s pretty compelling data. It’s not like three guys answered.

100 on an internet forum where people with problems are more likely to post and vote than people without problems.

Still a very small and non-diverese sample size to even come close to determining a real failure rate.
