I agree 100% with this sentiment. If the issue is bad/common enough to issue a bulletin about it they should cover it without issue especially if the issue is presenting itself under the conditions of the TSB.
Only thing that will get things going is people complaining to the NHTSA at this point. That’s how the MKV DSG’s got the 10 year warranty.
Drob, i did my research, but just paraphrased it incorrectly. Here you go:
TSB Group 35 13 15 20304777/6 November 4,2013. Effects models. S4, S5 2010-2013 All vin Ranges with S-Tronic 7 speed transmission
also RS5,S6 ans S7 All vin ranges for model year 2013 S-Tronic 7 speed Transmission
condition-
the following message appears in the information display: “gearbox malfunction: you can continue driving”.
one or more of the following fault entries are stored in the TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, J217:
DTC P17D8 torque limitation because of clutch temperature, with symptom code 8040
DTC P0726 RPM signal of engine control unit, implausible signal, with syptom code 7980
DTC174B valve 4 in the sub gear box…
ok, I’m tired of writing these but there are 10 friggin DTC for this error.
technical background- poor internal contact area on circuit board will lead to faults. Oil additives can cause the plastic circuit plates to delaminate.
production solution: improved circuit board for MECHATRONICS unit.
notice the model years- Since Audi is aware of this from 2010-2013- if effects B8 and B8.5.
my personal guess is that it may take a little time to rear up it’s ugly head. notice the various models of vehicles as well, not just the B8

condition:
rough gear changes, both when accelerating and when slowing down
there is a rough driving power disruption that occurs sporadicallyand lasts for less than a second
technical background:
after mechatronics, torque converter, or complete gearbox replacement, the clutches must be adapted to the new component. This requires a gradual move of the clutch linings toward the optimal operating points in the most diverse load conditions. As a result, sporadic driver power disruptions lasting for less than a second or reduced shift comfort are possible over the first 500 miles. this is normal and these issues will decrease over time.
This issues can also occur if the adaption values of the gearbox were deleted.

gearbox warning light is on. The following fault is logged in the gearbox control unit: P174B-valve 4 in the sub-gearbox 1, electric complaint.
or
P174F valve 4 in the sub gearbox2, electric complaint
technical background:
the entry occurs mainly up to an ATF temperature at 30 degrees celcuis. check this in the extended environmental conditions of the diagnosis protocol. the early entry only occurs once and cannot be reproduced. after the reset there are no more complaints.
production solution: not applicable.
service:
update SVM software version management of TCM J217 using SVM action code as listed in the table below- no, I’m not putting them down.
Also, some of the TSB info wants the tech to evaluate the trans fluid and if it has that “light brown” color… then most likely damage has happened-and the TSB gives book time and part numbers of what hard parts to replace.
I dug this up on mitchell 05 ondemand
I’d say it’s known by Audi audi, not just forum members. I’ve read on this thread that perhaps driving style could be a factor. I’d say just driving it is a factor enough. Audi can’t point the finger at anything, but any software revision that could cause audi to avoid covering this costly repair could result from such modifications, reflash, etc. I chose a 6MT, and have my own set of issues, so nothing is perfect with transmission options I guess.
I didn’t find this under any VW models, but I didn’t spend much time looking either.
Hope this is slightly informative.
Jason-
Feeling the need to jump in on this and apologies if this particular issues has already been mentioned. Car is an 11 B8.
I have some hard down shifts occasionally when coming to a complete stop. Doesn’t matter if the car is in Auto or Manual mode (I usually drive in Manual - I just enjoy it more). When in Manual mode (Dynamic) if I haven’t down shifted on my own, it’s pretty jerky - sort of just slaps itself into gear. That problem (if it is one really) is not really annoying.
This next one however, is VERY annoying, and I have to mention that I do not remember it happening “before” my APR flash. In manual (Dynamic), in 2nd, I can take the car to redline (about 7K I guess it is) shift up to 3rd, still hard on the throttle - and them BAM, the car shifts almost immediately into 4th at about 5K or so. So fucking annoying >:(. Interestingly, if I slow down a bit and down shift back into 3rd, the car will run all the way to redline as it did in 2nd.
I should also mention that in these same settings, the 1st to 2nd shift does not exhibit this issue.
Thanks. Yeah I see the info on that run but don’t see a vid. Maybe I missed it. In any case, if the car is short shifting like that and he still managed to run a 12.2 with Stg 1 on 93, my feeling is the car is doing fine.

pump? maybe not positive… I didn’t run pump stage I, lol… 1fastscam and I both went 12.06 stage I, on race gas, me GT260 him MS109…
No, I believe Fonz and that he was on pump… I meant I’m not sure if anyone ran better on pump stage I… The vendorzine tracking doesn’t have all the times from everyone, heck I have 250+ passes myself… It does show well_armed or not_armed as running 12.20 stage I on pump…
Interesting discovery yesterday. I was under the impression that everything would have been reflashed the last time I had the mechatronics replaced… low and behold it wasn’t.
I was pulling out of my office complex and decided to launch the car. Car revved to 4500, I let go and it of course had the delay that was normally associated with the LC. I get to my destination and decide to check the cruise control stalk for program switching and it is there. So have been driving around for just over a year thinking I was on stock programming of course I can’t remember what program I left it in so I put it in 93 and drove it.
I am noticing 1-2 is somewhat rough although its always been like that since getting the new mech. unit. Sometimes its completely smooth, sometimes it drives like absolute crap.
I’m confused since the first time I had it replaced they reflashed everything and the software was gone. Also my vag coding was gone both times. Call me confused…
