That will be cool to see. Audi wants you to replace them on the S4 transmission they didn’t make any updates I believe jhm might have tho.
mec: justincredible:There is a better chance that the synchro is bad then damage to a gear. The trans would go in gear eaiser if the gear was damaged or ground down. Could be the shaft is bent or the collor is damaged. Those are hardend gears they can take lots of abuse. So far this looks great. The synchro is ment to take abuse and damage before breaking anything else.
I’ll get some comparison pics of 4th and 3rd gear syncrhos, third is all mashed up, and it was barely any abuse. I wonder if audi makes upgraded synchros…

I asked jake, he said they only make them for the 01e
Synchros for other transmissions are still in development unfortunately.
Maybe my 1-2 synchro has seen better days then. Sometimes, the car just flat out denies a shift into 2nd at high rpm and load.

Let me guess…vast clutch?
Drake’s stage 4, but close enough. If it goes boom, I’ll buy one from JHM. Speaking of which, Jake, has anything been done to the flywheels to allow the use of ARP bolts w/o modification? I remember Eric needing to take his to the machine shop.

The flywheel design hasn’t been changed, but I run OEM bolts and they work just fine
I’ve already got ARP flywheel bolts, so I’m gonna use them. Also thinking about grabbing that trans rebuild kit in the AZ classifieds.

I had the same thought…not sure if I want to buy all that though. Both my trannys are basically new. Both under 100k.
They were made for OEM Bolts, but you can drill the holes out a hair to use APR bolts if you wanted too!
That rebuild kit is not complete, I forget what he was missing off the top of my head.

5th and 6th gear synchros

Why worry about ARP flywheel bolts? Just use stockers and avoid possible headaches. That is the last part your little girlie A4s will break. I kid

Sad but true. I know everyone wants the “best” for their cars, but sometimes the “best” really doesn’t make a difference. We have never used ARP flywheel bolts and our High powered cars work just fine.

Haaaa you dick
Well I can’t say anything about the flywheel bolts but the pressure plate bolts should fed be arp. I’ve had stockers back out twice and they even had loctite on them.
I used arp’s with red loctite this time. Those things are never coming back out

I don’t know if you reused the stockers but if you reuse the stock ones they will be more likely to back out. they are technically one time use bolts.

No I never reuse tty bolts. But arp’s are cut different to help prevent backing out
Tranny update! Haven’t had time to work out the DIY but here is how she looks

Removed that pesky ball bearing, small circlip behind it, pull the input shaft out, and now I just need to go buy the final tool. A shop press, probably from harbor freight.

Interesting thing I noticed…there is a reverse synchro. Always figured it was just forward gears that have synchros
