Irony strikes again, it is you who is implying occupation = character. My point is that if you do that then you have preconceptions that are not grounded in reality i.e. a bigot
Sunoco GT260 which is available at several local stations near me and what I run full time on the 100 tune… Performs very well and the car has gone 11.72 on this fuel and the 100 tune in very good conditions… It’s priced much better($6.99 currently) since it’s available at the pump. I have run it on the 104 tune just for testing, you get a decent amount of timing pull and the tune performed no better which is probably because of the timing retard…
MS109 which you have to buy in the drum or pail… Personally, my car never ran that well on this fuel and I don’t like it. I get timing pull and honestly don’t think it performs better than GT260… I’ve talked to many domestic guys at the track and most of them don’t like it either and prefer other brands…
Gulf Mach 116 which you have to buy in the drum or pail… The jury is still out and I’ll know more this weekend weather permitting as Lordoftherings and I plan on hitting Thompson and I pretty much ran the car down and will only have this in… Last time I ran with it I did OK but I had a mix of it and Sunoco GT260…
Shell URT which isn’t avaialble any longer, which is a shame as I liked this the best and it performed the best… I ran the 11.69 on this and anytime I ran it my timing pull was zero or very very little… I’d buy this all day for the strip if I could get it… Plus it was orange and smelled really good! LOL
IMO the 104 tune with proper fuel is probably .1 better in the 1/4 mile than the 100 tune on GT260 or something similar… Just my .02
Like I said before I got a can of 260 GT plus but now I just need to figure out the easiest way to get it out of the can and into my car. And I somehow need to drive 150-170 miles as well to get the 93 out.
LOL! First world problems… I usually pour half the pail into a 5 gallon plastic can and have a funnel to put it in the car, it’s a PITA thus why I run pump GT260… lol Curious to see how the GT260+ does…
I will figure something out but I am trying to avoid taking a gas can to the track. Also I believe GIAC’s race map is tuned for 104 hence the reason I went for the the plus. Otherwise I would have gone to the pump for the GT260 same as you.
I’ve got 5 gallons of 104 Octane. No matter how low I burn the tank down there will always be 1-2 gallons left in the tank. How much will that impede the performance of the 104 Octane? Thanks.
I’m not sure on what your saying. You can obviously run the tank down further then 1 or 2 gallons. But what I think your saying is you don’t ever let the car get below that point. I think. If your mixing 91 with 104 then the levels of octane will change if your mixing fuels. If you have 10 gal of 104 or 2 gal of 104 in the tank that part won’t effect anything. The amount in the tank won’t matter the amount you might have mixed in will.
That makes no sense. How would your car always have 1-2 gallons left in it? The only way it does if you don’t drive it far enough. You drive your car until the the gas distance reads 0, at that point you have roughly 20 miles of gas left. So drive around for 15-20 miles then put your 104 in.
I found it most effective to run the tank at least 10-15 miles past 0 on the DIS, then add the race fuel, and then put another 10-15 miles on the car before fulling switching. When I do that, I seem to get the full effect of the race fuel.
I think CountVon pointed this out, but unless the fuel is mixed out of the car, it doesn’t really fully mix. If you leave 2 gallons of 91 in, the first 40 miles or so will be a mix of mostly 91, and a little 104. The key really is to get the tank as empty as possible, and by all accounts that is around 20 miles past 0 on DIS at a minimum.
Maybe one of those myths that the fuel pump only draws fuel from the top of the tank, and the bottom always has gas left in it. . Maybe somehow related to the myth that when you run the tank out, you kill your fuel pump/filter/car because the fuel pump 'sucks in all the sediment and bad stuff from the bottom of the tank (people who think this don’t understand gravity)
If you run your car down to empty, you can get about 62.5 liters in the tank…and the capacity is about 64 liters. So there is never 8 liters left when you run it down.
