I love these kids of projectrs your really geetting deep into it. All of it makes sence to me except What is the point of the ECU change.

my 2000 Audi A6 C5 4.2L V8 is equipped with the ME7.1 system. That means if I want to tune I need either a EPROM chip or it can be flashed. But in order to flash the ME7.1 system it needs to be benched and ground out the pin. It not horrible but my time consuming and is limited for tuning capabilities. The ME7.1.1 system is a pretty easy swap. Get the 2002-2004 Audi A6 4.2L ECU and all you have to do is switch about 10 pins on your 2000 or 200, pop the new ecu in and your running ME7.1.1. With ME7.1.1 the tuning capabilities are a lot better and there is no needing to remove ECU and bench in order to tune. With the ME7.1.1 I can now flash a tune via ODBII port.

RS6s aren’t that expensive and probably after your done you could have just went and bought one…I sometimes get confused when people go through a ton of trouble to make a car into something they could just go buy. I mean if it was a car your grandpa willed you that you wanted to keep in the family I’d understand, but it is probably not.

Not trying to bash man, just want to understand your reasoning.

no feelings hurt man…I guess I just like to get my hands dirty and learn all I can. Im also very attached to this car. It was a gift from my father after my Audi A6 3.0 threw a rod and blew to pieces. And I really am not spending a whole lot of money. I got the complete S6 heads for $500 shipped, rs6 cluster for $200, injectors for free, TB for free, S8 Intake for 200, first alacantra set for $300, Second set for $375, A8L Rims for $300, e brake cover for $30, rs6 complete shifter with knob for $100, coil spacers for like $30 from dealer, ext. ext.

Either way Im really attached to this car and love it. So Im not really worried about spending so much that I could have just bought a $18,000 RS6. My dad paid 5000 for the car. I have not put 13,000 into it. And it only has 78,XXX on the clock now.

Fun project! Will it be DIY tuning or are you getting someone else to do it? Beemercer would be the man to talk to. Will you get a TCU tune as well?

I have a tuner and Im slowly learning it from him. Its crazy though. Reading it in a HEX editor looks ike the MATRIX and is mega confusing for me, but so easy to him lol.

And yes I will be running a Sport Mode TCU that will be tuned…

Im currently testing TIP files on my stock TCU and its pretty amazing. Can really tweak it.

Also going to try a launch assist for an automatic…like a 2 step…will need to add a clutch switch and whatnot to fake ecu. But thats down the road
