2008 Audi S6 Beef-up

I recently purchased a 2008 Audi S6 with 130k miles on it. The body and interior is very clean and it was a well kept car. The car came with the normal troubles that everyone complains about, misfires and an oil leak on the passenger side which I have to figure out where that is coming from. If anyone has an idea I’m open to listing and looking into. I am currently in the process of getting the manifold off to see what lies beneath. I removed the coils and what a shock 08/08 they read. So they are the original coils that came with the car. Once I get through updating and cleaning the front end I’m going to install all LW Rotors, JHM Tune, JHM Cat-back Exhaust and a new fuel filter because who knows when that was replaced if ever. I attached a few pictures of some high quality parts connections that I found. A zip tie and electrical tape connecting a fluid pipe.

On order waiting arrival.

  1. New Coils
  2. New Spark plugs
  3. LW Pulley
  4. JHM Intake Spacers
  5. New Alternator Belt
  6. SAI Block Off
  7. KN&N Air Filters

Hi and welcome! I’d look into new injectors too (or a cleaning at the least). If everything is original, then there’s no doubt it’s not going to be running very pristine.

I was going to remove them and decide to get new ones or have these ones cleaned. Thanks for the advise.

That’s a strong list. It might not be a bad idea to put valve cover gaskets on that list. But once you get the intake off you should be able to tell a lot more.

If your doing the initinal work on the car I would pull the front end off. If you want to get a better idea on where the leak is on the one side your going to want that front end off. to be able to really look at the motor better.

Also to back up what GRS6 said. I would strongly suggest looking into injectors

I pulled off the front end of the car including the radiator. I have on order 10 new injectors.

Check oil cooler. It’s on passenger side. Mine was leaking badly and others have as well

This is what mine looked like at 125K

Getting to the Oil Cooler and removing it is a PITA.
The lower rear bolt is a bitch, but you can get it out with the engine in the car.

Two orings, causing the mess…

What in all did you remove? I currently have the from end off. That’s about where the oil is coming from. What did parts did you need? Thanks

I removed the belt to replace all the pulleys, idlers and the alternator. The alternator is water cooled, so you have to disconnect two hoses, their easy to disconnect, a bit harder to reinstall. There’s a center bolt on hose connection assembly, I removed this to take the alternator out. I think I reinstalled the mount, then attached the hoses after installing the alternator. It’s a tight space to manuver!

The alternator removal and install is straight forward.

Did you replace the oil cooler or just the two o rings?

Just the o-rings

You want to replace the O rings even if they look good. But before you put the new ones in soak them in oil for a bit.

Also its a good time to check the cooler. You can flush the cooler out and inspect the oil and the coolant. After you did that hook up longer coolant hoses and do a low pressure test on the cooler on the coolant side. It will let you know if there are any cracks.

Where would the oil pool up on you guys with the cooler gasket issues? Supposedly these were fixed prior to me buying the car.

Havent been under car with it in the air, but from the ground I see had a trail oil on the underside of that coolant pipe pictured. I also seem to get a bit on the crossmember. After car warms up and is driven I smell burnt oil but it doesnt smell like its hitting exhaust and fully burning if that makes any sense… no smoke etc. Smell seems to increase on a harder drive.

Car had a horrible leak uptop that dripped down the valley to the front, those leaks have I believe been taken care of, will verify sometime this week.

Welcome feel free to start your own thread or create a new thread for you and your car.

As to your question when you can smell it generally you see that in the form of the valve cover gasket as they tend to drop down onto the manifold. but I say generally as there are many possible factors.

With so many possible sorces its something that you generally want to do a full inspection with the core support off and really get your eye on everything.

The intake is off and the inside actually looks really good with everything operating as it should. There is a lot of carbon buildup which is in the process of being cleaned. Someone is the past must have attempted this because I found a bolt with a stripped head that I had to drill out and use pliers to get the rest out. Does anyone have any ideas how I could clean everything before I but the car back together? I’d like to clean the block and get all the oil and grease off. I know taking a hose is out of the question. I’m trying to upload some pictures, but the server won’t allow me to.

Here is the link for pix.

Load them there. Check size and you can’t name them crazy stuff. If you have issues loading the pictures check the name or the size… Also that is your picture folder. So save the link. All of the pictures you load will go there.

As for cleaning the block. Simple green is your best friend.

Get some pix up so we can see all of whats going on

I was checking the oil Cooler and didn’t see oil leaking. I looked down under the block and saw some fresh oil coming from the front bolts where the oil pan is. Does anyone think it could be leaking from there?

That is a real possibility. The oil pan is hit or miss. Most of them leak. Just make sure to check the path from the oil filter housing to make sure there isn’t oil coming down the valley and down the front of the motor.

I wanted to provide an update with the car. Currently I have the carbon clean completed. I put new valve cover gaskets on, new oil filter housing o rings, new fuel injectors, new fuel filter, new coils, new spark plugs, new serpentine belt, LW pulley and intake spacers. I have the JHM cat-back exhaust I just have to install it. I have on order the LW rotors. I have the JHM tune, but haven’t installed it yet. I am still trying to figure out how to get pictures uploaded to the site, once I do I will upload them.
