2014 B8.5 S4's...

Well if you get your car tuned and complain that you don’t think it’s performing the way it should but are unwilling to determine that for sure and in turn run some logs to at least see what may be the problem you probably shouldn’t tune the car… Should the expectation be that others need to do that for you as some form of entitlement? Heck I’ve probably done more than just about any 2014 owner has to try and figure this out and I don’t own one… I agree the tuners need to be accountable but you need to participate in the process and work with them which Arin is trying to do from what I’ve read. Just so you know I’ve had problems with multiple APR tunes on the B8 over the years but worked with APR via email, phone calls, sharing logs, testing files, etc to get results that have met my expectations… Has it benefited me? Sure but it’s benefited others as well…

As for your comment on vendorzine I hope you’re not serious?

Great you are doing a service for the community and I appreciate that but I don’t expect everyone who buys a tune from APR/GIAC to log their cars if and when they suspect its not working as advertised. If they don’t want to or can’t do that I don’t think its them feeling entitled either. I suspect this is a hobby of yours so even though you don’t have a 2014 you enjoy doing this, correct?

Yes Arin has been around and GIAC has been non-existent but even with Arin being around his answers don’t always make sense and he picks and chooses what he responds to. So even though he is there he isn’t being completely forthright.

And yes as far as audizine goes I see a lot of posts complaining about the users and content over there so if audizine didn’t exist this place would have less to talk (bitch?) about.

You really need to focus. Let me help you out. You said this:

That is why you were questioned. Nobody gives a fuck what customers should do. We are not complaining that they are not solving the issue (although if they come out and bitch, then get offers for help and refuse those offers, fuck them they’re dummies who don’t want help, they just want to have someone stroke their back while they cry and say ‘it’ll be ok’.

We are addressing the folly in your post. You’ve said that audizine has merit and that ‘they’ are trying to solve the problem.

Who exactly?

You keep defending audizine for some reason with these emotional reactive statements, but no facts. Sure people here make fun of audizoo. We also make fun of Russian dash cam dummies and talk about skiing in August. So fucking what? You’re still not answering the question

WHO is THEY and how are they ‘trying to find a solution’???

Hey Ron,

Wondering have you posted any figures with Timing vs RPM for any of the “properly” running B8/B8.5’s? I’m not sure I really buy Arin’s figure with skywagon’s timing as being “normal”. As B8_Jim showed the other day in the AZ thread, the stock tune requested quite a bit more timing through the entire pull. Do you happen to have figures for the 93 or 100 file? I’m just curious how the trace looks when everything is working properly and you’re setting those record times ;D Everyone is throwing around absolute max numbers, but it seems there should be a gradual build-up, since I understand the knock timing retard to usually take affect at low(er) RPM.

For the record, here’s Skywagons timing vs RPM re-posted:

d.p, I guess will have to agree to disagree, not a big deal… Yes, you are correct I enjoy reviewing data and helping others as well as understanding the car better…

I need to email Arin on something else so I’ll tell him what I’ve seen with the 5-6 2014 logs I’ve seen… As for GIAC they should at least make a statement or show a presence but that’s not my call…

As for vendorzine I can only speak for myself and I just hate to see people misled from others and some of the nonsense that goes on there… The management cracks down on people who try to help others since it pisses the vendors off and too me that is what these forums are about helping one another… But in the case of that site it’s about getting as many clicks and views as possible so Anthony can maximize his income often at the expense of people like you and I… If you don’t like that we talk/bitch about that over here and think it happens too much I’m not sure what to say… I would never discourage someone from being a member here but maybe this place isn’t right for you? I hope not as I’d like to see more folks come over here, but we do have our own system to weed out problems so it’s more like a community not a vendor run forum… Please feel free to reply but I’ll no longer address vendorzine in this post as that’s not what the post was intended for and I don’t want to give you/others that impression…

And to follow up with my above post. You stated that his IAT’s were really low, did you happen to see if he was getting timing pull from knock detection? Seems strange since I thought he was running race gas and low IAT’s should be preventing the onset of knock I would guess.

Some where on Audizine I saw a post from Arin stating if you have a problem with a tune to bring the car to Alabama to the APR headquarters. Is there anyone out there able to do it?

You’re pretty close, no? Seems like a good opportunity to get your car sorted. Hell, maybe they could even make the tune work better with the headers.

I can’t imagine that was Arin’s only suggestion. They do have plenty of authorized dealers nationwide. That said, some people have made the trip to Opelika for various reasons. Several years ago, a guy from Canada drove down there just for a tune.

I would definitely stop by if I’m ever in the area just to see the facility - I’ve heard it’s pretty impressive.

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time at my dealers. APR is about eight hours from me. If they are willing to pay expenses I’ll do it. I’ve dumped a couple of thousand into this problem already!

Dealers are just proxies, and while they might be nice guys, are pretty much useless when it comes to fixing the tune, since they can’t turn any knobs.

Considering how much you’ve already spent on your car, in terms of $ and time, I find it pretty surprising that you wouldn’t go out there and let them tinker with the tune on-site. Imo demanding they make it all expenses paid is out of line, they will be giving you enough by proving the engineering support to diagnose and fix your tune. It won’t be arin’s time, it will be an actual calibration engineer (no offense to arin).

Not to mention you’d be doing the whole community a big service. I doubt anyone else will take their 2014 out there, and I’d wager apr won’t fix their 2014 tune until 2014 giac or revo cars are getting close to the records.

And to further clarify my point (since I can’t edit the post lol), I think dealers are great for “fixing the car”, but they can’t fix the tune. So if they log and it appears there’s an issue with boost leak, they can help figure out that problem. But your low timing problem is something a shop can’t fix since the only thing they can do is just re-flash the tune.

I just sent Arin an e-mail reminding him of his invitation to problem people like me. I’ll see what he writes. I have a Revo dealer one hour from my house. ECU, DSG tunes and switching are being worked on in the UK for my particular car. B8.5s each need a particular program. Revo said they’d help out some financially. I’m not holding my breath!

Maybe he doesn’t want to get a rap on the mouth?

Can’t say I wouldn’t enjoy being a fly on the wall listening to Arin arguing with skywagon in person. “Arin, have you ever been Mach 2…”

Now gentlemen, this old fart is doing his best. Arin says come on down. I asked if he could tune my car and also if my going to see them would expedite or complete the DSG tune and switching for the 8.5s?

No worries man, happy to be here.

How far are you from APR? Assuming old fart so you are retired? Not like you have anything better to do!

Well, have exchanged several e-mails with Arin. The DSG tune and switching still have no release date and the only way I could help there would be to leave my car there for an extended period of time. My engine? They could possibly tune it if there is nothing wrong with it. I’ve been told exactly that, tune is good. So 16 hours in the car, over a thousand miles and three days on the and two nights in a motel just to be told I’m good simply doesn’t appeal to me.

Hmm well I guess Arin was probably being facetious with the offer. If he has seen those logs and is convinced the timing it’s correct than you’re probably right. … waste of time to go out there. I still wonder what the timing looks like on a healthy 3.0T.
