3.0 Dp development

ok guys. After we have looked over what the car has Dp wise. I think its best we look to make a set of cheap DP’s.

My idea is to not go with a large shop. This 3.0 thing should be more of a grass roots venture. labree or any of the other top names want too much money. I want to all collectively work together to make sure we get a great cheap option for Dp’s. Lets all chime in on our location and we can try to get one of our cars to someone to get this started.

Or OMFG I just thought of this. Lout Jnr you just got your headers. Do you want to sell us your stock DP’s? If we can get those that will help us get this program going and we might not need anyone’s car.

Lets put the line out there for a set of Stock DP’s for the 3.0

The idea of making 3.0 Dp’s sounds easy till you realize that we need to have flanges made (to mate up to the stock manifold) then we need to have 02 bungs put in and from there get the angles down.

what are your guys thoughts. I seriously think this is going to be one of the first steps for us. The tune will then not have to pull itself back to protect the motor from back up heat that flows back from the cat.

Count - yeah sure definitely willing to sell the DP’s…I’m all about getting this platform off the ground

Great I think we need to make sure to do lots of home work on the Dp’s before we just throw stuff at the car.

Your not local to the US though are you. Shipping is going to be expensive?

That would be awesome if we could get the pipes from Lout… As I said in another post, I might have a line on a jig for 3.0 DP’s, should I try to get ahold of it?

Would there be any issues with us modifing the jig you speak of. Not trying to speak badly but know from experience that alot of jigs even built by professonals most times need to be rebuilt or modified slightly Count can agree with me on this point.

I wouldnt care. A guy on AZ made on awhile ago but never used it due to lack of interest. Just thought it might make things easier, do whatever you want with it lol.

Its always good to ask.

My take is this, the guy is going to want money for the jig. In most cases your better off just making on on our own. If the guy is giving it away for free and we just have to pay shipping then thats fine.

Lout Jnr contacted me and were looking into shipping options right now. If all works out. Ill have him send the Dp’s and the gaskets so we can make flanges.

Coolio. I’ll see what he says. Ultimately I’d like to run mine with at least a generic cat, was in a car with just a test pipe today, and I’m not a big fan of running catless for daily driving.

sound wise if we build a cat back system. You can make it so you won’t know the difference. So cat or no cat it wont be an issue. We can try to do a FYI thing to help people remove and take just out there precats.

If it is a issue of sound it’s not even an issue to worry about. The RS4 with the APR SC and full JHM exhaust, not annoying at all radio on you won’t hear it so on the 3.0 it wouldn’t even be an issue.

Me personally windows down throw out the radio and let me hear the car.

lol right on… just don’t want to be driving an angry bumblebee :stuck_out_tongue:

Well thats not good cause here’s what I’m thinkin!!!

Watch out she’s a runner.

If I had to drive that car… I’d walk instead.

So I managed to pull one of my Dp’s out and what a PITA.

First observation is that I have 2 cats one just after the exhaust manifold and one just after the flex pipe. Now I know we have all been saying that the 3.0 have only one cat, why is it that I have 2? Could it be because I live in Australia, I always figured that the states would have tougher emission controls than we do.

Second observation removing it was really a PITA, now I was removing one and I had the cylinder head off, my suggestions would be when removing the Dp’s is to make sure that you have your car sitting fairly high on jack stands or a hoist becuase you will be taking them out like a screw fitting, becuase you need to get the pre-cat past the engine mount.

I have a couple of questions, the Next DP to remove is still completely attached. What is the best way to remove the O2 sensor (22mm for anyone wanting to know) with the cylinder head in the way, and also the best way to undo the pre-cat from the exhaust manifold with the cylinder head in the way. It is not exactly very roomy in the engine bay

^With the S4’s typically you break the bolts on the manifold loose from under the car, and then pull the downpipes out with the O2 sensor still installed. You may be able to get the sensor out from the top with the O2 sensor crow’s foot or socket.

If I remember properly the 3.0 A4 has 4 cats. Do we have any pictures of a stock exhaust system? I’m skeptical that the A4 would only have a Pre cat as that would make that the only car in the Audi line

Sorry I did mean 4 cats, 2 per Dp

yes this has been throwing me off too, b6joes4 said that theres just one big cat per side, but every other audi uses 2 per side. If it does in fact have 2 cats, this will make doing the DP’s alot easier as we can just mirror the b6/b7 S4’s piggie’s as the first stage in exhaust upgrading. Picture would be ideal.

I confirmed what Joe had originally said.

I don’t know if LoutJr’s DP’s are different being that he is in Australia, but I got under my car and confirmed that we only have one set of cats directly after the exhaust manifold. Look in the other threads and see my pictures

I will grab some pics tonight when I get home form work. I went back and had another look at your pics and your right there isnt a second cat on the Dp’s.

Can anyone else please have a quick peek under their car and confirm if they have a second cat or not, it is just after the flex pipe

I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I think Aus gets euro spec cars
