Awesome news. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
any news on how this is going?
Count, I don’t know where I think I saw you say something about headers, but was just curious when/if this comes to be for the A4 how much of the S4 design could be applied. Obviously a different plate & collector, but would not majority of the design in the runners apply the same to the A4. I guess you could probably do a new design that would be easier to produce since more space is available and maybe improve some parts due to this. But it just seems with all the work that went into the S4 headers, the A4 headers should be pretty simple to produce based on what you already have. If so you could realistically have some prototypes without much downtime.
On that same note, does the A4 motor have to be pulled to install headers? I’m going to guess yes, but just curious if anyone knew.
The motor would need to be pulled to get the headers on the 3.0. If you look at the 3.0 exhaust manifold its actually not bad. The 4.2 manifold has to share a runner with little space in the exhaust manifold. The 3.0 isn’t running into this issue. So while I think headers would help I don’t think there going to do as much as they have on the 4.2.
I am excited to see the 3.0 Dp’s tho. that If you ask me. Is going to be a MUST have.
Mine is a 02 3.0 6speed with the AVK motor and I think the transmission is the 01E.
I have 2 cats on my 02, which if I remember correctly the dealer told me mine was a late model 02.
I thought I remember reading we can use headers off the 2.8??
and if you have to pull the motor for headers I imagine thats going to be expensive as hell, is it even worth it?
dumb question prob, but what are the benifits of DP’s, what is it that makes them a must have?
Also i listened to some YOUTUBE videos of 3.0’s with straight pipes and I have to say they sound like shit on our cars to me anyways its just noise, theres no clean euro tones which i personally want to have no sure how everyone else feels.
Like Justin said, headers are a bit questionable at this point, and probably won’t be looked into in the immediate future. The main priority right now is DP’s. They would be larger than the stock pipe, which would free up exhaust flow. Most importantly they would remove the cat. The cat is a HUGE power robber in our cars, guess it’s a bit different in the 2002’s with both precat and cat, still great to get rid of both of them. Which youtube videos were you looking at? Simply put its a 3 liter v6, with the right exhaust it will sound amazing… if it sounds like crap then it was a crappy setup.
Wondering if we could get an update on this?
X2
UPDATE:
SO the video and DIY for the Dp pull is almost done. I say maybe I Can edit everything for the end of this week and start a new post.
The new Dp’s are done. Just need to get flanges made and source the best flex joints. Fitment looks good at this point. Once I get a little more closer to having all this done Ill get more information.
I have test fitted all this on my car. I just need to see If I can get another local guy or send something out to JHM
What did you need possibly sent out?
If it’s something not crucial to the car I can send you something from my car, but if not there’s an A6 sitting at a parts yard with a 3.0 that I could possibly nab a part from. It currently has the front end off as well as the pass. side cyl. heads.
I am not far from JHM, I am in Reno and would happily drive to JHM which is only few hrs from me I think.
Are you just wanting another car to test the DP’s on? or what do ya need? I’m down to help with anything I can!
So I didnt want to start up a new thread so sparkin up this one again.
So my question is : I’m going to be going the custom route (I’m giving it a go) Now I would like to get it done asap but from what you guys are telling me is that if I get it done now, I would have to get it fixed or readjusted once I get the down pipes. The question is why? I understand they are going to be different diamiters but wouldnt a system from lets say magnaflow that is 2.5 still have a 2.5 inlet? It wouldnt scale down to match the stock dps would it?
I have some exhuast components sitting in my room and I’m ready for a new sound so I couldnt help from asking Lol
The adjustments would just be from where they connect.
Right I know that, how much adjustment would really be needed? Just the angle they attach?
No I mean sizes. The Stock Dps are like just over 2" and if you have a catback with 2.5 then your going to have a step down. After the JHM Dp’s depending on how they make them your going to have to mate the 2.5 to the 2.5.
Get some clips of the sound Im really wanting to get the exhaust just don’t know where to go
Exactly what I was looking for… Thats what I figured, but no way just have the inlet to the exhuast be 2.5 and mate it to the stock 2" dps?
Does anyone know how close the DP’s are to being finished?
we test fitted a set on my car and I even drove for a few hours. (sorry guys its the perks of being close) I don’t know how much of this is to be shared but I know they put the prints together the other day. Now its to the point where they just have to pull the pipes. I think we should start to see something by the end of next month. Don’t quote me on that as Im not making them (obviouisly) and This is only my thoughts on what I gathered form the conversation I was having
Good stuff… I’m sure we will be informed as soon as they are ready, just gotta be patient
Curious though. I know with the S4’s the difference between dp’s + catback VS piggies + catback is pretty minimal in terms of performance. Will this translate to our cars as well, or is our stock DP more restrictive than theirs?
MILES more restrictive. We got kicked in the can on the Dp’s. I felt the car really wake up with the new Dp’s when I got to test them. Its kinda disipointing to have to go back to stock but its still exciting knowing there is lots more to come
