42 Draft Design O2 spaser

Hello Everybody.
I have catalytic efficiency below threshold error on my 2002 3.0 A4 Avant.
I was wondering if anybody had luck in resolving similar errors with o2 sensor spacers similar to 42 draft design?
looking for inexpensive way to get rid of CEL light in order to pass new emission test in Toronto,ON.
any help would be highly appreciated.

Why are you getting the error.

i don’t know why ??? audi claims that both converters must be replaced.
to me, as long as exhaust doesn’t smell they are ok ::slight_smile:

Probably a bad cat or something… But both?

Spacers may help. I would find out what’s up though.

Did you just buy it? Maybe someone had the pre cats punched out or something. If not and indeed your cats are shot, I would want to deal with it rather than drive around with shifty exhaust flow.

I would go to autos can and ask. Probably the pre cats and he will gut them for you and you can then put spacers on.

The code means you’re getting numbers outside of the range specified by the ecu. The o2 spacers may not help if you have a couple of clogged cats… Wouldn’t the spacer exacerbate the situation putting you even farther outside the range?

thanks a lot for advice…
I bought this car back in 2009. Never had serious issues with it.
the problems started coming up recently. " autos can" where can i find them?

Autoscan in mississauga

Also in California there is an extended warranty on emissions parts on cars for ten years. Not a warranty but manufacturers I believe are forced to fix problems like this. Wonder if anything exists in Ontario like that?

Also can you post the exact code? If you don’t have a vagcom one of us can scan it for you. May get you a little more info than going to a generic obdii scanner or going to autozone or Napa for a free scan etc.
Then we can see if it might even be a bad o2 sensor or something.

It would help if we had the actual codes.
If Your planning on keeping the car or plan on only buying Audi’s or VW’s
Get Yourself a VAG-COM/ VCDS diagnostic cable.
This is the best one to get.
http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html
You can use it do do more then just read the CEL codes.
If that one is too much then use someones to log the codes to post here.
Or get a generic VCDS/VAG-COM cable.
Just ask and I’ll send You a link for one.

Saki is right about the CATS going bad. You do not want to cover up a real problem.

Call these guys and see if their downpipes/CATS for the 3.0L’s are ready yet.

Or if You live in california go to Labree Motorsports and have them set You up with inexpensive high flow CATS.
http://labreemotorsports.com/products_vw.html
They do not come polished unless You ask and pay for it.
I have the Labree high flow CATS and the first set lasted a year and my 02 sensors went bad and I was showing the CEL codes again. The second set to replace the first set threw codes as soon as they were on the car. Thats how I found out 3 of the 4 02 sensors were bad. So I replaced them.
Now it shows the rear 02’s are saying that the difference between the two sensors are not enough meaning the CATS are not doing their job and need replacing but there brand new.
Audi’s and VW’s have a small tolerance when it comes to emissions.
Brand new CATS from Audi are $899. each at my dealership. 3.0L’s need 2.

If You have any more questions ask. We’ll try to help.

Its not a time but a milage warranty in the US.
Its 80k miles regardless of the owner.
If the car has more then 80k miles Your SOL!

It’s 8 years or 80k miles, whichever comes first.

I know for a fact that VW have a 10 year emissions equipment warranty. I’m in Ontario as well.

We had a 2000 Jetta bought in 2008 from Leavens VW. Come etest time in 2009, the car needed new cats. We took the car to Leavens fully expecting to pay as we bought the car from them with no warranty.

I was well impressed when they looked into that emissions warranty and we just snuck in by a few days, with all the work and parts for free.

I suspect Audi has something similar, get the dealership to run the VIN.

PS lots of Toronto members here. Maybe drive to meet one of them with a case of beer as payment and get it scanned that way. Or go to one of the home depot meets.

Like I said I did the same. I went to the dealer and was told the warranty was 80k regardless of the owner.

He lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. And he has an 2002 and my watch says it is 2013…so that’s that lol.

Oops I fail at reading and maths. 2002 doesn’t feel like 11y ago

Deff dont do the spacers jhm has a performance file that will cure tue cel but you need to remove the cats as they are the bigger issue

Dru From JHM told me that down pipes are not ready for production yet.
I contact LaBree Motorsports and they should get back to me tomorrow.
If this is the case i would put the set of high flow cats and run JHM tune.
Right now i have GIAC chip loaded to ECU & TCU.

I am new to this forum and not sure when and where you guys meet up in GTA.
I would appreciated if you can keep me updated.

If anybody wants to meet up tonight let me know,
It would be my pleasure to meet you guys in person.

that wopuid be the best way to go. You should see quite a bit of gain from going from GIAC To JHM

The problem is that everything needs to be done before April(
Can’t wait to resolve the above issue.

whats aprial all about. why the need

I have to renew my sticker…it means going through e-test
