'90 Coupe quattro build thread

you should take it to a detailer and just hand them the keys. While you’re walking out yell ‘GOOD LUCK!’

p.s. this is really fucking weird looking. What was going on in that backseat…pigroast?

lol, I don’t mind cleaning it up, its relaxing now that the weather warming up.

and honestly, the black shit on the leather, no fucking clue what is.

If I had to guess I’d say grease that got wedged in between the bottom and back of the cushion and got ground into the leather. Its stained in in some spots, but others its a build up that I can peel off with my fingernail. I was looking into deep cleaning leather and some people recommended steaming with diluted meguairs all purpose cleaner. So I may give that a shot. Really though I’d like to get the S2 Recaros at some point so if it doesnt come out oh well.

I’m also gonna see what weird concoctions my mom uses to clean horse grime out of her saddles, shes had the same saddle for 30yrs and it looks brand new whenever she cleans it up.

use the green all purpose cleaner. the orange one will pull the color right off the seat.

comp lowering head gasket, arp head studs, intercooler, k26/27 hybrid, vems, 7a cams, 400 whp all day

good to know, gonna order some up soon

sounds like a plan, and I already have the 7a cams!

finally got around to washing the car, lots of crusty dirt in the seams so it took a few hours, looks better now. turns out the front grill surround was blacked out with vinyl tape, I pulled it off and now I’m trying to decide if I want to leave it chrome, try to brsuh it like I did my S4 rings, black it out or maybe go gunmetal with it.

brushed on my S4, always liked the look:

and madison’s car for reference on how to do gunmetal. always liked dark grey vs. blacked out, but with the car being white black could work

also back seats were finished cleaning and reinstalled, need to paint some of the scuffed up interior trim pieces before putting the front seats back in. also need to pick up some hardware assortments, missing lots of screws/bolts.

That is the first pic I have seen of your S4. It was a nice looking car.

Although I think chrome rings would look good on the Coupe with Pearle white, the brushed or gunmetal would look great too. So yeah, Im pretty much undecided.

thanks, just to clarify the picture of the whole car is mbgt72’s s4… my s4 is below

regarding the grill, I’ll post some pictures later to illustrate how, but I don’t know if there is enough of the chrome plating left on the plastic to do the brushed look. so my hand may be forced into paint. i’m gonna try the brushed since if nothing else it’s basically the prep work for painting over the chrome.

another thought I had was to cut out the horizontal slats and replace it with some 3d extruded mesh I got from germany for the a6. i don’t see this happening though since its a lot of work and I don’t know if itd look rigt.

Loved me some 17in black ones

new picture, car cleaned up, front plate bracket removed and black tape stripped off the grill trim. I like how the chrome looks so it’ll stay for a while.

probably gonna get some factory match paint to paint under the headlights soon.

Got any recent pics?

whoops, forgot to put this in my last post

havent got much done, was incapacitated by the fever last week and now I have some poison ivy all over the backs of my hands/forearms so its gonna be slow moving for a while. need to order fabric to wrap the headliner so i can put the interior back together

Lookin good!

been battling the poison ivy around my property recently so havent done much with the cq besides paint the trim bits under the headlights primer white.

gonna do the same with the bumpers soon

got a good chunk of the interior plastic trim painted satin black. The PO had painted it poorly and it was flaking. Gonna try to hammer out the headliner tomorrow and get the interior back in the car.

finished up the headliner today

Headliner came out great!
Is that just microsuede laid over the top of the old headliner? Also what adhesive did you go with ?

yeah black mircosuede.

I pulled the old fabric off and stripped off the nasty orange foam adhesive they used underneath.

glued up the new fabric with a mix of loctite high strength, 3M super 77 and 3M hi-strength 90 iirc.

all the material was left over from my A6

Turned out very nice. Thats a seriou combination of stuff to glue the new fabric down.

putting this up for sale, $3,000.

got into shooting over the summer and just really have no interest in modding cars anymore.

beemercer@gmail.com if anyone is interested or knows anyone who’s interested. car is not drivable at the moment, but it should be easy to load it up on a trailer in my driveway
