After 12 years here's where the B5 S4 sits

I do have a new car, and while leaving the tuner scene for a while was the original plan it was clear I was fooling myself thinking I could drive a “normal car” for any extended period of time so I picked up a new “toy” that I am building, and actually the car will be going under the knife probably towards the end of next week.

The plan is to have the car ready for H2O, we’ll see how that goes.

I bet he is building a single. He wants to be like me. Lol

No one wants to be a thief.

and I don’t own an Audi anymore.

NVR 996T?

328isT? (E36)

saw a photo…car looked new. Good luck and keep us posted. Who was your buddy with the E30T…how is that maniacal machine doing?

Thanks, car is decent… it’s the last year of the E36 (1999), and fairly clean (nothing that I cannot change to bring it up to my standards) and drives very well. This car though will not be like my S4 (daily/race car in one). It will only be my fun car so I won’t be as conservative with it.

As for the E30 turbo vert. that’s my best friend… we’re swapping a 24V into it currently, should be done soon as well.

how much is another engine for this thing?

how sturdy are the engines as far as holding boost? Is there a build involved etc.? Or was it pretty stout?

p.s. after 12 years here’s where the B5 S4 sits…in a discussion about turbocharged BMWs lol

If you like 12 year old boosted audis it’s tough not to like old boosted bmw’s.
One of my buddies has a turbo e36 tuned by mike radowski@ maximum psi, a good guy to talk to if you have any quesitons nvr… the thing just rips. He got the car for pennies too.

Yeah they are ridiculous it seems. The race videos of them online look like the film is sped up.

Yup spoken with Mike a few times, actually my buddies turbo came from Max PSI (BB P6262).

That said, the motors are quite stout and the heads flow well. I myself should be able to hit 450-500whp on my 2.8L, only thing I’m doing to it is installing a headspacer to lower CR and ARP studs.

As for my buddy with the E30, he’s sticking with a stock 2.5L for now with just ARP head studs and I will limit boost to around 10 psi approx (10.5:1 CR) until he builds the motor over the winter (3L)

single turbo + inline 6 = exciting possibilities. Great setup for making power.

Absolutely… We’ll see how long I can deal with the lack of AWD making that much power though.

Did some test fitting of the new wheels 18x9.5… should be able to put 255’s out back without much issue (just roll the lip on the rear) so hopefully that will help.

Sorry to hear bout ur troubles with ur S but thats a sweet car NVR if there was any other car i could choose besides my B5 it would be an E36 no doubt i love the body styling. Good luck with it and keep us posted

Will be listing the all around best setup, cost, low end, mid, top end, street, road course and 1/4 mile. Honestly there’s only 1 turbo setup that will win just about every thing I just listed above except fake dyno charts and skewed 3rd gear pulls and so on.

I’ve owned or been involved in or apart of just about every setup for the B5 & there’s only one setup that does all things extremely well while still maintain the refinement of the S4. The car could of easily been sold this way from Audi. Until you actually drive one you won’t understand exactly what I’m speaking of.

If you take what all the other turbos do good and most of them are only good in 1 area over a very short rpm range & put them into any 1 setup you will have the turbos I’m listing as the all time best performer hands down.

To hell with all the dyno charts, 3rd gear down hill pulls, false 60-130 times & so on & why…

Food for thought, something most people never look at & really should because that’s all that matters. Even on all those high hp cars & the false controlled data there’s still something know one mentions. On all those 650-700+whp dyno runs every now & again they forget to delete the average power the cars making on the sheet/run “most are well under 375whp while still using their controlled data, while this very same averages is easily equaled or easily surpassed by nearly all K series based turbos that make 200+whp less and same goes for TQ” That’s why no matter how much power they claim to make their cars aren’t really going much faster then some of your K series based turbos “actually in most cases their slower”

If you take any setup that does only 1 thing very very well or even the best (like run in the mid-top) it will lose to another setup that does just 2 things pretty good “not great” or 3 things decent like low, mid & top. Doing 1 thing great is impossible to over come any car that does 3 things good!

Did you mention in your post what turbo setup you thought was best? Do I need to sign up for some newsletter…?

I will be updating the main page soon. Also I didn’t just make my decision based on data or price, I completely tore the turbochargers apart (friend had a set) viewed all parts being used, measured clearances & so on. Basically fully dissected the units.

Callinuout- not sure if you saw this but here is a turbo review that I did a while back, let me know what u think.
