I’ve been trying to pick through that thread on AZ but it has become pretty hopeless. For every 1 good post, there’s a full page of arguing. hah oh well.

I think there are about. 8-10 3.0 guys. Not to bad for a start. I’m thinking the more 1.8T drama that keep popping up and the excitement over here the more that number will grow.

For those of you guys who are interested let me know. I have a cracked version of Vag-com. I have to order a new cable then crack it to work with whatever cable I order. Feel free to post and let me know if you guys would like it. If there are alot of guys interested Ill get a common cable and then set the Vag-com to work off that class of cable.
I’ve found The Vag-com very very useful over the years.

I honestly wouldn’t be bringing up cracked software and such on here though.
I feel if people need to use VAG-COM they should buy it, borrow it, or have someone else do it for them.
I’m a computer tech and won’t sit here and say I don’t have/use any cracked programs or such but it’s usually against most forum rules to post stuff like that. Not sure if it’s a rule here or not but if not, it should be.

Actually, the cracked VagCom software is pretty commonly accepted on all the Audi forums. The “cracked” version doesn’t allow “Full Access” to everything the legit vagcom cable can do (I believe it’s mainly due to the cable itself as the RossTech cable is more advanced), so there is still an advantage to paying, but for 99% of people, they’ll never need more then the cracked version can provide.
Even JHM and I think ECS sell the “cracked” version cables on their websites. I bought mine on ebay back in the day, worked like a charm, then bought the legit one b/c I thought I needed it for some special coding (turns out I didn’t doh!) and just gave the cheap version to a friend.
But typically (at least for my cable) it was designed to only work with 1 or 2 versions of the software updates. This meant I couldn’t use the “latest” version of the software, but this really doesn’t matter. I bought it on ebay, and it came with an install CD that had version 6.07 or something, and at the time there was only 1 newer version. Now their up to 9 I think, but it really doesn’t effect 99% of people using it as I said. For reading and clearing codes etc, even the oldest versions of vagcom (within reason, like version 3 which is probably 6+ yrs old) will work for anything you need to do.
I agree with both sides and maddog is right. Still I think I have a solid option.
Here is my take and a suggestion. Lots of the A4 guys are really going to benefit from the vag-com due to how old the cars are and the upgrades going on.
I have a version that Ross tech had available (FOR FREE) for members to try. Due to the fact that ross tech released this and its not a full version, yet its enough for 99% of what the B6 A4 guys are doing. How about we use that? People would still need to get a JHM cable but I think for the few dollars is worth it.
Shawn. Ill send it to you if you agree to not use the cracked version and just help distribute this free version that ross tech used to share. I think its great if members share but yes we don’t want to do anything dishonest here.
I guess I was just looking at it from a legal standpoint.
Wouldn’t want to see someone being liable for distributing cracked/hacked programs as it’s almost always illegal.
Like I said, i’m a computer tech and have cracked/hacked stuff myself but I don’t go offering to distribute it on a open forum.
Better to be safe than sorry and PM people about it I guess.

I got the version from the count. Its close to what you can download now from ross tech. Its free its just a version thats older and has more free stuff.

Ross tech has the “lite” version for free
but, I have a vag cable from them and lost my cd, you can download full version for free as well
on the site. I’ve done it a twice since my pc in the garage and my laptop were linux/windows
machines and well I thought I was 2600, owned my machine try to play with coding lol
Yea I have vcds lite myself… would be nice to have a legit older version though, as it would give you all the data logging options and whatnot
