Aluthman's Intro and Build thread

hopefully you are good to go now then!

Bought a meth kit. Ended up going with a Snow Stage 2 boost cooler. It’s going to be a while before I can do a turbo upgrade, so there was no need for an HFS-4 just yet.

You are gonna fall in love with meth.

Today it was 83F ambient, I do a second gear pull onto the highway through 4th gear. By the end of the pull IAT’s went from 85F to 42*F…I was so shocked with the drop.

What nozzles are you getting?

I’m going to wait and see what comes with the kit before I buy anything. After some reading, I’m going to run a big nozzle post FMIC and a smaller nozzle post TB via USRT spacer. Exact sizes haven’t been determined yet. Planning to do a trunk mounted 2.25 gal. baffled tank with level sensor and solenoid to prevent siphoning. I’m on the hunt right now for a good local source of meth. I’ll run WW fluid with HEET or Boost Juice if I have to, but I would rather mix my own.

Keep it simple is my best advice for the meth. No need to over complicate things or re-invent the wheel.

I use HEET as fuel for my penny stove lol

Ordered the rest of the parts for my meth setup last night. It’s going to be a bastardized mix of Snow, Devil’s Own, and other parts. FYI, you can buy meth tanks from usplastic.com for much cheaper than all the meth companies sell them for. Same tanks too. I paid like $20 before shipping for a 2.5 gal. Tank and cap.

Nice catch

Wow great find on that. Big money savings there.

I wired about half of the meth kit tonight. Hopefully I’ll finish the wiring tomorrow and start on the plumbing on Wednesday or Thursday. I’m stoked to get this done, although I still have to figure out exactly how I’m going to mount my 2.5 gal. tank.

You could get fancy and build a bracket, otherwise that fender compartment holds the tank perfectly

you guys and your lots of room.

Just think the electrical work is the biggest pain. So your almost home.

Car almost left me stranded tonight. Wouldn’t start. Just one big fat click. All electronics work fine. Battery is just over one year old (Optima Yellowtop). Tried to jump it just in case and no dice. Tried to push start it and she fired right up and drove normally on the way home. Parked in the driveway and shut the car off and tried to restart with the same results as before - CLICK! Fuck me, bad starter. Get the hammer: Whack, whack, whack. Try again CLICK! FUCK!

I’m pretty pissed off as I sit here pricing a new starter. Find it on Europa Parts for $149, not bad. Hang on… Lightbulb. I should check the relay. Relays are cheap. Undo the ECU cover bolts. Pull on the cover. Fuck, I have to take the wiper arm off. (Really pissed at this point, beer time) Undo nut, yank yank yank, thwack FUCK! Bloody knuckles, but I got the thing off. Take cover off, pull ECU out of the way, pull out the relay:

BAZINGA! Pretty sure I found my smoking gun! Relay is only $27.82 at dealer, but I can probably find one at Autozone for cheaper. If only I could get my hands on one tonight. Unfortunately, that won’t happen so I get to drive the fiance’s Corolla to work tomorrow :-/

I spoke too soon. I swapped the relay out with another one from under the dash and got the same click. At this point I’m 85% sure it’s the starter. I just ordered a new one overnight from my man Hugh at Europa Parts.

Ohhh sorry. I was trying to log in to let you know its not the relay. You can do what you just did and swap another relay in to check it. Also if its the relay you generally get a code. The B7 starters fail like the B6 starters do. The good news is its easy to change on the 2.0 not so easy on a 4.2

Pulled my first set of logs with meth. It’s still not dialed in, but I’ve got a woody. I gained ~15-20 g/s and saw a drop of 6C before IATs started climbing again. They were still below ambient at 7k rpm. I had timing advance at a max of 12 degrees with zero timing pull. I’m hooked, consider me a meth head. Also, where before the power used to kind of fall off a bit at 4500 rpm or so, now it actually increases all the way to redline.

I bet you would like our k03 tuning with your k04

Probably would. Just don’t want to spend money on tuning atm. My maestro tune has been steadily improving over the last few months.

Just ordered an AC/DC Tig welder. Good things to come!

Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
