AMD S/C... should I?

Guys need some advice here…

I’m really, really holding myself back from doing a compulsive buy… a “deal” has come about to get the AMD .9 s/c with EPL tune (EPL also offered to fine tune my car to 93 since I’m local… free of charge after paying for the pre-existing tune)… another tempting feature is I can have this kit installed and custom tuned and RS4 back in my hands by the end of next week.

Another attractive part about the kit is the future potential of more power with uprgraded parts/tune.

I’ve been telling myself I want to wait until JHM releases their kit first before I make a decision… but the offer I got with savings on install and a custom tune for the price of the off the shelf tune is kind of tempting.

I also told myself I would’nt purchase a kit again unless the manufacturer has hard factual results to back it up.

Of course as I search the web, there is no 1/4 mile times, nor any official test results from AMD/EPL (I think?)

Looking for some honest, straight forward advice here (disregarding any of the drama between Jonathan & APR etc etc)… should I bite? Or continue to wait…

What are the advantages/disadvantages of a top mount roots vs a bumper mounted vortec…

I’m still leaning towards the JHM kit because I would LOVE to do the install this time around… with the AMD charger I’ll be locked in to KMD installing it.

Dont. The same peole that told you don’t do the pes kit have dons there homework again and your going to hear the same again with the AMD kit…chances are real good ur going to get a pm from one of them telling you this forum is full of hate they will probably try to get you to goto another forum where questions go unchallenged…when in fact this site is full of educsted people that know more then the c9moany that wants to put more untested parts on your car.

Here are a few reasons why not.
APR did there investigation on the same blower and realized it wasn’t the best choice

AMD already went to the track with there best biggest kit. …it flopped they never posted the results and are now adding more boost to try and break into the 11s

Rs4per has one of the stage 1 kit non intercooled. Less then 1 momth ofter getting the kit on his car he has to have his motor pulled. He said its because of an oil leak…well there is no oil leak that requires you to pull the motor and two he said it was pre existing and it is in the back of the motor. Bad part abkut that lie is… if that was true when they put in the clutch they would have had full access to every inch of the back of the motor.

Last AMD plays it up like they sold 12 kits when really they have like 3maybe 4 at best out there. Over a full year of talk no results and no real solid data.

Also this Great deal jive is what pes did to try and get you into there much untested product…they are offering a grest deal because infact they dont have a great product… I dont jab at epl but this time you have to… epl and custom tune… come on… you have to see past that one. Its 93 not 107 or something odd. Its called using your car to develop a tune. .

Last looking at some of the amd customers. Amd has blown up more then 3 customers cars some more then once…

I wouldn’t if I was you, over on the zine the guy compared his performance to my car. Then when I told him it was an mp90 kit at the time he wasn’t so amused. I’d hang fire and wait on results, you jumped the gun on the m90 kit and it bit you in the arse. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”

I know I know… I try to follow the threads here about the AMD charger and have kind of skimmed through them because of all of the back n forth… not sure if I missed any important details that should keep me away from them (other than the fact that they have no test results posted).

Maybe I need to go back and read the thread…

Chris, TTS… you guys are right… and that’s the advice I was looking for…

My instinct and my mind is set on JHM, I know they’re the right and best choice… I guess I just needed some closure in my mind on the AMD kit and forget about it for good.

You’re right… well they gave me the impression that the .9 kit is done and tested… off the shelf kit/tune (but with no results of course). Seeing through that all, the offer to custom tune my car to 93 oct would put me in the class of a guinea pig.

Listen to this guy. Someone who actually has spent some of his own money trying to find the right combo.

And you’re right - you need to see something other than a dyno. And I question the logic of anyone boosting an NA engine that has an oil leak. (See RS4per thread.)

“Done and tested” with one or two users who have obeyed AMD to NOT release results is a harbinger of bad news.
If you ran your own business, and had a product that was “done and tested” and wanted to sell more products through word of mouth (the most reliable and cheapest way to sell a product), wouldn’t you want your first buyers to promote the product and show how great it was with fantastic results?

Heck, even the ShamWow Guy would show his product’s results at 3am lol

AMD? Nothing…not a single peep from either themselves or their “preliminary buyers”.

That silence is the equivalent of a very loud shout saying “Our product currently sucks!”.

Who knows if it’ll ever get better down the road, maybe it will; but for now, I’d stay far far away.

In theory their hardware is a winner but everything else around it isn’t so good. Look at tts, my car was fitted with the car road tested and sent to the strip for around 15 runs to prove how solid it was. First trip was on supersprint headers second time was back on milltek and set the current record. I wish the jhm option was there when I ran tts, I reckon tts jhm exhaust and race file your in the tens on street rubber and full weight. Start to get serious and strip weight and run slicks your mid 10’s all day, I’m tempted to buy my old car back strip and go completely balls out on it. Anyway hang fire mate let amd do all the hardwork and produce the facts

TTRS if that guy hasn’t already deleted that information comparing it to your low performing pes m90 results. Can you post them here…I think that would be helpful. …

Also kryptonic why not look into the TTS kit… it has been wildly successfull as both it and the jhm k8t use cfuge blowers. In my experience they are much better for high rpm usage

That tts kit comes into its own from 4.5k onwards its effortless power. Let me go try find his thread, don’t get me wrong he seems like a decent guy. And he took my comments in BUT he posted the video of my car on mp90#fail

They all seem nice.they dont want to see the light. The companys like to pray on people like him and kryptonic. The guys that are big enthusasts ready for more… I heard the amd results were not impressive and it think the pes comoairson will help build the brigge

Its so funny when we are called haters… apr did well we cheered… tts knocked it big we cheered…pes and amd fail we call them out for being dyno queens and now we are haters again

I’m glad KryptoniK made this thread, it is kinda showing AMDs shady side. They are making a bunch of promises to him and claiming that the .9 kit is 100% production and ready to slap on a car although we know specifically from one, if not the only, .9 kit owner out there that his kit is not complete…he still needs tune tweaks…and the motor for his car is currently removed to fix an “oil” issue.

We have still not seen an official release with any performance data…yet here they are trying to pump their product.

Like many others think…silence about some of their testing should be the biggest concern.

And this is the point. Kryptonik has been offered a kit - was it offered as production or beta? Out of interest, for how much?
