AMS Diving Into the Audi Aftermarket - Can't Wait

AMS is the real deal we all know that. We just don’t want to see the great AMS be held back by EPL…anyone can say how great AMS is and that they make great products. We all get that…

the ko4 was a great product the rs6 turbo was a great product. THEY were both proven products… guyess what… EPL sucked at making power and performance on them…EVERYONE loves APR and I think we ALL WANT a AMS to help grow the B8 market…no one wants some china selling turbo guy with some lame idea to be the only choice…

AMS is a hero company with EPL that isn’t…its cause to worry…so we all worry for AMS and wanting to see them do well EPL isn’t the answer. This isn’t the porsche… porsche tuning is well behind the Audi stuff… the Audi stuff is much much harder…

I think the last thing all of us want is for a great company in AMS trying to tell us how good epl is…when infact we all know they are not…maybe the AMS guys can help epl tune better or bring more out if epl is tuning there cars… AMD sure was a huge fail for epl…

Maybe Martin will do the tuning himself or team up with Sean Ivey or someone else that is very good on the tuning front if it can’t be handled in house. I do not know at all about the tuning particularities of an Audi vs the other German and Japanese brands they have worked on in the past. If tuning becomes the only issue, but AMS is able to come out with good hardware upgrades, I would expect that they can come to a tuning solution eventually, even if EPL (as speculated here) isn’t a good partner to link up with.

I don’t want to step on anyones toes here, but there’s a key part to this you’re missing. It’s knowing where things are, how they work together, what to change, why to change it, and what it looks like when things are changed. Getting that information (on all fronts) isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter how good the calibrator is. Without it, you’re not going to do too well. That’s all I’ll say.

I don’t think people have a clue how hard it is to properly tune these cars. The most succesful tuning companies need help all the time (see below).

It’s not just something where you plug a cable to the car, click the button for more power and make sure you don’t click the button to bend rods.

It’s insane, especially when it’s all in binary code and German.

Opelika, AL: On Sunday, March 13th 2011 at Montgomery Motorsports Park APR set a new world record for the fastest 1/4 mile time with an Audi RS4 B7 4.2L at 11.833 seconds confirmed by video and the NHRA certified race track in Montgomery, AL. In addition to this fantastic achievement, APR also reduced the price of the Stage III Supercharger System used to achieve the new world record by $4000 with a new retail price of $14,999.

The new world record was set due to recent revisions in the intercooling system and a new calibration developed by APR’s Engineering Team in conjunction with a calibration engineer on the OEM side of the industry that works withJH Motorsport in California.

Going back to the original topic of this thread, hopefully AMS helps move this platform forward. They have shown consistently good results within the Evo, Porsche, and GTR worlds. If they don’t get anything new going for us, we are no worse off than we currently are. I’m excited just to see another well known group take a stab at this for us.

By ‘this platform’ I assume you’re referring to the S6? They will definitely make waves there. Nothing out there for the S6 so far other than tunes and modestly R&D’d exhausts/intakes. A big turbo kit will turn the S6/7 (and RS6/7) world on it’s ear.

As for the B8 S4 I would predict JHM being the fastest 3.0T before AMS does.

Wow this thread turned south quickly. Seems there is a great deal of negativity surrounding a new entry into the market. That is fine we have been met by adversity in just about every market we have entered.

It seems there are a lot of established camps out there. We are not making anyone jump ship. If you are happy with your tuner please stick with them. We just want to offer some more options and bring our know how into this new platform.

To those saying its easy to tune an EVO and a GT-R… yes, it is “easier” now but not easy. The reason it’s easier is because shops like us pioneered ways to make power. Anyone can follow a recipe. We have been breaking records for over a decade and not to sound cocky but usually its our own record we are breaking.

EPL has been great to us and over the years they have provided a solid product for some of the platforms we have worked with. Why use them and not do it in house? TIME! We cater to many platforms and time is a huge commodity here. If we can work with a good partner that we believe in then you can rest assured we will. We are excited to work along side Tony with our upcoming packages and parts. Our in house tuners combined with Tony’s experience I think can bring something new to the table.

With that being said you won’t find us actively posting for a while. We don’t play the hype game. We make products and packages that work. We prove them and prove them again…then bring them to the public. Drag racing has always been a hobby of ours so we hope to do some great things with this platform.

Eric I think your missing it. No one isn’t a fan of AMS. We all just see disaster for you with EPL. home work is good. EPL hasn’t delivered in the past and has tanked many good projects.

If you think turning south is coming clear about your partener in tuning then egnore all the help and excitment of these wanting for you to see what we have all seen for years. The words are not AMS sucks but EPL has…I suggest you read closer see everyone is saying the same thing… Take your inhouse guts and get time.

If you really want to do something in the Audi market I think the last thing anyone wants to hear is you don’t have time to do this right and tune it yourself…

Nice post. I think the fact that you’re ‘new’ is cool, and if you read between the lines, nobody in this thread doubts your abilities. Even if we do, you will have a chance to prove yourself with measured performance gains…dragstrip etc. Awesome. You are new indeed, so you get the advantage of time and patience till you show what you can do with an Audi.

However, the guys you have teamed up with, from EPL, have had the better part of a decade, and they have failed to deliver. That’s where you’re seeing the concern in the thread.

Since you like the dragstrip, I have to ask…what is your best time with your EPL tuned B5 S4? Whatever it is, please post the timeslip in this thread

APR is already one of the rare companies building a comprehensive approach. They don’t need any help really. I was pointing out that there are only 3-4 companies who have made a go of it.

For perspective on why I’m asking, here’s what JHM makes for the B7 RS4. It’s not 4 things. It’s 14. Nobody is dominating the B8 S4 yet. Just wondering when a company will make EVERYTHING for the B8.

To me, AMS is known for the Alpha packages. I’m sure their first offering (tune, pulley, HE, Exhaust, and intake) will be incorporated into their introductory Alpha(*) package as a starting point to build from. I think the real impact they will have is with their progressive packages which will include additional/upgrade FI and further down the road with fully built motors and trans packages. Time will tell but I can’t see a company with a reputation of making the fastest and quickest cars sticking with the basics (Tune, pulley, Exhaust, etc.)…

Not exactly following where you are going with this Saki. Up to this point, the only proven ways to make power are tuning, intake, exhaust, cooling (in some instances), and pulley. Headers are still questionable at best. The next logical step is stage 3 which still hasn’t been released by anyone, but will arrive soon(ish) with APR. Having a big group like AMS enter the game will help push the other solid companies to step it up too. If AMS never goes beyond the current stage 2 offerings, then I agree that all that could potentially come of this project is a 3rd viable stage 2. Knowing what they have done in the past, I expect that they will start from scratch, progress to where the current offerings are, and then look at the upgrade (sc or turbo) that has the potential to make the next big leap in power gains on the 3.0.

Eric, First off welcome to the forum and thanks for posting! The negativity you refer to is based on your tuning partner and not AMS, so I hope you understand that… EPL may have done good with you guys in the past on other platforms but they haven’t done much in the Audi world especially the B8 world. If you read all of this post you probably also noticed they couldn’t figure out how to tune a RS4 with a TVS blower and the car ran low 12’s and when it was tuned by another company it went lowish 11’s. All tuning change… Their B8 tune is unproven, can you provide any data on it? Logs, timeslips, 60-130’s, etc?

Also, unfortunately you need to keep in mind the Audi aftermarket world is filled with companies who make false claims and don’t support their products with data like you guys normally do… There are also companies who rush products to market with disastrous results like blown motors and such… I’m excited you guys are getting involved but your comment about “time” is disappointing as IMO it takes time to get tuning correctly…

Finally, if you guys have anything by spring let us know… The fastest B8 is right in your area and I’m quite sure he would meet you at the track… I would also drive from Cleveland to Chicago to race which I plan to do anyway…
