advantages of ams packages-
will be able to fully tune a motor (no cookie cutter flash that “works” with abc parts)
for the guys running headers you will actually be able to tune came timing to take advantage of the headers unlike the stage 2 flashes which are meant for a car with intake and exhaust, most of you people dont realize that cam timing can significantly change the ways certain mods react especially with a supercharged car
they already have the apl tune on their car, if they didnt like the way it reacted and didnt trust it do you really think they would put their name behind it?
Primetime: no do i not have a flash, i feel the ones available may be good for the cookie cutter build such as yours, but i plan on playing with headers, test pipes, meth and e85 so i want a real tune. yes i do have baselines for stock power and baselines for 1/4 mile times.
Come spring I will hit the track and hopefully based off my 0-130 time from last week uphill I should be in the 11.3-11.4 range…
Time will tell…
LW wheels, Clutch/FW and LW rotors will be on the car by spring. Spring show n go I will attempt to break my own manual record… Maybe AMS will have something to race be then
It’s simple. Nobody has gone full monty on the b8 S4 yet., Just a few guys making 4-5 skus and a half dozen other companies barely participating. It’s a wide open market waiting for someone to really make some performance parts.
You said the only proven items are tune intake exhaust and cooling…but that’s the point. There’s lots of other parts to make cars faster.
You think primetime is being matched with new guys who buy tune intake exhaust and cooling? nope. They need another half a dozen parts first to match him or rynurz.
Maybe AMS will be that company for the B8? Or JHM? Or maybe APR will come back to the B8 (this is doubtful…not their business model)
Honestly there isn’t much left to be gained in those 3.0Ts at this point, even with the stage III upgrade APR is working on. I believe that is why it is taking so long because there isn’t much to be gained and shit might be breaking…In the end I foresee a few more tenths from stage III; Some better cooling and light weight parts yielding a few tenths in the quarter.
However, if AMS builds this engine and hires a proper tuner things could get interesting !
Welcome Eric! Great to see AMS getting into the Audi world looking forward to your products!
There is not turning south of threads here Everyone is excited about AMS’s decision…EXCEPT for partnering with the failboat EPL sunken ship.
A 2.4 second improvement from 0-130, a lighter flywheel, lightweight rotors front and rear, lightweight wheels and no lift shift…
GIAC worked out a nice flash that works well with the headers, and they will be releasing that as an option.
My last car went 11.8 on stock brakes, decently heavy wheels, a stock flywheel and wasn’t making nearly as much power as my new car does now on the new finalized GIAC flash. On C16 my logs and Pbox numbers were awesome.
keep in mind that you guys are trapping 115-119. So that 0-130 data is irrelevant. You should compare the 0-115 numbers instead.
You will also find that it takes a dogs age to go from 115-130 when you do that, and will see that top end power gains are most exacerbated at the long end. i.e. gains will primarily show up there.
Post up the 0-115 delta. Hell post up the quarter mile run since you did it. Not sure why you’re quoting 130 mph stuff when your pbox has the quarter mile right in it.
Once I get home I’ll check it out again, I happened to have 0-60 and 60-120 saved in my notes on my phone. Gotta look for 0-115 times. Most S4’s on race gas seem to be trapping 117+ at the lowest…
Saxon, LOL… glad AMS, err I mean EPL, will be able to fully tune the motor I doubt APR has the ability to do that… : LOL So you plan to drive to Chicago for a custom tune? You know APR would do that if you drive to AL, heck you can drive to EPL now and they will do it as well… Cam timing… Yeah I bet APR is not aware of that or doesn’t realize what it does… :
Didn’t think you were flashed thanks for the honesty… Yeah, glad it works on my cookie cutter build as you call it… Just so you know my ecu has been to APR I believe 8 times now for tune revisions, and only 2 of those were to fix problems… Funny APR, the cookie cutter tuner, actually tweaked my tune and others based on data from logs, highway runs and dragstrip passes w/o me or anyone going there… Funny how that can work… GIAC is now doing the same with some of their data driven customers and you know what all of us benefit from that but hey you go get your “custom tune”, I’m sure you’ll be faster than everyone… So tell me what parts or unique things have you fabricated for your car? What unique non-cookie cutter things do you think AMS will develop?
Oh glad you have baseline #'s, what did you run? Keep on waiting while I strap on my new blower and go low 11’s… I’m sure EPL/AMS will get you there someday… lol Maybe when that happens look me up as I believe you’re in PA so maybe we can meet and do some runs…
Me too Ron, sucks that it’s closed now for the winter…
Ordered LW wheels, and rotors i’m ordering after the holiday…
Trying to make a decision on Eurocode or JHM clutch. Gonna give both guys a call and see if they can hook me up and i’ll return some records in return since clutches in the B8 world seem to be very feared by the public. lol.
He is basically saying that APR gives everyone a generic tune and doesn’t really consider the impact of additional modificaitons… I think that is what he means? He doesn’t relaize the revisions that have been made to improve APR/GIAC tunes over the years… His perception must be that there is zero flexibility in our ECU and that a custom tune will dial things in much better? Personally, I think he should go with the old Revo tune as that is custom or was, nothing like no requested boost limits and running 40+ timing advance… Wonder how that ends?
