AMS Diving Into the Audi Aftermarket - Can't Wait

Nice post. I think the fact that you’re ‘new’ is cool, and if you read between the lines, nobody in this thread doubts your abilities. Even if we do, you will have a chance to prove yourself with measured performance gains…dragstrip etc. Awesome. You are new indeed, so you get the advantage of time and patience till you show what you can do with an Audi.

However, the guys you have teamed up with, from EPL, have had the better part of a decade, and they have failed to deliver. That’s where you’re seeing the concern in the thread.

Since you like the dragstrip, I have to ask…what is your best time with your EPL tuned B5 S4? Whatever it is, please post the timeslip in this thread

They are already targeting turbo upgrades to the S6 as per previous posts. I am hoping that they eventually go beyond the current hardware upgrades for the B8 by looking at a larger SC or turbo. AMS has made some very very fast cars over and over, usually faster than anyone else for at least the Evo and GTR platforms which I followed pretty closely at one time. I’d be surprised if they don’t come out with some great products for the B8 which will also push the other reputable companies to step it up as well.

Yeah, I wonder what’s left on the table for the 1320 powered cars though?

That’s why I think JHM will have the records to themselves soon. Even without a JHM tune, a full suite of modifications and Jason driving…lights out. I visited JHM on the weekend and I have to say they’re not forgetting the 3ohT

Eric -

Thanks for posting, and definitely keep us informed of your progress going forward. No need to hype anything, but it would be nice to know about release dates, pricing, and most importantly, 1/4 mile times.

As I noted in my Audizine post (before the mod deleted it), there are no crazy sponsor rules here. So please feel free to post away.

Agreed. If they have the same basic mods (intake, exhaust, pulley, tuning) with the stock sc, then it’s unlikely that they will blow away any records by a huge margin or perhaps even beat them by any amount. Given the size of the 3.0 market, I am hopeful that more companies will follow APR’s lead and go the next step by adding a larger sc or experimenting with a turbo charger. Obviously, tuning, fueling, and drivetrain may all prove to further complicate moving this type of initiative forward. I just know that when AMS has focused on other platforms in the past, they have had consistent success. There is a lot more excitement that these guys or entering the market rather than another one of the jokers that has come and gone in short order over on AZ.

You “Broke World Record For Quickest GT-R In The Standing Mile” on my birthday. <3

Wonder…how many companies make more than 1 part for the B8 S4 (I count a pulley/tune as two parts)

APR - tune, pulley, CPS, exhaust, intake
GIAC - tune
AWE - intake, exhaust, pulley, cooling
REVO - tune
MTM, ABT, etc - tune
MRC - tune, pulley
JHM - front rotors, rear rotors, shifter
EuroCode - headers, DTS, shifter, sway, intake
ASP - tune, pulley (anyone find it funny that an asp is a snake?)

If AMS can make a tune, pulley, exhaust, cooling that will put them in rare air making 4 parts.

Yup Quickest not Fastest… Non the less still love their products… ;D

Can you not break the CPS unit into three products?

Eurocode also makes:

  • End links
  • Alu kruez drivetrain stabilizer

APR is already one of the rare companies building a comprehensive approach. They don’t need any help really. I was pointing out that there are only 3-4 companies who have made a go of it.

For perspective on why I’m asking, here’s what JHM makes for the B7 RS4. It’s not 4 things. It’s 14. Nobody is dominating the B8 S4 yet. Just wondering when a company will make EVERYTHING for the B8.

ECU tune
shifter
downpipes
piggies
catback
intake spacers
supercharger (stages 1, 2 and 3)
air to water intercooler
built motor (pistons, rods, sleeved block)
lightweight crank pulley
front rotors
rear rotors
belt conversion kit
oil cooler
intake hose
snub mount
intake manifold arms

To me, AMS is known for the Alpha packages. I’m sure their first offering (tune, pulley, HE, Exhaust, and intake) will be incorporated into their introductory Alpha(*) package as a starting point to build from. I think the real impact they will have is with their progressive packages which will include additional/upgrade FI and further down the road with fully built motors and trans packages. Time will tell but I can’t see a company with a reputation of making the fastest and quickest cars sticking with the basics (Tune, pulley, Exhaust, etc.)…

Not exactly following where you are going with this Saki. Up to this point, the only proven ways to make power are tuning, intake, exhaust, cooling (in some instances), and pulley. Headers are still questionable at best. The next logical step is stage 3 which still hasn’t been released by anyone, but will arrive soon(ish) with APR. Having a big group like AMS enter the game will help push the other solid companies to step it up too. If AMS never goes beyond the current stage 2 offerings, then I agree that all that could potentially come of this project is a 3rd viable stage 2. Knowing what they have done in the past, I expect that they will start from scratch, progress to where the current offerings are, and then look at the upgrade (sc or turbo) that has the potential to make the next big leap in power gains on the 3.0.

Eric, First off welcome to the forum and thanks for posting! The negativity you refer to is based on your tuning partner and not AMS, so I hope you understand that… EPL may have done good with you guys in the past on other platforms but they haven’t done much in the Audi world especially the B8 world. If you read all of this post you probably also noticed they couldn’t figure out how to tune a RS4 with a TVS blower and the car ran low 12’s and when it was tuned by another company it went lowish 11’s. All tuning change… Their B8 tune is unproven, can you provide any data on it? Logs, timeslips, 60-130’s, etc?

Also, unfortunately you need to keep in mind the Audi aftermarket world is filled with companies who make false claims and don’t support their products with data like you guys normally do… There are also companies who rush products to market with disastrous results like blown motors and such… I’m excited you guys are getting involved but your comment about “time” is disappointing as IMO it takes time to get tuning correctly…

Finally, if you guys have anything by spring let us know… The fastest B8 is right in your area and I’m quite sure he would meet you at the track… I would also drive from Cleveland to Chicago to race which I plan to do anyway…

Any insights on product offerings? Again, welcome to the forum!

AMS we all have faith in you!

But please for the love of god don’t partner up with EPL…

advantages of ams packages-
will be able to fully tune a motor (no cookie cutter flash that “works” with abc parts)
for the guys running headers you will actually be able to tune came timing to take advantage of the headers unlike the stage 2 flashes which are meant for a car with intake and exhaust, most of you people dont realize that cam timing can significantly change the ways certain mods react especially with a supercharged car

they already have the apl tune on their car, if they didnt like the way it reacted and didnt trust it do you really think they would put their name behind it?

Primetime: no do i not have a flash, i feel the ones available may be good for the cookie cutter build such as yours, but i plan on playing with headers, test pipes, meth and e85 so i want a real tune. yes i do have baselines for stock power and baselines for 1/4 mile times.

Come spring I will hit the track and hopefully based off my 0-130 time from last week uphill I should be in the 11.3-11.4 range…

Time will tell…

LW wheels, Clutch/FW and LW rotors will be on the car by spring. Spring show n go I will attempt to break my own manual record… Maybe AMS will have something to race be then

It’s simple. Nobody has gone full monty on the b8 S4 yet., Just a few guys making 4-5 skus and a half dozen other companies barely participating. It’s a wide open market waiting for someone to really make some performance parts.

You said the only proven items are tune intake exhaust and cooling…but that’s the point. There’s lots of other parts to make cars faster.

You think primetime is being matched with new guys who buy tune intake exhaust and cooling? nope. They need another half a dozen parts first to match him or rynurz.

Maybe AMS will be that company for the B8? Or JHM? Or maybe APR will come back to the B8 (this is doubtful…not their business model)

You kinda crack me up brother, what is gonna net you 4-5 tenths over you PB? Uphill both ways in the snow perhaps?

Honestly there isn’t much left to be gained in those 3.0Ts at this point, even with the stage III upgrade APR is working on. I believe that is why it is taking so long because there isn’t much to be gained and shit might be breaking…In the end I foresee a few more tenths from stage III; Some better cooling and light weight parts yielding a few tenths in the quarter.

However, if AMS builds this engine and hires a proper tuner things could get interesting !

Welcome Eric! Great to see AMS getting into the Audi world looking forward to your products!

There is not turning south of threads here  Everyone is excited about AMS’s decision…EXCEPT for partnering with the failboat EPL sunken ship.

A 2.4 second improvement from 0-130, a lighter flywheel, lightweight rotors front and rear, lightweight wheels and no lift shift…

GIAC worked out a nice flash that works well with the headers, and they will be releasing that as an option.

My last car went 11.8 on stock brakes, decently heavy wheels, a stock flywheel and wasn’t making nearly as much power as my new car does now on the new finalized GIAC flash. On C16 my logs and Pbox numbers were awesome.
