Good for them but, LOL at this quote… Poor APR and GIAC, they have no chance these guys are specilaists… The ones that farm out their tuning to EPL… LOL

"NOT YOUR TYPICAL GENERIC TUNING SOLUTION
Most tunes available are generic, rebranded, “solutions” that come from one of a few sources. Typically these tunes are developed more by software engineers than seasoned race engine specialists. As an enthusiast why would you settle for the same run of the mill results?

Eric, Please enlighten us to what’s not “generic” about “your” tune? Can you share logs? I can send you fields we’d like to see… Would only take a few minutes…

I still don’t get why EPL is partnered with AMS. If they’re tuning the cars, why aren’t they just selling the tunes on their own? And a pulley upgrade is a pretty simple part to develop / have manufactured. that’s 90% of the B8 upgrade market right there. So if no stg 3 is to be expected, why bother having a partner.

The 12.45 pass is pretty decent by my reading of our database. Assuming pump gas and everything stock but the tune, the only time comparable is Auditude’s 12.41 (REVO). The closest APR run, by contrast is 12.7. Granted, I believe NickS ran that time on the earliest version of APR’s tune. Still, the EPL time is pretty good.

-AMS wants B8 (and other Audi) money and wants to leverage the AMS name to do so
-AMS doesn’t want to bother learning how to tune an Audi (or buying the tens of thousands of dollars of tuning tools)
-AMS brings in EPL for software and encrypted delivery, sells an ‘AMS’ tune for $1300, gives $900 of it to EPL, and has a solution for B8 guys…which leads those same guys into buying a $32 pulley for $400 etc. etc.
-EPL sells more than 3 tunes (huge win for EPL)

Pretty simple. Look how excited empty headed uninformed people like Saxon are…there’s loads of guys out there who will say ‘AMS 7 second GTR = must be good = here’s my $2000 for tune/pulley’

AMS stage 1 S4…the S7 eater…hahahaha

Disappointing. I was expecting them to invest in it and rewrite EPL’s tune. All they did was tag their name on it. And I thought there were a few stage 1 12.0-12.2 times on pump.

Not with tune-only. I think Auditude’s 12.41 is the best in that regard.

And what do you have to prove its bad tune… no hearsey or info from other generations

I don’t think anyone said it was a bad tune, but it is basically just a tune…like all the others. It isn’t out of this world or better than anything. EPL was horrible at tuning other Audi platforms. How embarrassing was it that they couldn’t tune the AMD supercharged RS4, they got dropped, AMD picked up another tuner and released the kit with a UM tune within 2 weeks?

What is exciting about matching or going slower than the competitors. Don’t say it drives prices down, because APR isn’t going to give a shit about AMS trying to make a splash. Like Saki said, AMS is just trying to get in on pumping overpriced stage 2 kits to the people who think “AMS, fast EVOS and GT-Rs…has to equal fast Audis!”

FULLY tuned, and running the same as the other guys…lol

I guess we will just wait and see what stage 2 does, will they over spin the blower or make a car that traps 120mph, but only runs a 12.5 ET. Maybe they can have AMD build their motors too.

Shouldn’t this be a post, in the existing AMS thread?

tuning is tuning.

In a supercharged or turbocharged application, a boost change will yield results even if you’re a monkey. So on the B8 S4, you literally just need to know how to set a higher threshold for boost bleed off. That one change will make the car SIGNIFICANTLY faster. You don’t need to touch the throttle. You don’t need to touch timing. You don’t need to touch anything.

So if we have a potential gain for stage 1 of X, you can achieve a majority of that gain with that one change.

Listen, I get that you think we’re saying that EPL will be no faster than stock etc. That’s clearly not the case.

The rebellion against EPL is simple

  1. they aren’t that good - their results on other platforms and this platform aren’t that good

  2. they are very slippery and avoid acceleration testing

  3. they have a terrible record of selling using in house dyno sheets

THose three things are why they’re causing people to get their back up. They have done this for the past 5 years, and just because they close boost bleed off on a B8 S4 doesn’t mean we’re going to suddenly hail them as great tuners.

I get that you guys are having fun saying how great their 12.45 was, but reality is that it’s just decent. The reason it looks like ‘one of the fastest tune only times’ is because it’s also one of the ONLY tune only times. Almost nobody on our list, of the dozens of B8 S4s, went with just a tune.

Put a pulley, intake, tune, and some good gas on it and lets see it go 11.6-11.7. Then it will be making some waves. Having it run mid 12s @ 110 (2 tenths and 2 mph from the fastest stock runs we’ve seen) isn’t exactly exciting.

I figured this would be easier to find and that other thread is off topic. This way someone won’t have to read through 12 pages for results

12.7? That seems pretty far off from other data I have. Most of the stage 1 data I have is long gone due to people updating mods and octanes and then running again. If someone wants to weed through the pages, they can find more results, or they can look at the list and take it for what it’s worth.

Interesting records:

12.27 @ 115.71 - DSG - APR 93 octane v1.0 - 04-2011 - Fonzie - Flash and Modified Exhaust
12.48 @ 111.76 - 6MT - APR 93 octane v1.0 - 11-2010 - Sobz - Flash only - Post

I don’t doubt on our latest software someone could do better in cold weather.

[quote]Alpha performance if im not mistaken is EPL tuning, very well respected on the b5s4’s

Oh God…

I feel like these are EPL trolls pumping software they won’t ever even buy. Another B5 guys talking about how great they are fiasco.

Nice… Good for them… I bet they spent a ton on R&D…

I was looking at tune only on our database. And as I noted, the 12.7 time was on APR’s v.1 flash.

Also, that 12.48 time was run with the AWE exhaust and strat intake.

Saxon is waiting until they come out with their pulley anyway…and cable.

Cookie cutter…AMS/EPL know about cam timing…duh

No problem. I filled in what I could. I got to page 10+ on audizine and stopped looking so there may be different results out there I didn’t spot.
