Honestly just look at our 60-130 list from 2-3 years ago. Everyone was running 12’s. 3-4 revisions for Tsivas from APR and the same from me with GIAC and were seeing 9’s and 10’s in similar conditions and same strip of ‘track’. Can’t say these tunes haven’t evolved and been ‘customized’. I think now with my car and same with APR and Tsivas’ car i don’t think there’s much more room to get quicker on the stock blower. If i’m able to crack 11.5 on the stock blower i think that will be borderline ridiculous for a car with only bolt on parts…
it means he comes from a JDM platform where people think you need custom tuning because they use random parts from random cars all the time.
or it means he has been brainwashed into thinking custom tuning for a basically stock car is better. The RS4 guys used to fall for this from EPL all the time. It was hilarious and produced some epic battles. Guys were told that because they had a different catback they should get custom tuned…and that the JHM tune was only designed for JHM full exhaust. It was a way to trick some of the weaker minded RS4 owners (a large group frankly) into holding off on the JHM tune and getting EPL.
Of course we then saw zero data points from EPL or any EPL tuned RS4 . Just lots of rhetoric and subjective tosh. “Driveability is so great” . lol
Speaking of GIAC improvements, should I look at updating my tuning Pete? I’m not sure that I have the newest/latest/greatest revisions although the car feels pretty solid.
I’m obviously partial to JHM but here’s what I would say
When EuroCode leaked what they were working on, the twin disc, someone in the know told me ‘that clutch will drive like a 1970s big block drag car and the Audi owners won’t like it. It also won’t last for shit’.
Fast forward 6 months, and EuroCode launches it with a list of caveats a mile long. ‘not for daily driving’…‘may only last 5000 miles’ etc.
So I wouldn’t think twice about this. The JHM clutch will be strong, and has a lightweight flywheel, and is designed to by like stock but with more holding power. You may have had a JHM clutch in your B6, and if you did, you will recall that it could take a beating and felt like stock for tootling around.
I would ask JHM if they are working on a 1R or 5R setup for the B8.
well the truth is most of the tunes ARE cookie cutter tunes…because that’s what you guys need. You don’t need custom tuning for stock FI and heads etc . This is silly talk.
The better tuners will write a file that can take advantage of your modlist as it improves, and will keep the car safe if you’re running minor supporting mods. Custom tuning again is a way to fool people into thinking they’re getting something special.
I did indeed have the JHM Stage 4 setup in my B6 and LOVED it… That’s why i’m partial to JHM also, plus i love what they do with every platform and would love to have some of their parts on my car…
I think i’m going to email them and talk to them about a 5R setup for my car and see what they have planned.
Thanks man, i’m really hoping so… I would be happy with anything in the 11’s but realistically my goal is always to be the fastest and i would really love to hit mid 11’s consistently in this car… I’ve come to the conclusion i will never go Stage 3 so i’m trying to get everything out of the car that i can from it’s current performance maybe just adding some LW parts…
you seem like a smart guy, if you dont think that different mods/fuel require different cam angles than im not sure what to tell you…
yes cookie cutter means you go and buy everything off the shelf and mod your car based on “stages” … i dont mean to get your panties in a bunch and im glad you dont mind going to a sho pto get flashed everytime, epl/ams already have a flashing tool for the b8 that will allow remote flashing and remote tuning for one off setups.
I just noticed that Auditude had mentioned he is running C16. Obviously no cats but it runs well on leaded fuel?
Have been debating trying C16 in my 2.0T for next season although the plan is to get it running on E85 at some point. Haven’t seen or heard of too many people running leaded in DI motors!
thanks for the picture of my car, im glad to see you researched me
mods currently are a custom exhaust and an intake, i plan on tuning for e85 like i did with my evo and with my 335i. i also plan on going with a set of headers and possibly porting the charger (not sure if any gains are to be had there)
i dont expect you to understand that different length intakes/headers can benefit from playing around with the cam timing but i assure you there is power to be made with custom tuning for e85/meth. and while you pay and wait for apr/giac to release an update i can just plug a cable into my car and be done with it
