Good work Pete. I really thought it was going to be much much closer… wow.
Did you guys try at least once from a dig? Would be curious to see how close it is at slower speeds and when the GIAC car really starts to pull away.
I think Apr is just waiting for jhm to tune the stage 3 kit for someone and post it on the jhm server…which is also the Apr server.
After that the Apr tuned stage 3 kit should do just fine (if history is any indication).
When Apr couldn’t figure out the B8 S4 they were constantly calling someone who works at Ford for help. I was with him for a week3ns and the calls and text messages had to number in the double digits. All of which were answered with help. Despite paying him nothing, and despite him working for their competitors. I guess that’s what axle factories teach you lol.
Nice work guys, this pretty much negates everything Arin said in the thread about the warm weather and their 11.x run, and cooler weather DA’s blah blah.
First off major thanks to Pete and Richi for doing this! Especially Richi for laying out the cash, hopefully Magnuson/ARP/RSW will do something to make this right…
Honestly, I thought Pete’s dad’s car would win given DSG vs manual but iI thought it would be close and the win would be do to the DSG vs manual but t’s apparent from these videos there’s more to it then that… Like I stated earlier I thought it was odd that Magnuson released this and not APR.
Pete, I know on vendorzine you mentioned some logs, any chance you could send them to me at mustanggtron@yahoo.com as I’d love to review… It’s not my data or car so if not I understand but I’d really like to see them…
I guess I should be thankful at this point that Magnuson still hasn’t shipped me a kit do to them “sorting through a few things before more kits go out”… Not sure I want the kit until I see more data and NOT, I repeat, NOT from EC or RSW or any of their paid shills… That’s one of the good tihngs with Richi he’s like me we love APR stuff but we report true results unlike these companies and some users…
Overall though, I’m sure GIAC is happy, but really it’s a blow for the platform moving forward.
Also it is fun being right. Our analysis of the way they released the kit was spot on.
Why did they release those hail Mary ricer passes on race gas and no interior and no exhaust and slicks and a non production pulley?
Because everything else fucking sucked. And they (Apr and magnusson) knew it.
From where I sit and based on crews reply Magnuson is stuck with a bunch of these and just said fuck it…we are selling them. They aren’t selling very well on the rs4 or r8 probably because there’s hardly any rs4s or r8s but also because we know of like 5 cars with the kit and none have gone smoothly.
The b8 3.0t was the last hope. Unfortunately a small V6 doesn’t seem to work driving a supercharger that GM is using on 6.2 litre V8 lol. That might have been a clue when the only oem application is an engine that is more than double the displacement.
Str8blst - his car was randomly stalling and having trouble. Couldn’t pass readiness emissions.
The original test car (customer from chicago) had its motor blown at least once and sources at Apr said more than once…and this was AFTER the kit was released for full retail release.
Meem’s car blew the motor within a couple weeks of install…then when he dynod the car on the new full compression replacement engine it made only 450 whp (vs the 500+ claimed by apr)
That guy in socal who lost compression after a few months and surmised the piston rings were fried.
Incidentally this is the EXACT reason JHM told me 3 years ago they would not run a high boost blower on the RS4. Unfortunately before they could post the sad results of their research for everyone, Apr released their stage 3 so jhm had to shut their mouths. If jhm said anything it would look like sour grapes so they just waited patiently. Now that the Apr kit is killing motors hopefully people understand now why jhm’s big power kits will have revised internals.
Flyingbagofdildoes - got paid to sell the kit so who cares what he says, although we do know he bought a replacement engine and we do know his car created a bad smokeshow at a car show (out the exhaust not the tires) and it had to be trailered 300 miles home . We also know he ran 11.28@125 in - 2800 feet of da which would be 11.70@121 at 0 feet of DA. In line with Meem’s shit dyno results.
In my mind, this really points out that the kit was not ready for prime time (pun intended!!!). Which is what we all kind of assumed given the ridiculous product launch. To be fair, this was against one of the fastest B8 S4’s on the planet. Until the 1740 gets in the hands of someone like Primetime, who will run the car, log the car and work with the tuner…I’m not sold that there is no performance to be gained. Richi - maybe you can work with APR to help calibrate? Hopefully APR has the latitude to work on the tuning with Ron/Richi, and this doesn’t become a magnusson middle man situation. If so, then this kit is probably doomed.
It would be interesting to see if GIAC would tune a 1740 car??? Wonder if APR has any kind of exclusivity…but why couldn’t a customer take it to GIAC? That would definitively prove whether the 1740 has any room and why wouldn’t GIAC have incentive to tune it?? Would pretty much be a knock out punch as to who has better calibration expertise.
^^ I don’t know. It seems like perhaps the blower is just not a good fit for the B8. The way sak laid out JHM’s thought process with respect to the RS4 is pretty compelling.
I don’t see why they couldn’t or wouldn’t. At the end of the day they would simply need access to car with this blower on it. I mean how could APR stop them from providing a tune?
With respect to the fastest b8 s4 on the planet, that may be. However the 7th fastest dsg b8 s4 is within 1.5 tenths of ‘one of the fastest’. Put the right mods on a b8 s4 and they are amazingly fast. It’s not exclusive to Auditude3.0T.
Auditude3.0T went 11.56. Let’s pretend he is an 11.3 car for fun. And let’s pretend he was on race gas last night.
Ok?
He won by 8 or 10 cars lengths in a roll race. That’s about 4-5 car lengths in a 1/4 mile run.
That’s about 4-5 tenths since the car is going 150 feet per second and is 15 feet long.
So if we pretend Auditude3.0T is an 11.3 car and we pretend he is on race gas to make Apr, Magnuson, and richi’s feel better…that means richi’s car is around an 11.7-11.8 car on pump gas.
In other words about 1 tenth faster r than the fastest 5 b8 s4s on pump gas.
That’s fucking horrendous and STILL won’t make anyone feel better.
So about those logs? If both cars were logged, reviewing boost, timing, iat’s, etc will tell a ton about both cars… I know what pump gas stage II cars logs look like… Can we share them? I think sharing logs from both cars could shed more light on what is going on, that’s what we’re here for right?
Richi told me not to share logs yet. Let me talk to him and see if he wants to send them over your way. I don’t have logs from last night of my car but I can grab some after work today.
Saki used your knowledge for this post… Hope you don’t mind I copy and pasted.
"I won by 8 or 10 cars lengths in a roll race. That’s about 4-5 car lengths in a 1/4 mile run.
That’s about 4-5 tenths since the car is going 150 feet per second and is 15 feet long.
So if my car in last nights conditions is an 11.75 car, that means Richi’s car is around a 12.1-12.2 car in the 1/4. Considering APR ran 11.1 with a prototype pulley, no seats, no exhaust, race gas, super light wheels and slicks I don’t think the results are 100% out of line.
Consider this:
The APR run was 11.15 @ 121.5
remove slicks = 1.5 tenths and no MPH…that means normal tires is 11.30 @ 121.5
normal wheels/tire weight = 0.5 tenths and 0.5 MPH …that means 11.35 @ 121.0
remove protopulley = 2 tenths and 2 MPH…that means 11.55 @ 119.0
put back front/rear seats and catback = 200 lbs = 1.5 tenths and 1.5 mph…that means 11.70 @ 117.5
So in 3000 feet of DA and ‘normal’ trim, this car runs 11.70 @ 117.5.
I said 3000 feet because that’s what dragtimes DA calculator said for 3pm at MMP on July 30 I don’t care what APR’s toy said. We always use dragtimes for an idea of what’s what.
Now in the past we’ve seen that Race gas generally in all B8s is good for .2-.3 seconds and 2-3mph.
Let’s say .3 and 3 mph for argument sake.
Now we’re at 12.0@114.5
Basically making sense of last nights results. Could there be a little more in Richi’s car? 100% but I don’t think we’re going to be blown away at any point by this kit."

Thanks Pete! Just trying to get all the data to see wtf is going on and so I can to make the best decision… I still think the kit will perform as it’s a pretty simple concept given it’s a larger blower and more efficient… I have confidence that if it’s a tune issue Eric will figure it out and if it’s a hardware/install issue that can be resolved… Quite a few have bitched about RSW so maybe they didn’t bleed the system correctly causing IAT’s to shoot way up, causing mass timing retard, resulting in a slow car… It’s certainly plausible/possible and a review of the logs would tell pretty quickly… Honestly, surprised logs weren’t a requirement of this beta program… I’ve always been told from APR if I test something they need to see the data…
