APR Mobile app out - no 3.0TFSI support?

Posted this on AZ after seeing their announcement on FB but will post here too…

Looks like it is out, but no support for our cars or any with SIMOS ECUs. Bosch only at this time. is there any timeline Arin? 2 weeks ;)?

It looks really good, that’s what makes this suck so bad for us.

What is the deal lately. APR is really trying to reach back into the rs4 and 4.0tt cars and thats great but isn’t theb8 s4 tthere big thing…seems this would be the first thing I would have wanted to go for…good thing is arij is here and im sure he can say more…maybe it just cant be done for the simos…

Hopefully this comes to our platform. The current method for program-switching is pretty terrible.

Arin mentioned in a thread today that Simos support is coming “later”. Their bread and butter is VW, which makes sense they would initially support MED.

Brandon, Wow really… curious as to why you feel that way… As long as you know what slot the program you want is all you do is press and hold a button so to say… I’m used to it I guess since it worked the same on my B5… I like how it is “part of the car” so to say…

Personally, I could care less about this but realize why others would… I like switching(don’t switch much anyway) and will stick with vagcom for logging and such…

I also very rarely program switch. I’m personally interested in the data logger function. It would be nice to log to a phone wirelessly rather than via a VAG-COM cord to a laptop. It also seems that the code reading function is cloud based and they continually update and provide feedback regarding error codes.

Ross-tech has a wireless option coming as well, it will be an interesting decision. The APR solution is 1/2 the price but obviously doesn’t include the coding ability.

simple solution: don’t program switch

Just put it on the 100 tune and forget about it… :stuck_out_tongue:

I just found it to be clunky. And my passcode didn’t work until after I upgraded to v.2.2 earlier this year. Even then, I wasn’t confident that my local APR dealer properly slotted the 100 octane file, so I haven’t even bothered to try it out at the track.

gotcha… I opted not to get a security code… I do a quick check of the tunes to make sure they match what APR writes on the little book they give you… Probably helps that I send the ECU to APR each time and put it to Arin’s attention most times since they haven’t slotted the wrong tune ever…

Prime the resolution you will get on this kind of system will be miles ahead of VCDS. We can’t even see timing change or knock properly at ALL, and severe limits on number of points logged…VCDS stinks, you’ll agree when you get this…

$200 dongle? Puhlease

Apr you need users and feedback before you can charge more than Microsoft Office.

You’re funny! $200 for such a low-volume item and support over a couple OS’s…you’re probably barely covering the costs. considering that VCDS costs more this is a pretty good alternative if you don’t need all the other garbage like coding your signal lights and chimes but are more interested in logging.

Would be pretty easy to incorporate the maintenance items such as e-brake, fuel pump, coolant pump actuation…I’d say this is the start of something good if they play their cards right.

Isn’t this kind of like ecux revised? But with better way to get the data into your hands? If so soon it will be stolen and on n e f

Vagcom incorporates the coding changes which is nice. That’s definitely something people care about. On the other hand, people who are so serious about logs that they need the far finer data rate either have very customised cars, or they are logging for a hobby which sounds kinda boring. In this section you guys are driving barely modified cars with stock everything where it counts. You’re not driving custom tuned cars with headwork and cams etc. It’s a tune, a pulley… And that’s it really. Is super logging really a big deal?

Both seem like good options considering they’re very helpful in the event of a cel which on its own can save you the $200 if it is something simple vs going to the dealer. Both seem priced where they can be priced vs where you would expect them to be priced.

Don’t kid yourself though… Apr isn’t doing this to be a profit centre. They’re trying to get you to buy their tunes. It’s a value add that makes the $700 ecu tune for your gti more attractive when you consider the functionality.

I think these should be given out free to customers who buy a tune(mainly for our platform since it costs close to 2,000 for just a tune) and anyone who already has a tune should be given a discount. just my .02. if it included all the in depth functions like in depth logging and coding like Vaggcom, then it would be a different story, but for what it is at the moment, that is my thought.

J, Interesting… I guess I need to read it closer and understand it better… We’re swapping from a BB company to a Iphone company and I think my group is slated for Jan. so I guess I’ll buy it once it’s released for our cars… lol

Over 3 years ago I personally moved all our chemists and engineers to iPhone, and made our IT guys support MS Exchange, was quite the battle since they wanted everyone on BB since they have better control. And, they all made fun of us and our toy phones, look who’s laughing now. Everyone has one. I can support and control my entire plant automation from home or anywhere in the world, with any iOS device now.

Sak I agree, you bet this is for fun, seeing all the parameters isn’t required. But certain things Ike knock are important, as we know, and being able to see knock voltage and ignition timing in decent resolution would help for sure. Yeah it’s ECU-x but it looks pretty tightly controlled from APR, from the description it doesn’t seem to give you all the parameters to play with. That’s the sort of thing that drives people to take it underground, ie n:mfoto, as we are all aware.

I believe 1000+ people paid for the APR tune without this added bonus. APR has no real business reason to discount the tune by another $200 (which is what including this would do) since the market is clearly saying ‘we will pay this’.

If everyone stops getting tuned, you may see them adjust the economics to make it more attractive, but until then I don’t see it.

J, Good for you that’s pretty cool… Not sure what is spurring our change so to say but traditionally we are a very conservative company especially when it comes to tech. My guess would be we got a smoking deal? I do know there was/is a concern about the lack of the ability to control conent and access on the iphone unlike BB. Funny thing is I play fantasy football with a few VP’s and Division President’s and our site got locked out one day, I think it was flagged as a gambling site or something… Now if I would have called they wouldn’t have unlocked it but one of the big guys complained and it was opened within a day… lol

I also still have my ipad which I can’t stand but the case is a little splinttered after Wilhelm couldn’t pull up Thomas the Train on youtube he decicded to throw the ipad on to the tiled bathroom floor… Didn’t go so well for the ipad but it still works… $200 to have it rescreened but I’m just going to buy something else since I don’t like it… I guess I should keep it for when this ap comes out for the S4. Sucks the dongle only works on one vehicle from their site so looks like I’ll have to get one for the RS as well…
