That’s me. I just ordered the Ross Tech VCDS to check the readiness. My APR s/c (TVS1320) was installed about a month ago. That’s the last time the battery was disconnected. I have put a couple hundred miles on it. I purchased the s/c used and the 1st owner said he was driving the car for about 6 months before he had to smog and it passed.
Wasn’t that a promotion of sorts? I can’t see them offering that forever. I thought it had something to do with people upgrading to the bigger charger could sell their kit with a free software change.
true say! jhm will knock 300 off the price of tunes when changing so aprox 450 bucks. id be pretty upset if I paid that kind of money for that kit not knowing that it won’t pass readiness. what do u do at that point? take it off every 2 years go pass and put it back on?
Yup, so like I said before no real solution for the owners besides a hassle of finding a shop with a “$100 handshake” or finding a county where smog is not required. I’m glad he posted this for the current APR s/c kit owners who might be going through the same ordeal and for the ones who might be considering purchasing their kit.
Here’s his post for the lazy ones from the above link:
[QUOTE=2QK4U]I held off posting until my readiness/smog/supercharger issues were resolved.
I took the RS4 back to the shop a couple of weeks ago. Numerous things were checked with emissions: O2’s, etc. Nothing mechanical turned up during inspection. APR was contacted, a reflash of the s/c file was performed. Eventually APR admitted the kit was not meant to pass emissions.
I decided to just register the car in an adjoining county that doesn’t require smog. Since I work out of town more than half the year, I was able to do this legally. On the plus side, the registration & insurance is cheaper!
It’s too bad no real fix could be found for this. I know this doesn’t help anybody else with this problem (especially if your in CA). I consider myself lucky to have found this solution.
