APR updated 3.0T tune?

Brandon, thanks! I’m looking forward to more testing and some new parts!

Here is the vid of the 12.0 slip above as I made it public… This is the only run LC “activated” yesterday…Pay attention on the shift there is no fart and it’s almost cvt like, you can tell the best on the 3-4(track noise wise)… It’s only a LC feature but the shifts are near seemless… I thought I broke the tranny the first time I experienced this… Lol. I have gopros but left the damn as card in my pc in my office… Maybe I’ll start a thread and do a review in the morning but with all the experts on vendorzine gettin it there’s probably no need…

Updated tune is what I was referring to. If your car picked up 2 mph of trap speed, so would any car likely, irrespective of transmission . It’s not like their dsg file is making it shift or launch quicker (much slower in fact as is evident by the 12.0) so there must be some power gains, agreed? To that end their power gains would apply to both dsg and manual cars. And they haven’t posted anything, despite trying for a while to dethrone giac.

youve also had this file for a while yes? And had no luck last year either iirc. So if you want to bet a coke, sure. What’s the deadline for this 11.4? And are we to assume you still have a TVS1740?

And since you’re working for Apr, I fear you may be prone to stripping your interior, running drag radials amd no exhaust in order to be fastest. Let’s just clarify up front…that doesn’t count either.

The 60 foot is weird… And so are the 1-2 and 2-3 sections. All very slow. After 330 (into 3rd) it’s on pace for 12.37

Its not just the launch.

I think I will try a cherry coke…

Shifts sound lazy and like they’re slipping?

What’s with the car rolling off the line? The launch control looks fucked.

Too bad JHM doesn’t have a B8 S4 file. APR would fix theirs real quick if so.

+1
HHHM, watched the video over and over again it doesn’t look like the cars is leaving the starting line as it should and the shifts do seem like they’re taking a while (not crisp). Isn’t this whole update and TCU tune supposed to improve things like that? Make the car smoother and more linear across the powerband while improving shift speed etc. Launch harder with LC? Personally I prefer Primes smash and go but… Maybe same problem as dsg tune on golf r…to much torque causing slippage. I am a noob so correct me if I’m wrong

I’m not 100% up to date on the b8 S4 performance but is the 120.8 now the fastest mph for one of these cars…That’s kinda exciting.

The gain of mph is good it would be nice to see the result transfer over to the ET as well. If it translates to better ET this might. Mean APR is back.

Primetime congrats. Maybe post some of your thoughts on the news tunes. If you think the car is 11.4 possible it would be cool to start a new thread to talk about the new tune on your car and allow us to follow your progress.

Saki, Yes the new ECU tune is very nice and is definitely making more power based on the 3 or 4 trips I’ve made to the dragstrip with it so all cars should see a nice bump and the logs show this as well… I’d say it’s good for 1-2mph…

I’ve had the file for a few weeks, I didn’t have these files last year as they are new to my car in the last month or so…

Let’s be clear I in NO WAY work for APR… I work with them on occasion to help test tunes and I am not compensated to do this in fact it costs me quite a bit mostly in time and gas, which I have no problem with and quite honestly enjoy and appreciate.

As we’ve been over before I paid full price for the ECU tune back in 2010. I got the pulley at cost because ECS wanted to use my car to make bling bling parts and in return they gave me the pulley at cost and did the install with video which has helped countless people. I got the CPS during the initial release sale and paid what everyone else did. I also purchased my Brembo brakes from APR and got a nice price there because the sales team quoted me the incorrect set and then once I paid they realized it but after a few back and fourths they honored the price they originally gave me…

I think I’ve been as transparent as possible with this forum and others in the past. I pointed out when the first tune didn’t take on the forums for all to see, I pointed out when the pulley didn’t work for all to see, I pointed out when my CPS half ass cap failed twice now for all to see, and now since this product is released I’m pointing out that my car is having some issues. Again, it could be me the driver, it could be the car itself, or it could be the dsg tune. I’m not sure and honestly I don’t think APR is either, however they remained committed to make it work. I don’t determine when their products get released in any way shape or form, if you want my opinion I wouldn’t have released this yet, but again not my call. Once it got released yesterday I no longer needed to keep my testing to myself since it will be open for all to use.

LOL if you really think I’m going to strip the car, go with drag radials, 17 inch wheels, or whatever… The only change I make to the car prior to heading to the strip is I take the spare out along with the tools. Floor mats stay in, engine covers stay on, etc. If I get the record great I’ll be very happy if not I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. Does APR want to have the fastest B8, yes they do, but I’m just a customer trying to run better ET’s.

So sure I’ll bet a cherry coke to a 7up(I don’t drink dark pop, actually I don’t drink much pop at all but I’ll partake in an occasional 7up)… The car currently has the TVS1320 that it came with from the factory. Given it’s almost summer I’d like to have the bet run through Nov., is that fair?

I’m not trying to start a trouble here with anyone including you, I’m an enthusiast who enjoys his toys and like to share and hopefully occasionally help others. If this turns into a lets be critical of APR thread I won’t partake as I want to be clear that isn’t my intention, and I’d appreciate it if you and anyone else doesn’t turn it into that. If you’d like to do that please start a thread and I’m sure you’ll have plenty of comments just not from me. Thanks I do appreciate it and hope that my threads are considered productive for the B8 folks…

Agreed the car is not launching correctly and it won’t let me use the smash and go method any more which I believe is because of how LC works, but I’m not a tuner so that is my opinion, but an opinion with a decent amount of experience… The poor 330 and 1/8 are all a result of the bad launch I’ve done lots of testing from a very slow roll trust me it’s all based on the slow launch… The car is a much much more strong in the top end but it’s also better down low I just can’t get it to launch. I’ll do a writeup with more details on the engine tune and dsg when I get some time hopefully today or this weekend… Cherry coke vs 7up it is! LOL

You understand that a smile face means a joke right? Guess not.

Let’s try plain English… I WAS JOKING! I get beta testing, I know you don’t work for apr and I know you paid like the rest of us have to.

You have more integrity alone than the collective sum of most entire forums, and I’d never doubt anything you post. Just so we are clear.

P. S. You said ‘pop’… Thought that was Canadians only? For the record I drink carbonated water (I use a soda stream no syrup) almost exclusively. But a coke is a better currency. I stored by Mr Burns in a Simpson’s episode 20 years ago. Apparently Harry shearer the voice of Mr burns is retiring though.

That run LC was activated and when it does activate the shifts are performed differently… While it sounds lazy it’s actually smoother and faster. Again, not a tuner but I think they are intentionally slipping the clutches or have found a different way to make the car shift… I’ll do my best to get some gopros of it to share with everyone.

I don’t know why the car is rolling of the line as LC is just not working for my car or again maybe it’s me?

This has nothing to do with JHM, if CV wanted to tune my car I’d pay him top dollar to come down and do his thing, but since I don’t think he is interested I go to the best choice and the only company who had tunes when I first bought the car… APR is working on this and I’ll have another flash soon with some adjustments and they plan to figure it out or I’ll have the LC portion of the tune removed. At this point that’s the plan… The rest of the DSG tune is really slick and works well and I’m comfortable with it…

That was a joke too (about jhm). It referenced apr’s history of borrowing from jhm to fix their fuckups.

Nope - that’s common parlance in the States as well. At least up north.

The car isn’t leaving the line as it should so your 100% point on there… The shifts are not lazy it’s designed that way when LC is activated. Based on my use, comparing data logs, and APR’s research the car shifts faster in this way… Trust me it freaked me out the first time it happened as I though something was wrong… At this point I prefer my smash and go and if we can’t get it to work I’ll have LC removed from my tune… I’m not sure what’s causing it honestly it could be me…

Justin, Thanks! Yes I believe it’s the fastest mph but I care more about the shitty ET… It will transfer it’s just a matter of time and tweaks imo, but until I prove it I’m just speculating… I plan to do a “review” just been busy at work and such but I’ll do it today or this weekend… In the mean time I have no issues answering questions and such…

Thanks! I was fairly sure you were having fun thus the detailed reply… I appreciate the honesty so no hard feelings on my part and I hope on yours… If I don’t have an 11.49999 ET this year you’ll get the soda ;D

Gotcha… I was joking if CV would tune the car I’d pay him to come down and for all his time… It’s probably not in the cards so it is what it is… I’m sure I’ll get the pulley they are making!

Here ya go ;D

I don’t want to put words/facts into anyones mouth, but I think there is something interesting going on. There are 3 major talking points I see with this new tune.

  1. The LC isn’t working right, as evidenced by Ron’s time slip and video. You can see that the car is not launching violent at all.

  2. The new tune is absolutely making more power up top. Hoping this translates to the B8.5! Would be interesting to hear from APR why this is…but maybe that’s confidential info…

  3. APR is doing something “different” with the shifting. I’ll try not to say the wrong thing here, but I believe they are slipping the clutch packs during each shift. It’s probably more complex than that, because each upshift will involve going from one set of gears to the other. They are somehow getting more torque. Will be interesting to see logs with clutch pressure and RPM’s. This is a selling point on their marketing material, which is seen here:

drob, 1) agreed that something isn’t working but again it could be me, the car, or the tune… The next step will be to have only one LC setting and try it as my belief at least on my car is that the multiple settings are causing the problems at least when it activates… I had no problem activating it previously just wouldn’t work correctly. Now it seems much harder to activate it and I’m pretty sure that’s not me as holding the brake and applying gas is something I think I can safely say I’m capable of… If that doesn’t work like I mentioned I’m hoping APR will just remove LC from my car and let me keep all other features…

  1. I’m pretty sure you’ll be good here as will all B8.5’s… The ECU tune is stout and still seems very safe with timing pull and timing levels so I don’t think they are bleeding edge safety wise… Heck I think I asked them to create a drag race only tune, as Keith had alluded to this years ago, so that it is closer to the limit but you only use it for a pass, check logs, let car cool, and make another pass… Just don’t think that’s in APR’s plans as they want to sell lots of tunes not build one off files for me… Their aware I have no problem paying for it though if they’d like to do it… If the car goes boom, I write Audi a check and start over… lol

  2. Agreed… Once things are sorted and assuming LC works, I’ll figure it out as I’m really going to dig into the DSG logging… That’s an area no one on the forums has really experienced but now that we are “tuned” I’d like more of a picture… I have a similar thought on the slipping the clutches… I will say based on the logs the car doesn’t dump boost or show ignition angle after/during shifts like the shifts in normal mode when the car farts so to say… If anything that is where most of the results come from… It feels much smoother vs harsher again almost like a cvt if that makes sense… I can send you the logs if you’d like

Pop map is awesome, drob. 8)
