Audi 3.0T motor model power thread.

It seems the 3.0T motor is quickly becoming one of Audi’s favorite motors to put in these cars. From what I’ve seen you can get the 3.0T is 5 different power levels. Some of you will be shocked to find out what car actually has the most powerful 3.0T motor.

Over the past few weeks, we have seen several performance minded 3.0T guys talk about performance issues, or potential performance issues. I thought on the back of that, it might be a good idea to start really collecting a ton of 3.0T data starting with what and where you can find the 3.0T.

You can find the 3.0T in at least 10 different car configurations across the Audi brand. Here are some

Here is how most of you guys know it.

Then if can be found in the new S5

Then the Q7 you can find it in 2 different power levels in the Q7

The A6

Then lastly the Q5 and the QS5

There are a few others that have the 3.0T motor in them that I didn’t remember to take a picture of .

They include:
The A7 and the A8. Both of them in different power levels. Out of all the Audi models that offer the 3.0T what one has the highest power rating?

Guess before you move on.

This one and by a impressive margin 20hp and 20tq over the next highest

That’s right, the Q kid carrier with a bit of ‘S’ flair gets the nod for the highest 3.0T motor hp. The standard S4 power comes in at 333hp and 325tq. The QS however comes in with 354 and 346. Even the A8 isn’t getting that kind of power from the 3.0T. I would have thought that the biggest Audi in the stable would have gotten the higher HP as well.

The other neat thing about the Q line of cars is the Q7. The standard Q7 comes with 280 hp and 295tq. When you step up to the Q7 S line. You get a nice bump in up from 280 to 333 and the tq goes from 295 to 325. Nice jump.

A5 gets 272hp 295tq
Q5 gets 272hp 295tq
Q7 gets 280hp 295tq
A6 gets 310hp 325tq
A7 gets 310hp 325tq
Q7s gets 333hp 325tq (S is for s line)
A8 gets 333hp 325tq
S4 gets 333hp 325tq
S5 gets 333hp 325tq
QS5 gets 354hp 346tq

I don’t mean to muddy up your thread CV, but I sure wish Audi imported their diesel SQ5 that everyone else in the RoW gets, instead of the HO 3.0T petrol variant.

The hybrid touareg has the 3.0t as well making 380hp and 428 lb.ft with the electric motor. Not sure if that fits in here!

So does the Porsche Cayenne hybrid doesn’t it? Or it did.

CV, neat thread. Note that it’s a SQ5, not QS.

There was some talk that the 3.0T was going to be offered in the A4 and A5 at 270 hp. Guess that never materialized.

It is, just not here.

ah really? neat.

It’s kinda like the Q5 S line 3.0T vs. SQ5. What’s the $10,000 for…the shiny mirrors? Just get a 3.0T S line. You can tune it for $1200 and be 40 hp up on the SQ5.

I’d be interested to hear if there are any mechanical improvements made to increase the power numbers on the SQ5. Let’s not forget you get the shiny SQ5 badges for the $10,000

I just had this exact conversation with someone a day or two ago, deja vu. I recall looking into this and there was no mechanical difference. It’s literally just the “s”

Strange the SQ5 motor isn’t improved. Runs contrary to VAG’s history to overbuild for power bumps (TT225, B5 RS4, C5 S6/8, B7 RS4, etc).

So the only difference between these motors and their output is just boosting? No camshaft profiles? No bigger cooling systems or bigger throttle body?

That’s what I was told by a local audi tech fwiw. Waiting for CV or someone to agree or correct that lol.

RS gets the gold now with the realignment. S not as much. It has become more of an engine extension of A.

Still on the Q5 and SQ5 discussion.

I’d be willing to bet the SQ5 has a better transmission, is that worth $10k (maybe to some) but it also probably has better suspension and the interior looks great, even compared to the 3.0T Sline. We did look at a few SQ5s because I was interested to see what they offer, but the difference wasn’t big enough for me to trade.

Edit: Just checked, same 8-speed TIP…I guess the letter S in front make the 10k

R too

Front brakes on SQ5 are larger, intake and exhaust are different…other than that I believe it’s cosmetic.

brakes are probably the rotors only, right?

Bigger rotors, bigger calipers, different suspension, different exhaust, flat bottom steering wheel, nicer seats, different grill, different rear valence, silver mirrors, and obviously more power which is good for someone not looking to mod.

In 2014 the S line 3.0T had the option for black optics package which gave it a sick interior, flat bottom wheel, suspension and wheels but that’s no longer an available for 2015…

Similarly equipped Q5 3.0T and SQ5 with exact terms lease about ~45 dollars different a month.

Not sure, but you may be right. Our 3.0T Q5 uses a Brembo 4 piston caliper w/ a 345mm rotor. The SQ5 is 380mm rotor and I believe are two piece rotors. The rears are all the same (minus paint).

^ our Sline 3.0 Q5 also has flat bottom wheel…no separate package required.

In Canada there is a 6K difference between the Q5 3.0T w/ Sline and SQ5.

Also, the SQ5 doesn’t have adaptive suspension available…which I actually use all the time.
