Audi Drags at Toronto Motorsports Park Cayuga - Fall 2015

Im pretty embarrassed but here it goes…

Best 60’ : 2.016
Best 330: 5.937
Best 1/8 :8.758

I have launched my car multiple times and I do know what a good launch is/feels like, but for some reason I wasn’t hooking up at the track. Il post A video of me doing a good launch vs the shity launches from Cayuga, I just need to upload it. The only times I had my wheels spin this much was in the rain. I think the compound on my Pilot Sports from 2008 are completely gone mixed with cold weather = Bad Comb

Sooo I took my car to the shop today to see what that rattle was and apparently I cracked my support mount (The part between Transmission mount and The Transmission Part#: 8D0-399-107-S). I already orderd it and should be in by Wednesday.

My mechanic is saying that it cracked because the Stern Transmission mounts I have installed are too stiff and he said that I should put the OEM ones back in so it gives more play. I still have my OEM ones in good condition. What do you guys think I should do?

Here are some videos:

Good Launch #1: https://youtu.be/6i3ZmqO8StY

Good Launch #2: https://youtu.be/PNQdSzXDKlE

Shitty Launch #1 1/8 8.7: https://youtu.be/0-n2krps3ow

Shitty Launch #2 1/8 8.8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cy50vgTF3E

Transmission Support Mount Breaking: https://youtu.be/rgfuLXPI7lw

To help everything from breaking I’m going to buy a Drive Train Stabilizer and install it at the same time as the support mounts. I will be keeping the Stern Transmission mounts.

I posted the wrong link for Shitty Launch #1, Here the link:

Yeah your street launches don’t look bad… Lol’ed at the gauge popping out… Your 8.75 is about 13.56 for the 1/4…

Lol at the gauge and trim too! It makes the launch look super violent…sorry man, hard not to laugh, I’ve owned a few cars like that, ironically, my B5 S4 was always 100% mint!

I’d give up on the clutch dump. I would just roll into it from idle and let the clutch engage well before 3000…maybe even pedal until 4-5000 rpm if that helps…you may not feel like you are getting a wicked launch, but not having wheelspin should help your cause a lot.

I’d also sit a lot closer to the wheel, you are really reaching for that shifter and have to puuullllll your body up for the shift…giving you less throttle control. should help you relax a lot more that way too, since you won’t be exerting as much force since everything is up close…

Just a couple thoughts from watching the tape. Karma that you posted the vids with the whole wide picture shown.

I need to super glue that gauge. I really appreciate the tips, Thank you! Il record more vids and post them in the future.

I just called St Thomas and they are open today. Anyone going?

Oh i forgot about St Thomas!
Anyone going to the strip sometime next week or the week after, please hollar.
I want to get some runs and get some #s for this Unitronic tune.

How much is it?

you’d have to private rent it

I think they want something like $600. With 10 cars that’s $60/each. Not bad considering. Probably get 4 hrs or so for that.

If we could get a group going I would defiantly come

Oh Snap… Thought I’d check in and see what’s new in the Audi scene and I come across this thread a few months too late. Wish I had more time to browse/participate on these forums :(. Anyway, next time you guys set something up PM me. I’d love to come out and catch up.

Dude. How’s your M3?

It’s running great!

Pulls hard, sometimes too hard, and scares the shit out of me! lol! That’s one thing I miss, awd. You can get on the gas so early. Not the case with rwd, especially higher HP rwd cars (like a C63 ;D). I was meaning to order wide and sticky tires to help put the power down this spring but since my son was born I haven’t driven the car much at all. Priorities…

Anyway, I see you’ve added a new German to the family since we last spoke. How do you like the AMG in comparison to the S4? It’s seems to be running well 11.9x @118 is quick!

yeah, didn’t he ESS supercharge his E92 a while ago? Would be neat to watch him try to keep it straight

Yes sir! The Vortech V3 blower is a great pairing with the linear high revving V8 in BMW. It can overpower the stock rubber during WOT in 3rd and sometimes 4th gears. I’ve added solid subframe/Diff bushings to keep the car planted during acceleration but the tires are still a weak point.

The only thing neater than watching me try to keep it straight from the sidelines would be seeing me struggle from inside the car. When I do go to the strip I think I’ll have the gopro pointed at me vs. the outside lane so I can see my own reaction… lol

spinning the tires in 4th is hilarious.

Lots of wheel correction when you launch it hard from a stop? Must be pretty funny. If you’re driving a DCT I imagine the launch program is at least somewhat useful.

Funny thing is I’ve launched a 650 hp SC RS4 and it was just like launching my old 340 hp B7 S4. No drama, just goes after a brief tire spin and then quattro sends you on.

That’s awesome you haven’t given up the M3, esp. considering your new addition at home, which also is awesome.

The C63 is really tame honestly, even with the 480hp package, I have 275s for the summer, but even with the winter 235s (lol) I don’t find traction lacking all that badly in a straight line. FWIW I think MB really has the 5-link rear figured out for straight line squat much better than the 3 and 5-series I’ve driven.

For that 11.9 runs I did I was flat before the top of first gear on street tires - in dyno mode, TC fully disabled, on a cold night.

We should get together next spring at TMP or mosport.

Honestly wheel spin sucks but wheel hop is the real enemy! That’s what really prevents you from launching the M hard. I was always scared I was going to break an axle or snap my diff bolts. The solid subframe/diff bushings have done wonders to reduce/eliminate wheel hop. I think with wider/stickier tires in the rear (AD08r in a 295/30) it should hook relatively well. I’d be happy to short shift 1st say 6500-7000 rpm and be flat the rest of the run…

Factory LC is useless even with a stock car. It revs to 6000 rpm which would be great if the car didn’t come with mushy subframe bushings and narrowish tires. They seemed to have understood that concept and fitted the new M3/M4 with solid subframe bushings and stickier MPSS’s. Now with the new M’s massive amount of tq at such a low rpm and being rwd not sure how useful it’s LC would be either. Back on topic, I’ve since updated my factory LC to the GTS version which brings the launch rpm down to 3500 but I’ve yet to try it as I’ve been uber busy.

Yup AWD is great for propelling you forward. Once you exceed 600hp it becomes a must if you don’t wont to feather the throttle in low gears all the time.

Thanks bud!

It sounds like you’re really happy with the C63 which is awesome! Good to know about MB rear end setup. I’ve been eyeing that GT-S as a successor to the M3 but I’ve been concerned about traction issues especially being TT’ed and all.

The only time I’ve been brave enough to turn TC off was at a small autoX course at mosport. With the blower, staying in 2nd, made the car a drifting champ. Lots of fun and surprisingly controllable as the E92 chassis has pretty good balance and ESS’s tuning is very close to stock level of refinement.

Yup lets get something going for the spring. That’ll give you some time to put a Weistec blower and Sak a JHM and see what’s what from a roll (as I doubt I can hang from a dig).
