Not sure when you got tuned? I believe APR “fixed” it… Again, I don’t have it so all my comments are based on what I have read on the interweb, and as we all know that is always 100% factual! LOL
To add to Saki’s point… A few DSG S4’s have gone 12.8 stock and a 6-speed has gone 12.6 stock… Oh and the Camaro is rated at 426/420 I believe, and the S4 as we all know quite a bit less at 333/325…

I got the latest APR Stg 2 flash two weeks ago from EuroTech and launch control still doesn’t work for me unless I switch to stock mode. In 93 tune mode, it revs to 4k and bogs; stock mode revs to 3k, holds it, then launches nicely. I never really used it anyway, tested it more out of curiosity than anything else.
and stage 2 B8 S4 is good for 11.9 with tons of mods (your car) to 12.2-12.3 with a more modest modlist…numbers that are quite a bit better than even the best stock L Camaro time.
My post was regarding the stage II AWD DSG B8 S4 vs. any RWD car with similar power/weight. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a RWD car that can match , and that’s due to the AWD advantage (which he thinks is not an advantage).
Bottom line
AWD auto Audis are VERY consistent at the strip
AWD is an advantage, all else being equal at the strip
To that end, we can take quite a good bit of information from the dragstrip databases we have compiled, regarding bank or bust type modification discussions.
Well I used to go to a much more local and convenient shop, but wasn’t happy with their work, so I’ve been trekking up to ET and making friends with the guys at Enterprise for a year now…so you could say I’ve been very satisfied with them, so much so that I go way out of my way to use them. I’ll go back to them this summer when I finally get the headers I’ve been procrastinating about for two years. FULL DISCLOSURE - I have no relationship with ET nor do I get any sweetheart deals! ;D
I was saying that I would like to understand the physics behind why it is that an AWD would be inherently quicker at the 1/4. I was also saying that if you skip ahead to 3:39 on this video you will see 11.96s/117 MPH and 11.93s/116 MPH. The only mod being the tires.
That is with a stock tune, and yes it is 426 crank HP, but if you believe the dyno results you quoted then the S4s are putting out at least 426HP at the crank and probably more. As for the 333 HP Audi states we all know that is under rated, again if you believe the dyno results for some of the stock S4s.
You may say they are using a professional driver, but that should be of no concern because the S4s are so consistent that even a trained monkey (no offense intended here) can drive them well. Time to take a break, but I will post more cars if you ask nicely. lol. Don’t get me wrong I love my S4 and think it’s a better car than the Camaro. I hope I find one in the desert next time I drive to Arizona to see for myself what it be.
I haven’t used it since I got the v2.2 tune last week. I really don’t like to use it much, it can’t be very good for the DSG. And it seems the results are mixed.
Those are not street tires. That was the whole point of the discussion. The Audi shows up awd DSG and rattles off great consistent times then drives home. AS IS. Don’t you think the Audi would be quicker on four drag radials??? So right there your example is shot. But that’s not the biggest problem with it
Thats a Camaro ZL1 which is 560 HP from the factory, not the 1LE.
So…not even close.
A stock b8 s4 does not make 426 HP. It makes probably 360 HP crank and as much torque. The torque curve is the key. It comes in hard, early, and just stays there till boost bypass. Tuning lets it run to redline without bypass.
The stage ii b8 s4 tends to dyno 350-370 or so to the wheels. This would likely be around 425-450 HP and 425 torque @ crank. Your 1LE was a good comparison. Unfortunately for you you just proved my point for me when the 1le was so slow… And you had to accidentally use a Camaro that made another 100 HP, on drag radials to come close. Thank you. .
LOL! CCWS4, lookup finncat21 on youtube and watch the vid of my car running a stock ZL1 Camaro on street tires at the strip last summer… It was pretty UGLY, for the ZL1…
My theory went down as fast as the ZL1 did. It’s hard to believe there is that much of a gap. Thanks for all the posts Saki and Primetime. This is one of those occasions where I don’t mind being wrong. I had been driving along like a happy idiot and never realized how fast my car is. Now I know why Audi’s slogan is “Truth in Engineering” and I will be happy to lay down some truth at the strip. There is a IHRA track in Tucson where I live, but I am never there these days. Will you accept IHRA results here?
Doug, congrats on the great times! Much better than I expected and glad to admit that… Hope you had fun and I’m sure you are happy the car did so well… These were on 91? If so even more impressive… Did you take go pros?
