B8 S4 headers bank or bust?

Actually, the B8 shifts at about 6900/7000 when in manual mode, 7200 when in Auto.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/501768-2013-S4-short-shifting-even-in-S-mode

they lowered everything on the cluster, both top speed as well as redline

oh ok, so it’s not short shifting then

Thought guys with DSG were complaining of a 7000 rev limiter no matter what, whereas the manual guys can push it to 7200

Very interesting that Audi slowed the engine speeds down so much. Must have been a reliability issue causing undue warranty claims.

Anyway, wouldn’t the ECU tune be able to adjust the redline/rev limiter? If so, shouldn’t the tuned B8.5 guys be hitting 7000 or so anyway?

Here’s a video of 2013 DSG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mNq95lRqQI
B8 in Manual mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRM-N-kfIDY
Auto mode shifts a little higher, maybe i’m wrong with 7200, but it’s def. higher. I’m usually watching the road and not my tach when driving.

I believe it is the TCU that controls the shift points, not the ecu (hence why there’s been an interest in a ‘DSG tune’).

I remember that in manual mode, my last car would shift at 6800 rpm. To get like a third gear log, I would keep the car in manual mode and switch it to S mode past 5k rpm at which it would shift at 7k rpm.

The RS5 goes all the way to redline (and will actually bounce off of the limiter too if you don’t upshift in manual mode).

That’s more in line with what I remembered about the B8 DSG cars…hitting 7000.

The B8.5 Manual cars…has anyone tuned one yet? I guess they could adjust the rev limiter there without much trouble.

p.s. hitting the rev limiter in an RS with a 4.2 FSI V8 is pretty crazy sounding. PAPAPAPOW!

go to the end to hear it…

That sounds great, but can’t be healthy. It reminds me of an antilag system… ;D

that’s what antilag is. Exact same thing.

Tach is going to be off either way… vagcom is much more accurate… In auto the car will shift above 7K on occasion… I’m actually busy in the office today so I can’t review too many logs but just looked at a few… Highest I saw was 7050ish but timing is retarded to hell…

Yeah I’ve seen 7100 once or twice on my logs.

It’s typically under 6500 for the B8.5…and yes 7000 rpm for the B8 in auto, 6750 in manual, on average. Isn’t this old news to everyone?

Someone should go to the strip and shift at 6400 in their B8 to compare. They still would have shorter gearing than the B8.5 though. Those times well_armed did are indeed staggering.

It was hot and crowded.

Hey Arin@APR, when can I expect the CPS system for the facelift?

I’d really like one for the summer season (have 10 more road course events planned)

Doug, good stuff… So only netted a half mph and half tenth with race gas and shittier da… That surprises me and shows how critical da is… Like I mentioned in the other thread glad you are liking the strip!

Doug, After looking at your slips and comparing them closer are you positive you had the car in 100 tune mode? I am not trying to insult you but given the DA change not being that drastic you really should have gone faster especially mph wise… Any thoughts?

DA went from -950 to +200 and he went faster. Clearly something helped. His 60’ times didn’t change. MPH is up.

1.78 vs 1.78
12.20 vs 12.15
113.64 vs 114.18

If you compare 1150 feet vs 0 feet for his 12.15 time, the difference is nominal according to dragtimes. I’m not sure why they lump turbos with potentially MBC in with superchargers with a pulley that is fixed and determines boost. I’ve seen the TVS cars greatly affected by DA.

Extensively Modified Supercharged and Turbocharged Engines
12.114 @ 114.534 MPH

It should also be noted that his 12.1 @ 114 is almost equal to your best stage 1 time Ron, and is almost equal to the GIAC 100 car driven by 1fastS4scammer. So it makes sense.

I was thinking the same thing after the first run, and pulled out the obd reader to double check.

In my experience, race gas is a hp or peak power boost. With my car shifting at 6400, I don’t think it is the game changer most are used to seeing. I think the car has an 11.999 run in her, just need it to be cold and not so crowded. It was hard trying to avoid heat soak tonight. AMD was icing/faning their car for 30 minutes in between runs.

Strip is fun and satisfies my need for speed. With the newborn here, sneaking out at night is a little easier than taking a full day at the track.

what like with a big plug in dyno fan?

Leaf blower.

I’m kidding.
