B8 S4 headers bank or bust?

Hey, why not. Do whatever you can to make the car happy. They’re a shop trying to set a mark and sell product.

Reminds me of this:

Leaf blower is an awesome way to cool your car quickly, I’m not kidding. I’ve done it and watched temps before (hot car without rad fan sitting and idling)

Dragtimes shows -712 on may 1 at 753 pm Doug said -526 on the the 8th it shows 194 same as Doug quoted so its a smaller difference than you mentioned… Yes mph and ET are slightly improved but it should be better IMO…

As for the comparison to my car, sure it’s close ET wise but remember I was on apr tune (v1 at that), strat intake, and catback only… Mph wise I trapped 116.8 in a worse da… I ran a tenth better ET only… I had no lw wheels, brakes, or headers comared to doug… Also, i was on gt260 vs ms109, all though i think gt260 is better its lower octane… His short shifts kill him!

As for some of the corrections on dragtimes, yeah they aren’t so good… Lol

What time are you basing that on from last week? I think that’s the difference. The o ly slip that showed the time showed close to 9 pm I think. Have another look.

May 1st @8:26pm (between -712 @7:53 and -964 @8:53, so lets average the two and call it -838)
Corrected: 12.231 @ 113.512 MPH

May 8th @8:42pm (-81)
Corrected: 12.125 @ 114.57 MPH

I was rapidly getting faster as I did more passes – so another thing that might have played was the ECU adapting to the new mapping. (when I first got there, I ran a 12.34 but I lost that sheet).

It is my opinion that race gas isn’t that big of a game changer for 2013 DSG cars – as we shift super early in second @6278 and in third @6385 – I never climb high enough into the RPMs to take advantage of the extra peak HP it provides. Basically the .3 net might not be there – maybe closer to .2 for B8.5’s. But I will try and go another time later this month when the temps and DA drop closer to my first runs. I will also run race gas in the car for the entire week prior, making sure to run at least 100 miles on the car before I enter the gates.

Found my first slip in pocket tonight as I was doing laundry lol

Thanks for posting up times Doug! I know you had hoped for better, but I think your overall assessment is accurate. Will be nice to see if a TCU tune could help. Nice times either way.

I honestly think it has more in her, but we will find out. Low 12’s is the goal. If I can do that with the SS (short shifter), I will be pleased. I think my pump times already solved the thread title, the headers will be crowned just “bank.”

I am trying to get Neal with the APR S2 to come out an go head to head. We did it on a dyne, but of course the strip will only satisfy the AR crew lol

^^ yes, get Neal to go. Tell him I said so lol ;D

He will probably not like the quarter mile. There are a bunch of those booky guys who think they’re above it.

What’s a booky guy?

nerds and pussies who think the dragstrip is beneath them somehow, and that the car was built for the road course. There is this level of snobbery about some of the road racing superstars who think they are god’s gift to driving. Then we see pictures of them at a track day where they run for 15 minutes with an instructor holding their hand. Seriously…this is what you’re being snobby about? These are almost always the same guys who can’t get their car down the dragstrip without stalling it at the starting line or missing shifts or taking a full second to engage the next gear. They’re often ham fisted fatsos with no feel whatsoever.

To them though, everytime Audi designers sat down to plan out the S4, all they thought about was taking it to Infineon and flogging the 4000 lb, nose heavy, 4 door sedan. IT’S IN ITS DNA MAN!

Jeremy Clarkson put it best. Audis are made for German cement salesmen.

They are autobahn stormers and are pretty good at a few things. They are no track day superstars though, and anyone who is serious about the roadcourse will know that while they are competent out there, it is absolutely not in the car’s DNA.

I’m a road course guy for sure. But I don’t discount the quarter mile either.

Quarter mile is a measure of acceleration. Road course is an overall measure of the handling and performance of the car.

I think quarter mile is a measure of acceleration, and road course is a fun execise. I don’t think it’s measuring much in the format these guys participate. They’re not doing time attack laps. They’re just out having fun, and that’s great. I just don’t get the snobbery.

It’s like the guy wants to make sure you know what he paid for his shoes. There’s a huge amount of hollow emptiness in that person/those people that they’re trying to fill.

That’s quite the indictment of the people who enjoy track days and don’t like the drag strip. I think they’re both intimidating. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to try out a road course (with an instructor there to prevent me from t-boning a wall of course) and overcome the intimidation factor just like I did at the drag strip. I don’t have enough of an ego to shit on one versus the other.

There’s a good deal of road course snobbery on quattrofail. I had a blast at my road course event but won’t be doing it again with my car. The cost involved to do three or four events a year can be quite high. Not worth it for me. And even with an instructor in the car, there’s no way to prevent a horrible crash. Sometimes shit happens.

Agreed.

Would love to do a road course but not with a DD… especially my DD.

I’ll stick to karting until I can afford a nice GT3.

A friend of mine who is quite talented races a Viper ACR-X in the Viper Cup. Absolute monsters. Faster than the ACR which is currently the 4th fastest production car around the Nurburgring.

Watch him (red with black stripe) battle it out starting at 19:20… Ends up winning at Sebring. I believe he has won at least 2, podiumed several others.

Oh don’t get me wrong, which you have somehow managed to do lol. If someone doesnt like the strip, that’s totally fine. Read the full post… It is an indictment of the douchebags who look down their noses at the drag strip and belittle it. Generally out of fear. You don’t find too many guys who can bang gears and are fast who will do that.

Clochner knows what I’m talking about.

That’s awesome, Ken!! Great video. We need to set up a kart GTG with the chi-town guys. And I could probably find a few more non-forum guys who would be interested.
