You can’t say that there’s a validity concern because he has different taste in winters than you. Especially when you then try to say running race gas is normal. Just about nobody runs race gas year round on a 4 door family sedan. I know of 2. On earth. (you and primetime)
So if you want to talk about street trim it’s street wheels/tires, full interior, and pump gas.
If you want to talk about your own unique idea of street trim (full interior, 19s, but race gas) that’s not something you can impart on others.
But you say it is normal for you. Ok. Well he runs 17s and winter tires 5 months a year, and to me that’s a lot more normal than saying you run race gas year round.
By most people’s definition, neither of you ran street trim based on the fuel alone. So it’s just an open shot at the title. And he won it.
Just out of curiosity, since we’re on the topic of what mods constitute “fair play”, what do you guys think about tires? Would running any DOT legal tire be considered a “street tire”? I know Jeff says he can spin all wheels during a launch, so wondering how much R-comp tires would help.
I believe R-comps were loosely designed to be a compromise between ultra-high performance summer tires, and full out race slicks…would allow one to drive to/from the track/strip without needing to trailer or swap. The only question I have is whether you’d see the bene-fit from these tires at the strip. Usually they take a few laps to bring up to temp from all accounts I’ve seen.
You ran catless. The car has stock downpipes and cats.
You ran in -993 da vs +850 da when I ran the car. +1800 da swing. Huge. Temps were 35F per dragtimes for you vs low 60s for us.
The car sat for 3 hrs. Had one run before. Barely adapted. 1/4 tank of gas. I don’t know if you hot lapped.
Just go out and beat the time lol.
I’ll be out there in a few weeks when the DA is very good. We will be going to Atco next, which is a known faster track. Hopefully the muscle car guys have shut it down for the season and we can actually hot lap the car and get a better time.
Jeff should be coming too. We can finally put an end to the headers debate with a good head to head.
I run Generals that cost 300 bucks. Get the tire pressure right and spinning won’t be an issue. This car doesn’t need R-comps or any other types of special tires.
I start at 40 and just take out until it feels right. Usually pretty close after 1 run. Like sunday I only did 3 runs. First run was 11.66 followed by 11.58 and last run was 11.70 with a botched launch.
For everyone that’s attacking me now, please reread what I said. I was commenting on what jzpazz said that everyone will now want to get 17’s. I said that I wouldn’t do that because I only care what my car runs stock. I did not say that he took his interior out. That was done by someone a while ago. I didn’t discredit his time, I only stated I do. I already congratulated him on his time. I don’t care if you do run 17" winters all year long. I just wouldn’t. And as I stated before it’s just my opinion. I only put that I use race gas all year long so someone wouldn’t call me out on that.
Saki what is wrong with you? Why are you Always looking to blast people? Relax…life is too short
If you are putting something on your car for the 1/4 mile only, you’re not street
i.e. a Michelin Cup tire or anything similar…these are not street tires. So you’re trying to fool yourself.
There’s 2 schools on 1/4 mile times.
a measurement of the ulitmate performance a car can achieve, no rules
a measurement of what an actual car you drive in your everyday life can achieve (fulll interior, street tires that won’t kill you if it rains, full exhaust, regular everyday pump gas)
For me, I don’t care for #1 for 1 simple reason…I’m not a 1/4 mile competitor. I’m an Audi owner. I am there to see how fast my car goes relative to stock…not relative to a stripped, race gas, slick tire version of my car, because I don’t care about that and will never come across that car on the highway, or in normal life. If it were up to me, we wouldn’t have any race gas times on the quarter mile list etc. I don’t see the relevance/point. Fortunately you can easily eliminate the race gas cars by typing <95 in the filter field of the Octane column.
If you run a 1/4 mile time and accelerate at a rate that is the same rate their car could accelerate 2 weeks later when you’re on the way home from work and race a Mustang on the highway, you’re probably in street trim. You aren’t going to get an offer to race and then yell out the window…
‘HOLD ON MAN! LET ME GO HOME AND PUT MY OTHER WHEELS ON…AND LET ME DRAIN MY 93 OUT SO I CAN PUT IN 5 LITERS OF 110…THEN WE’LL RUN! OH…AND I HAVE TO PULL OFF MY CATBACK AND PULL MY INTERIOR OUT FIRST TOO!’
You gave your opinion on wheels…it sounded like you were ACTUALLY saying
“I’m in 4th place now, so I’m going to say that this time is bullshit because you have 17” wheels on"
That’s what EVERYONE on the site thought when they read your post .
I then showed (from an impartial, non-B8 perspective) that your comment is silly because you’re trying to argue he’s not in ‘street’ trim…while trying to pre-empt criticism about your own non-street runs because you had race gas by saying ‘I always run race gas’.
I clarified what most people consider ‘street’. I blasted nobody. But now I will.
Quit being a sour grapes little bitch, and go get the fucking title back.
The M3 guy was running Mickey Thompsons at 18 PSI. I’m quite struck by how well these ECU’s respond to fuel in excess of 100 octane.
Anyway, hold your criticism off until I give it another try with a $250 tank of MS109. The cult of drag racing is a bit different than the welcoming track day comraderie I’m used to, in which you try to help beginners instead of making them go away.
why…do you need a whole tank? Because you want the extra 80 lbs of weight? Just run your pump gas low to 5 miles to empty or whatever, and put 5-10 liters of 109 in
Hey west, want some help?
contact JHM and ask them when they’re going to the Sacramento raceway next time
ask Dan or Jason to give you some pointers
redeem your name. I would love to put a nice time up on the list with your name on it, just to annoy everyone lol
As for the cult of drag racing…I agree the at-the-track dragstrip people can seem a bit standoffish, but it’s mostly because they think ‘rich ass hole in an Audi’…when in reality they have $60,000 in their SRT8 Jeep, and your Audi including mods, cost $55,000 lol.
but the standoffish reactions you got on an Audi board are because you were already a bit of a stubborn fuck, and also because most of them don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about when it comes to making afast dragstrip pass. We have a thread here full of tips for beginners. They…don’t.
West - no one here is trying to make you go away. In fact, we want you to go back to the dragstrip, run a couple decent times, and then post your results, time slips, and videos right here on AR. Then sak will add you to the most comprehensive database of Audi 1/4 mile times: http://audirevolution.net/quartermile/
You’re a beginner - so what? You’ve come to the right place for advice. Anyone on here would be happy to help you out.
A lot has changed since that one time I made an ill prepared 1/4 run. Stronger clutch and flywheel. Revo pulley. Lighter wheel/tire combo. I anticipate a better result, and I know what fuel I need (I’ll probably start firing a 5 gallon can of this into the tank before each circuit track day). Should be able to do a Sonoma drag in December or January.
Is there a place in Norcal to buy MS109, or just hazmat mail order?
