Thank goodness for this thread. I have the same exact car that badger has, even the same color. I am starting my timing components job this weekend.
If I could ask a couple of questions about the technical steps used to remove the tiptronic transmission from the engine…
What do you guys recommend using to lift the transmission while separating it from the engine, and moving it over to its own stand/blocks of wood? I assume it weighs a few hundred pounds, and requires the engine hoist with straps, instead of the chains used on the engine/transmission assembly?
Which parts of this job are going to require a helper? My wife is my assistant mechanic for me, so I hope she doesn’t need to lift anything heavy. Perhaps she just needs to help during the actual removal/re-installation of the assembly from the car, making sure that things align correctly? And also during the Tiptronic separating and re-mating?
I really appreciate the advice given to badger in this thread, and would doubly appreciate answers to my questions. I will probably start my own thread once I begin.
