badtoyz build thread.

I finished the wifes truck the other night and pushed my car in. the washer fluid in my truck stopped working all together and upon inspection the tank was full of all this blue shit, like paint chips. I had to take the whole system out and blow everything out buy a new pump and wash the tank out but it works wonderfully now.

I was hoping to get back at my car but from now until the 26th I have some kind of event to be at every night so its not looking good. I ordered an a4 light to steal all the bits out of. I doubt that will even come in until the new year just because of Christmas.

just a quick update guys.

im having trouble finding anytime to sleep let alone work on the car. I wasn’t expecting to be so busy this year. I took on a few paying projects that are kicking my ass plus when it snows im out plowing. I haven’t even touched the car since the 21st of December. if I can get a solid day in I can have the car finished and now that its been so long im gonna be screwed trying to remember what goes where. this is the first time ive pulled the car apart so I don’t even have any experience to rely on.

nabz.zw and I have been chatting back and forth and he has finished the supercharger install on his car. he had a couple hiccups after installation (o2s, vac leak) nothing serious. and he is reporting back a massive butt dyno power increase.

I think I may let the guys at foreign auto here in Kitchener do my clutch as I just don’t have the time. ill do it myself once I burn it out. we’ll see if I can wrap up some of my work.

I received my new headlight that im gonna steal the lens and chrome parts out of but I haven’t even opened the box yet.

so that’s where im at if anyone was wondering.

with the supercharger completed im moving on to a few aesthetic changes. ive ordered the aero function cf hood. I know weve had mixed feelings on the look here but I really like it. I realize the weight savings is not a lot over the stock aluminum one but like I said I like the look and if it saves me a couple pounds then great also.

the aero function hood comes with the vents sealed but u can choose to cut them out yourself. should I or shouldn’t I? also would like to hear opinions on painting it or leaving it cf. im leaning towards painting it. I need my rear bumper painted anyway so it will get paint sometime this year.

Love that hood! Great choice. I vote paint it and leave the vents unpainted, exposed CF. I believe there were a couple of guys who cut the vents out and made a separate detachable tray. So you could attach it in case it rains and whatnot or take it off and let it breathe. I can’t remember who it was though, maybe koolade9 or nnnick. Anyways, in for pictures.

it’s nice and quiet on a black car. Are you going to sell the aluminium one? Is your car brilliant black or phantom black?

Paint it. I hate what the sun does to carbon fiber.

im phantom black. I think I am going to paint it and for now leave the holes closed unless anyone can give me a good argument to do otherwise. to cut them out and make them look perfect will take forever with a little file and honestly I just want to drive my car I don’t want to wait anymore.

I damaged my aluminum hood which is mostly the reason im doing this. im pretty fucking heartbroken about it actually. gust of wind blew it back bending it and cracking my windshield. lets just leave it at its fucked.

FYI there is only 1 rs4 hood available in north America and its 1700 bucks.

I hear the fitment of the aero hood is spot on which is why I chose them over seibon or other less expensive hoods.

If it was brilliant black you could easily sell it to b7 a4 or s4 guys but I don’t think they had phantom. If it wasn’t damaged I mean.

Bummer about that. Happened to another guy on a racetrack and caused $30,000 in damage. His was carbon fibre actually.

mine will probably be around 5k after everything is said and done. I pulled the car out of the garage and I haven’t installed the hood latch. went to use the bathroom and came back to it folded over the windshield. it was windy yesterday but never in my wildest dreams would I have expected that. went from happy as shit the car was tuned and running to almost crying.

that’s INSANE

insurance? it’s probably part of comprehensive. Shouldn’t affect rates.

Sorry to hear about the hood damage. The carbon hood looks cool tho. I would paint it but I would also make the passenger side vent functional. It will really help with the supercharger

yes its definitely upsetting. and now aero doesn’t have the hood in stock. they called today to tell me its on backorder for at least a month. that just wont do and they could tell I was upset so they offered me the hood in fibreglass at half price. so im getting it in fibreglass now. its 3 pounds heavier than cf and they said it woul be here in 5 days. so its def being painted now.

my concern about cutting the holes is water. my car is garage stored but what about when im out driving?

im not bothering with insurance, I don’t want them to know its supercharged now. also I had 2 no fault claims last year and I don’t want my rates to change. I know it shouldnt when its no fault but u never know with those fucks.

Yes, the problem I have always has with the vented hoods is water incursion on the engine. Could lead of all sorts of electrical problems.

let me get the hood on the car and think about it. if I decide to cut the holes out that could be something I could do over next winter.

anyone else have the holes cut out and had water issues?

Probably apples to oranges… but I owned a 2005 STi which comes not only with a massive hole in the hood, but a scoop to force air in! I owned that car for nearly 11 years, half of which with an aftermarket intercooler and hood scoop splitter. Never had a single issue with water.

This. Put in a claim for sure. Wind damage 100% falls under comprehensive. I wouldn’t worry about your insurance knowing your supercharged as its not the appraiser’s job to report if the car is modified or not. They are just there to look at the damage.

At my shop we had a car towed in over a weekend with front end damage causing the hood to not latch. It was windy enough to blow the hood open, break the hinges, smash the w/s and send the hood across the parking lot into another vehicle. The insurance company treated it as a separate comp claim and covered the whole thing.

Expect to pay WAY above what your thinking. I bought that hood and ended up selling it because i was way over budget and it was a bigger pain in the ass then i wanted to deal with.

There is no where for you to mount your windwhield washing hardware (Hell there really isnt any hardware with the kit at all. Just the latch).

Its NOT CF. Its fiberglass with a layer of CF. When you make the cuts the hood will detach and come apart and bow. We cut the center vent and it came apart and hung down. We didnt even try to the side vents and after mounting it we noticed its right over the coil packs anyways.

It ran Way over my budget and time so i decided to sell. Obviously with the right amount of time and money it can be done because it has been done a few times before. Just know it wont be simple. UNLESS you plan on not cutting the vents, Then you still have the mounting of the hardware issue (including the bump stops to align it right).

well that’s really discouraging. I hope I don’t have all the issues you had. other reviews on the hood have been awesome. and if its just a carbon fibre layer over top why is the carbon hood 3 pounds lighter than the fibre glass? I have ordered it and its on its way. ill have to look at what u mean for the washer fluid stuff.

this is the link to the review that really sold me on the hood. theres no mention of washer fluid issues.

I had the windshield done today. one of my best friends works at GO glass so I had him do it for me and he used his staff discount. altogether it was 318 tax in and installed. would have been cheaper if it didn’t have the rain sensor.

the clutch is also done now. mine was almost done but not nearly as bad as others ive seen. the power increase must be substantial to make that clutch slip so easily. or maybe the pressure plate is just tired.

shes coming along, im gonna go in on Monday to help with the short shifter adjustment. I wanna get it just perfect.

RS4 hood

done

alternatively you could find a black A4 hood at a wrecker. It will be ‘brilliant black’ though, so it iwll look funny. Could be a good stop gap. Weighs 50 lbs or so.
