badtoyz build thread.

Yep, go with a stock RS4 hood and push it through insurance. Save weight elsewhere.

You could make up the weight difference between a stock hood and carbon fiber…by taking a good DUMP

I always make a beeline for the washroom when I get to the track. I then take a second trip once I’m ready to make some passes.

^^^^lmao. ya weights not the concern here. iirc correctly it was 3 pounds difference between the aluminum hood and the cf. the only way to save more is to get a single layer hood which is pretty flimsy, ive already had one hood fly up on me so im not going that route. I like the look of the aero hood and its cheaper than stock so im waiting for it. june 26th is when they are supposed to be in. so realistically middle of july.

I know that review from Nick. Ive spoken to him and brettanica extensively because i know they have had the hood. Im just giving you first hand experience.

Just letting you know the second you make a cut on that hood there is NO going back. i was pretty pissed to see the hood come apart as it did when it was cut and called the company and complained about it being misleading in the photos and description (about how it wasnt CF but only a layer). They told me the hood is NOT MEANT TO BE CUT.

At that point i sold it and was done with it. I couldve probably made it work like i wanted, but it would have been alot more than i anticipated and decided to move on.

Good to know Eddie. That’s kinda a big thing if you want a functional hood.

Not sure if this is any help, but:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/653772-B7-A4-S4-RS4-Vorsteiner-Vented-Carbon-Fiber-Hood

Does that guy actually own an rs4 that this was installed on?

He says 50% lighter than steel a4 / s4 hood. Those weigh 50 lbs. Then he says significantly lighter than the RS4 aluminium hood…which weighs about about 25 lbs.

Seems he’s confused. I don’t get the impression he has ever installed one of these.

FYI this is the same hood that flew back and obliterated mickf29’s (Mick Flanagan I believe) car 3 years ago.

Remember when it happened at the racetrack while going some 200 kmh…posted about it online, shared a video that we all saw…then deleted all traces of that and went on a crusade to pin liability on Vorsteiner by lying and saying this happened during normal driving on a highway.

What a toolbox. It was a $25,000 repair and it sounds like he got away with an attempted fraud. What’s with those northwest guys and their insurance jobs?

Wow first im hearing of this kind of incident. OP if you want this type of hood GET THAT ONE! Vents are all cut and looks to be pretty easy to swap over.

+1

So many better places to spend the money, IMHO. Especially when insurance will cover the damage with an OEM replacement

and it’s 1200 miles away, pick up only

IF he wanted to buy it, its not far from me. I would pick it up and ship to him. I get a discount on shipping as well. (though not sure how much and what not but i its usually anywhere between 20-50%).

shipping that thing with insurance on the full value (which you would need) would cost him about $500-750 conservatively lol. This factors in taxes, duties etc.

Lets say its 500 bucks. So for 1700 he gets that hood or for 1200 he gets a hood that he needs to cut holes into and do further work on it. IDK just saying its an option.

good point. I’m really saying for $500 he would get new aluminium RS4 hood, new windshield, perfect paint…aka his deductible.

seems like no matter which way I slice it its going to cost about the same. im going to stick with aero for now unless maybe I can get ahold of that hood. I was kind of thinking about hood pins in the aero one and that will be an extra cost as well so wiith them already being done it might save me a couple hundred. eddie if you are willing to grab it for me that would be awesome and much appreciated id have to western union you the cash. ill try and get ahold of this guy and see whats up.

btw guys im not just ignoring the insurance recommendations but ive already got the windshield in and I really have my heart set on this hood I love the way it looks so im using this unfortunate turn of events to get something else done that I want on my car. btw my deductible is 300 lol.

I pmd the vorsteiner hood. hopefully we can come to an agreement.

When you see cool stuff like the hood it’s hard to get that look out of your mind.

Got reply on the hood. waiting to see if Eddie will grab it and ship as this guy has local interest and really doesn’t wanna ship. I’m going to offer more than asking price soon as he has a guy wanting to leave a deposit and then pick it up at the end of the month. I want this hood!

I imagine he’s having a tough time selling it so I’d offer him 1000 or so and that will be it.

How many people want a carbon fibre hood? Not many

How many people who want a carbon fibre hood are also going to Philadelphia to pick one up? Even less.

How many people who want a Cf hood, and are willing to drive to Philly to pick it up also actually have the money to do so?

Almost nobody

As I said get an a4 hood from a parts place/wrecker and then take your time finding what you really want
