badtoyz build thread.

Does anyone have any input on the o2 sensors I know I’m not the only one burning through them. And they look fine to me when they come out. I’ve had various codes mostly heating circuit but this one failed completely as if it wasn’t even plugged in. No communication.

Man you are still having o2 problem’s. … Crosby has no answers or solutions at all?

well its replaced again under warrantee so far no problem but ive only driven the car like 15km.

where did u order your rims from tioga. I’m looking for wheels.

Do you ever leave the ignition on without the car running?

Hey man, I meant to replay sooner. I replaced all 4 of my o2 sensors a few months ago and it already ate B1S2. I replaced it under warranty a few weeks ago so we’ll see how it goes.

I do this. Is this bad? :-[

I’m pretty sure he’s alluding to it here:

I was just thinking out loud when I asked but…

The o2s should only turn on when the fuel pump relay is on (motor running). Essentially you want the engine to start and blow all the moisture out of the exhaust prior to the o2 heating element coming to temp. Otherwise you risk fouling it. This is typically an explicit warning on aftermarket wideband o2 sensors. On this car, perhaps they’re on with ignition (can someone verify?). Combine that with the humid climate you live in and you’ve got just the recipe for fouled o2s.

what do you do it for? Can’t think of a time I’ve done this

Interesting… This might explain why I’ve lost about 4 sensors due to water contamination on rear 02 on bank 1.

I don’t sit there for long periods of time, but full VCDS scans take 5+ minutes and ignition needs to be on. I’ve been testing my nexus 7 dash setup quite a bit which has involved a fair amount of ignition on/engine off time. If I’m driving I crank it as soon as I get in the car.

Assuming the o2s are indeed on with the ignition. I would say don’t start the car after having it on like that. Let it cool down for a few minutes. It doesn’t take too long for the o2 to drop back to ambient temp.

When you key up the car the 02s go into warm up mode. Or so I have seen about a year ago I was testing my 02s to make sure they were not bad. If you get a rear 02 code for lean code it usually means the 02 is dead as the 02s die with a short to lean code.

If you do key up the car and its wet out or high humidty this can be an issue. If you have ever looked at your car on start up lots of cars will spill out water from the tail pipe. This same water comes from the exhaust and the combustion. That water can follow out the 02s. If you start the car and dont drive the car long enough to bring the 02s up to maintanence cleaning temps that will greatly shorten the life of the 02s. Espically in the winter months or with a fresh code clear of the ECU. Cold temps make the car run very rich on start up to help warm up the motor and the cats. This can create even more moisture in the exhaust and the cold start rich condition will carbon up the 02s. Driving the car long enough to heat up and burn off the excess is part of cleaning the 02s. The spark plugs work on the same princeiple. They need to be brought up to temp to clean them off.

Just wanted to put out some things I have seen. it might be a good idea to make a specific thread on this

Ya i hear ya… thru Crosby right? i got one thats still out i was going to wait till spring to do it. i very rarely drive my in winter but shit this winter has been pretty nice haha clean roads vs the other winters :stuck_out_tongue:

The wheels i got on the RS4 i got from a car buddy he had them on for one summer and then i bought them off him and got them to fit.
Depending on what kind of wheels your looking for… from Euro, USA, or Japan let me know and i can direct you to different good shops that sell new wheels. Or i know a good guy in Cambridge that could help you source out some good used wheels. Cause you want light lighttt wheels for your setup.

Cant wait for spring track day by then the S3 will have some “stuff” done and i wanna drag a supercharged rs4 for a good comparison

So after fuckin around all winter looking for wheels and not being able to pull the trigger on anything I came across a set of oem rs4 wheels for sale from a member here. I bought them and had them powder coated. Satin bronze and wrapped in Michelin pss. Not sure if i like the center caps now though. Pretty happy with them overall though. I also got a new headlight after trying literally everything to get it unstuck from the all the way up position so I took it apart and took the orange lens off and painted the chrome piece black. Waiting on some ballasts and bulbs cuz I had some flickering last year. Planning on installing the bilsteins in next month and painting the hood.

The car still won’t rev over 7500 but I think I’ve narrowed down to ecus. Gonna try and do a reflash and see if that works if not I think I have to order new ecus.

And the saga continues…lol

Nice man, I like the bronze. I agree though, not sure about the center caps. Maybe color matched with black rings?

Def need to color match the center caps

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I’ll get the local car quest to match the powder coating and paint them bronze and then the rings flat black I think.

I’m sure they’ll be really happy when you tell them to tape off those rings.

The black caps seem to take a lot of attention away from the over all color change. You car looks awesome either way. I dont think you could go wrong.

I meant I’ll get them to make me up a rattle can of colour matched painted. The rings just pop off. And u can paint the background. That’s how I got the background black in the first place.
