Bench racing... spring race lined up... should be interesting...

Bored and sick as a dog with a nasty sinus infection so I figured I would make a bench racing post about a spring race I am going to have…

Anyway, been trading PM’s with the Imolamonster… he made a post a ways back on VWvortex about having the most powerful and fastest B8 in the world… A few of the fine folks corrected him… Well he recently made a post on AZ and AW about his build… I have exchanged a few PM’s with him on AW and he actually seems like a nice younger dude who goes to college in Cleveland and has agreed to race me at Thompson early this spring… His S4 is actually very well modified with APR pulley and tune, Eurocode headers, Stasis non-res exhaust, AWE downpipes, APR stage I and II intake, BBS wheels(says he is going with CCW’s soon) and he is planning the CPS soon… My car has the APR v1.5 tune, pulley, 034 HFC’s, Miltek non-res, custom intake, APR CPS, and BBS wheels… By April I will also have the Stoptech 355BBK and hopefully a larger TB(still waiting on the electronics) and larger diamter intake… I need to talk to Joel at APR about v2 vs the tune I have… If he agrees we will both run Sunoco GT260 and the APR race program… His car is a DSG like mine so this should be a really good comparison of the headers vs HFC’s… Thoughts?

sounds like all he’s got on you is the headers… has he ever raced before? My money would be on you winning consistently

Beem, Yeah that is why I am excited to see the results as it will tell us more about the headers… Not knocking Rich or his results but the 6-speed vs DSG clouds things in comparison… He has been once with the car and ran a 12.50 prior to the headers and I believe on 93 or 94 octane… Agreed I have the experience but don’t want to make this a bracket race, not that you were inffering that is how I would win but if he runs a better ET or mph I will be impressed… Of course I will get all of the runs on vids to share with everyone… Will try to do this on opening day at Thompson 5 weeks from today…

yeah if he out beats your time I’d be shocked, the track prep and knowledge/experience of how to optimize a run should be worth quite a bit.

good to know its a dsg, I was going to ask that… could validate the headers if he runs very well

http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?5454845-ImolaMonster-s-Build-Thread-Current-Worlds-Most-Powerful-S4-(proof-amp-numbers-coming)

just saw that, I get a laugh out of people who do 1 of xx listings

well I’m still not convinced the headers do anything frankly, so it will be interesting indeed. Haven’t seen them put anything down performance wise that makes me think they’re working. Lots of dyno and butt dyno results, but no performance tests that would indicate they’re doing their thing. THis was predicted early on mind you by a few people who understand this stuff far better than me. We’ll see I guess.

primetime I think it will be fun to watch you stop him from making silly threads like that one, but I really don’t think it sounds all that interesting. It’s not like you guys don’t have the same everything (other than headers). Even though you guys have pretty similar cars, I think its going to be a good demonstration of

a) the benefit of knowing how to get the most out of a dragstrip pass
b) some B8 S4s are just not as fast as other ones for whatever reason

I’d like to see your car vs. 1fastS4’s car. And a REVO car with a decat and stuff. And a few other interesting cars like an APR RS4 or a fully JHM’d RS4 or a JHM’d supercharged B6/7. That’s interesting to me. But watching DSG B8 vs. DSG B8 with the same tune = yaaaaawn

p.s. he has BBS CK wheels. They’re heavy as shit and useless.

when I see him making posts like this…
I did one run of 12.500 not bad for a car weighing 4200 pounds
I start to lose interest even more.

When I see him make posts like this
also first time at the strip ever so working on getting the launch and everything right. also track wasn’t as sticky so there was some loss of traction. should be able to have it running low 12’s high 11’s when it hooks
it confirms he is green about performance and the dragstrip. You don’t pick up 6 tenths with ‘better prep’. Just more ‘with XXX it will run XX.X’ b.s. ‘someday’ talk.

Beem, Yeah his post is pretty funny… Like I said he is in college so and has been very nice over PM so I don’t hold it against him… He is just excited and proud of his car… I remember how I was when I got my first Mustang…

Saki, I hear you… I am just excited to race again and find someone with another Audi local that will hit the strip with me so it is what it is… I would much rather race a Revo or GIAC car or a stage III B5 or blown RS4 etc… The two B5 stage III guys that are somewhat local and hit me up last year had things come up so I plan on asking them if they would like to run again… Also, depending on how Patrick(Imolamonster) is I’ll see if he wants to switch cars and make a pass in mine and me one in his… Actually, that is what I hope more than anything because as you and Beem point out he isn’t a vet at the strip so I don’t think he will get the best out of his car… Not trying to sound like the dude at Atco who thought he was gods gift to drag racing but I think my experience with this platform and posted results have at least shown that I have somewhat of a clue… Just trying to have fun and provide some vids for the forums ;D

his 12.5 was done with these mods
APR/Carbonio Stage 1&2 intake
APR Supercharger pulley upgrade
APR Stage 2+ ECU flash with Pulley File
Stasis non-res challenge exhaust
and if I’m not mistaken it was a v1 stage 2 so hold on to your conclusions saki ;D

Hmmm. Primetime, you can chime in with your experience at the track, but for sure the importance of warming up his tires, using a nice low tire pressure and lining up/keeping it on the rubber is essential to getting a 1.7 60’. Not sure how you are getting 1.6s. Share…?

I have been warming up the tires as much as I can, even in the staging lanes when they are empty, and not sitting too long afterwards if the lineup is hopefully short. Avoid the water box, back up to give the longest possible roast of the tires without overshooting the staging beams. I ended up at 32/27 psig, on RE-11s last time, but going through the water box hurt a lot where we were.

Rich, Agreed… Will see how it goes…

Jason, LOL… I am pretty sure you know exactly what to do as you have pretty much outlined it… Keep in mind I am running an intake, HFC’s, exhaust, CPS, and probably lighter wheels than you… The whole having to drive through the waterbox at Atco is bs as most tracks don’t have that situation… So your low 1.7x 60’s would probably be 1.6x with the additional mods… I gauge tire pressure as best as possible and want to run a higher psi as long as I can get the traction which then helps on the big end with less rolling resistance… Obviously, these cars are 60ft monsters so I’ll give up a little mph for a great 60ft time but I want to go as high as possible and it is trial and error really… The psi’s you posted are close to what I would have run at Atco… I shallow stage as shallow as possible and in fact got knocked out in the quarterfinals of bracket racing last year as they claimed I rolled backwards and thus redlighted me… A swift dump of the brakes and hammer of the gas and keep the car straight… I do make sure the tires are clean but don’t try to heat them up to be honest… I also try to line up on the part of the track that all the high HP cars use so I get the benefit of the rubber they laid down, which you also made mention of in your post about your experience at Atco on that other forum… That’s more or less it off the top of my head… 1.6x is pretty good for a 4K sedan… Those are stock GTR range 60’s and leave most cars playing catchup… Imagine what will be able to do launching with some RPM’s :o

that ought to be a 12.25-12.40 @ 112-113 type of modlist. Sounds like he went 12.5-=12.75 @ 109-110

Hmmm, we’ll see next time then…then only time I get the tires too hot is when I’ve been on the road course, but brakes usually wear out first. Track prep at Atco was interesting, like I said, I picked up a LOT of rubber after the burnout box and although it helped there, I’m not sure if it’ll help in normal conditons.

Jeez, yeah some RPMs would be nice. just imagine…

Can I come and race too? I want to race…

Hell yeah… I want to run a stage III B5 more than another B8… I’ll keep you in the loop as we get closer but will be at Thompson almost every Sat. this season… I don’t always bring the Audi so will make sure to coordinate… Here is the link to their site… I plan to be there opening day(April 7th) assuming the weather permits… We can also hit Norwalk once they open in late April as that may be slighly closer for you as I believe you are coming from MI? Like I said I’ll PM you as time draws closer… This will be fun…

The best thing will be all of the cars are imola… My cars paint is Hit in the Face tho
… Looks like Helen Keller squirted it in death valley! But this spring summer in going to repair it and pull the fenders so it should look alright!

Oops I ment two of the cars… For some reason I thought your car was yellow my bad… Maybe I can get my wife to come too see if he can whoop on the most powerful s4 with proof to come! That would be great!
I just need to make more money!

In all reality I am excited to meet and hang out with you guys going to be a fun summer!

Sounds good… Maybe I’ll bring the mustang as well… Gonna need to go pretty low to beat me in that ;D

It’s a lowly 2v 99GT! LOL… It is so modded I can’t remember them all, blown of course… I can list some mods later need to hit a meeting…
