hey guys i am about to do this bg induction service on the s6, has anyone done this and if so what exactly do i need to buy, i work at a dealership ( mercedes ) so i have the equipment, getting the BG ISC and a 44K, do i need just 1 of the induction system cleaner or 2, its 11 oz.
Never heard of it before you mentioned it.
Is that something they use at the Mercedes garage often?
The most beneficial cleaning that I know of for the S6 is the carbon clean of the intake and backside of valves. Have you done that recently?
it was done last year, i have a check engine light on, just trying to do the cheap stuff first, going to try this first since it seems its done on a lot of audis and then i am going to purchase the kit on ecs tuning with coil packs and plugs, hoping that fixes it.
BG is good stuff. I used the service an Fuel Treatment it did seem to help. If you have the equipment to hook the induction cleaner to the rails it should work even better. The 44k is about $30 and the other about $55 if I remember.
got them both for $40
At that price, it is worth a try anyway.
It would probably be best to pull the codes and find out what is causing your CEL. There are a few common issues (outlined in the S6 Info Dump) that seem to effect these cars. Carbon buildup, and the subsequent damage it causes, seem to be the root cause of a lot of problems.
If you post the codes then I am sure the Tech Experts around here will jump in with some advice.
Can you describe what this is and why you’re doing it?
These are the codes, i cleared them and started the car and for the first time the car noticeably misfired CEL Blinking, shut the car off turn it back on it was better with a steady CEL on. The car drives okay to me but the light is on, so I want to do the BG service then change plugs/coil packs since its not that expensive. Any ideas?

I am not an expert, but it looks like all the misfires are on one bank. Maybe you have a HPFP or filter issue.
Wait for the experts to comment.
J644 module
The control unit for energy management J644 is a continuous Monitoring the battery. It verifies the Battery state of charge (SOC State of Charge)
and starting ability. The control unit controls the optimum charging voltage of the generator with the engine running. It can load shedding
Perform (Consumer reduction) and the idle speed increases. around To reduce quiescent current with the engine OFF can the control unit for energy management in Extreme case CAN priority devices. Thus, a low battery avoided.
Do you ever get a low battery or problems starting?
This.
Also the codes are helping. There is a good chance you have a vac leak.
I agree with the vacuum or intake leak as well. Lots of lean codes and being that lean could cause a misfire. Check the simple stuff to make sure no air is getting in the intake tubes after the MAF
It sounds like he is going to use the pressurized fuel system cleaner. That part of the system works great on FSI engines for cleaning the high pressure fuel pumps, rail, and injectors.

The other portion of the service where the air intake system cleaner is sprayed into the intake does not do basically anything for a FSI engine. It works great for the older MPI engines like the S4 in the picture above. The carbon buildup is too hard and stuck in place to come off on a FSI engine unless you pull the intake manifold and manually scrub/blast with walnut shells.
I agree that those codes signal a vacuum leak. I would try spraying starter fluid around the engine to see if the rpms raise from idle.
So, since the misfires seem to be all on one side of the engine (cylinders 6,7,8,9,10) are you guys guessing that the vac leak is between the intake manifold and the Bank 2 cylinder head? Or where else could it be to only effect the one side?
hey that photo is exactly what i will do very soon.
I did a vacuum test and nothing was found ill do one again.
o2 sensor? Not sure just a guess. I would generally expect a code related to weak 02 signal, but not always.

Check the 02s. Try swapping the 02s from one side to the other or just get new ones if they are really old. We have seen 5 different cases where on the rs4 and some A4 FSI cars where if they had bank related issues that replacing the 02s fixed the issue. Normally you would expect to get a code for a bad 02 but that just wasn’t happening. But replacing the 02s fixed the misfires. I would say give it a shot.
I think the o2s require engine drop
The upper ones do, but I think you can access the lower ones without a drop.
If you have to get to the back of the engine, then you probably want to look at cat and o2 relocation, plus a tune. If you have to do that work for whatever reason, PM me and Ill give some options.

these look very familiar to what i had, ‘too lean’ and the misfires at four-five cylinders.
good news, this is fixable.
bad news, you will need a new engine - or at least that’s how i resolved my issue.
a couple of gouges were found in the chamber, and luckily, i was still under warranty.
these are the things that were done to assess the issue for my S6:
- checked and confirmed intake manifold leak. replace manifold. “Bank 1 intake manifold is leaking air… sealing surface uneven.”
- replaced three (misfiring) fuel injectors
- oil filter canister seals leaking oil. replace oil filter canister seals.
- found carbon buildup on the intake valves. perform carbon cleaning.
Cost: About $5k
…CEL came back on a month later
- coolant found in oil
- deep gouges found in cylinder wall
- replaced oil cooler
- replaced long block assembly
- coil and spark plug replaced for misfiring cylinder
- found valve cover gasket leaking oil into spark plug hole
- replaced valve cover gasket
…CEL is still on
- replace engine (here’s the part number per my invoice in case anyone needs to ref: 07L-100-031-AX)
Cost: $25k
forgot to mention, this is for a 07 S6 with only 55k miles.
this is a great forum. i hope my experience helps fellow owners.
this is a wonderful car.
