BOOM! B8 S4 record is mine again ;)

So we finally were able to do a track rental with all our buddies before the end of the season…

We hit up Atco today to finally attempt to hot lap the S4 for the first time…

The car: 2013 B8.5 S4 DSG

Mods: GIAC Stage 2, GIAC DSG Flash, AWE Pulley, APR CPS w/o Pump, AWE Catback, Roc Euro Intake, JHM LW Rotors, 46LB 18" winter wheels with 245/40/18 Continental DWS

Driver: The STIG aka Tsivas the Jockey lol (182lbs as of this morning)

Since we pretty much had the track to ourselves and could do whatever we wanted we experimented a ton with a few different things. We did about 15 passes in total, not sure the exact setup on all the passes but i do know the two fastest most important setups. IIRC slowest pass of day was an 11.70 lol. Not too shabby.

Started with an 11.546@119.08 with a 1.676 60’ then got the record 11.462@120.03 with a 1.669 60’ followed by an 11.469@120.17 with a 1.681 60’.

This setup was as stated above, without a spare tire and jack and without the front passenger seat installed. The runs on MS109 (105 Octane) on GIAC 104 File.

We did a few more runs with this setup, also tinkered with tire pressure through the day. All these runs were done in left lane also. Seemed like both lanes were running similar, but right lane had better prep, didn’t seem like we had a problem with traction so as long as we were able to chose a lane we stuck with the left.

Later on in the day after eating about 9 slices of pizza lol, we decided to throw the front seat back in, left the spare and jack out still and do a few more passes.

First run out after the car sat for over an hour was a 11.494@120.24 with a 1.718 60’. I was shocked that the seat only made that much of a difference, especially since it has to weigh like 65-70lbs. The two following passes after that were 11.556@118.85 with a 1.675 60’ (dropped the tire pressure with hopes of better results, however all we saw was a better 60’ ET and trap both dropped), third run was identical specs to second run with an 11.563@119.52 with a 1.713. The last two passes were in right lane… I’m thinking that had a little to do with the slight drop in trap but could just be the car also.

So anyways i think that just about sums it up. So the seat being removed didn’t make a difference at all really. I got my goal and slipped into the 11.4x in both trims and the car overall just ran like a champ. Not one hiccup all day. Really makes me miss my B8, but hey wasn’t a bad day for the S3 either, snatched the record for that car too  11.923@115.06. That car only has a tune, downpipe, FMIC, and VWR intake. Nothing else. Not bad for about 2k in mods.

Pics of slips coming in few minutes along with a few videos. DA ranged from -500 to -200 throughout the DA. Temp stayed in the mid to upper 50s.

Neat.

So you neither drove nor own the car… Remind us how the record is yours again?

What’d the other cars run?

And what’d that rs7 break?

Haha its all in the family

I think me and Tsiv drive the car more than my pops lol…

RS7 broke an axle from what I’m hearing. Other 2 RS7’s weren’t running too awesome. Both on LW 20s, both on R888, one APR S2+ other was Uni S1. Both running 10.6-10.9 at 129-133.

Congrats

I drove a buddy’s RS5. It has an AWE catback exhaust for sound but otherwise is completely stock. The AWE catback is the same size as the stock exhaust (2.5") and it doesn’t really add any power.

Once I figured out to put it into dynamic mode and use launch control, I ran a 12.504 et @ 110.5 mph and a 12.605 et @ 109.79. I am car number 1.

It was great to meet everyone. Pete, Tsivas27, Steve, and even ran into 91GL too.

Jimmy great runs and it was a pleasure meeting you

Pete, do you think the season is over for you guys in your area?

Also, if you don’t mind me asking. What do they charge for the track rental?

Cheers

Hey, It was a great time guys. Very nice to meet some of the guys in here and Pete cars are running great congrats. Jimmy it was definitely a pleasure and message me when you get back up to one of the tracks again. Tsivas your definitely a class act bro cheers. I’ll be posting some slips up also had a couple of good runs and some not so good due to tranny short shifting 2-3 and 3-4 after a couple of consecutive runs but V3.1 took care of the timing and boost issues.

Congrats on the times, great job, what gas were you running in the S3? I saw AZ was at the track with theirs they only ran a 12.4 at 108.8x they didn’t mention what gas they were on either. That car moves with so little in mods.

Pete/Tsivas, Like I said on facepage, congrats! Very nice times!

Few thoughts/?'s…

How’d you launch? LC or not…
Surprised by the 60’s as I’d thought they’d be much better… 18’s causing you to shift early maybe?
Thought the traps would be slightly higher, not that they’re bad but thought you’d be in the 121 range, guess the crank pulley probably adds 1-2mph…
DA was -476 when you made the record pass. The killer thing about your DA is the air pressure was very high at 30.44 which really helps based on my experience. Not to mention with the track at sea level you had good temps to help keep the track warm…

Breaking down your best pass vs mine it’s really interesting to see how much time you make up between the 60-330 mark…

        Ron Tsivas Delta

60ft 1.605 1.669 +.064 et
330ft 4.803 4.787 -.016 et
1/8et 7.4141 7.362 -.0521 et
1/8mph 94.63 95.30 +.67 mph
1000ft 9.6381 9.581 -.0571 et
1/4et 11.504 11.462 -.042 et
1/4mph 123.13 120.03 - 3.10 mph

So you’re slower to 60, have me slightly by 330, grow the lead a little by the 1/8 and have mph, gain a little more at the 1000ft, but give a little back by the 1/4 but still a nice margin, however 3+ mph less trap…

I think my shift hangups are hurting my ET compared to your’s along with the 500ft of DA but the crank pulley is really helping my car on the top end and mph…

All around great stuff and glad you guys made it out and had a good time… Looking forward to seeing some vids… Thanks for sharing and great stuff!

Nice seeing you down there bro-

What was ur best time of day? Seemed like you ran consistent and really good for pump. BTW those HRE’s are pimp, forgot to tell you in person. Lol.

Awesome day. Always nice to meet forum guys. Jimmy and Stefanos are cool dudes. Jimmy is just like I had imagined him. Laid back chill dude. Awesome of him to drive that far to do some car stuff. Wish he was closer to service all my cars. Also took me half the day to figure out where I had met Moogas before lol. Very focused/dedicated on his car’s performance. He didn’t want me to fiddle with anything to get that .001 second to get into the 11s on pump.

Day was a struggle for me to find decent traction/ without sacrificing the top end with air pressures.

Track prep wasn’t the best for the left lane apparently and the fast 8-9 second cars had the right lane which looked like it had extra prep put into it. And we weren’t allowed to go in that lane until later in the day.

Mid afternoon I tried out the right lane a few times but I needed more time to fiddle with the air pressures to get decent times. Whole different world in that lane as car wouldn’t spin/make any screeching noise and I didn’t have time to find the sweet spot, as I started with the left lane pressures I was using for most of day. Left lane kept getting worse as day progressed and I had tires down to mid/low 20s. I think best times were in the beginning of the day when the left lane was still fresh. I had fronts at 34-35 and rears at 32-33 psi. I quickly had to drop pressures every few runs as car spun too much and got a little sideways as we saw drop in traps and higher E/Ts even with hot lapping.

Having decent tires might have helped some as these were my old all-season Conti DWS tires/wheels. I tried to get a low 1.60 60 ft but couldn’t for the life of me. I also didn’t try Ron’s mash method which I am sure needs practice to perfect. I predicted an 11.45 yesterday. Hit the goal but I might have left a few hundredths on the table with a better 60ft. The car is maxed out though. Was pretty consistent all day.

How is PC Richard still a store?

Thanks Pete those rims do make the car lmao. As for the times my best was a 12.027 at 115 with tire spin so far she’s is tittering on hitting 11’s with some adjustments. Yea Tsivas I was trying to keep it as street as possible. The spares and tools were in the trunk plus whatever else I carry around day to day. So considering that car is hauling. Next time you can tinker all you want and I have to come to the track with less gas I the tank had about 5/8’s when I got there in the morning and a little more then 3/8’s when I left in the afternoon. So that alone would have given me that .0001 advantage ;-). First and foremost I have to figure out why she’s shortshifting after hotlapping more then 2 runs at a time on the 3rd she’ll drop 4th gear early and she falls on her face. Cheers and I’ll see you guys.

your DSG tune is frankly killing your performance. Ron at 123 MPH you have enough MPH for an 11.2 in reality. Even if the 123 was an anomoly caused by funky first half and made up in the second half, your car has the balls for an EASY 11.35. I seriously think we will see an APR or GIAC B8 run 11.2X at some point.

Hell a JHM stage 1+ manual transmission RS4 just went 11.39 @ 122.2 last night. The B8 DSG cars have always made better ET per MPH than the RS4. DSG guys making similar MPH should be able to outshift and outlaunch that car (although Jason was driving and he’s pretty good), You’ve got a full tenth on him in the 60’ and should have another 0.025 on him the rest of the track.

Compare your runs to the RS4.

They are huge on Long Island. People apparently still go to them.

Tsivas, Thanks for the additional details… Yeah a good set of tires would’ve probably helped… They really dictated which lanes you could run in at a rental? That kind of sucks… Any logs you’d be willing to share? very curious on the MAF readings given how high the air pressure was…

Saki, Don’t disagree at all… The shift hangups are costing me .05-.1 for sure… APR’s determined to fix it and I was supposed to have a new one this week but some unexpected things came up with them… Still hoping to get a new ECU tune so I can run Sat. as I’ll see some great DA’s. I only got through a few gears on the E85 but it seemed to shift better so we’ll see…

I think 11.3x is certainly doable in a great DA, with perfect shifts and good track prep…

Either way I’m happy with where the car is at especially after the scare with the fuel pump… Should be another great year next year and I know APR has some big plans ;D

That’s an awesome time for the RS4! What does stage I+ on the RS4 consist of?

Yeah the right lane was for cars with slicks/drag radials for most of day. There were about 40 cars and it got a little crowded and those high hp cars kept breaking every other run. The twin turbo jeeps running 8.7@163 are scary to watch and probably even scarier to be inside. Especially with no cage.

I really liked the new C63 S that showed up. Piggy back Rebellion tune and drag radials. running 11.0@126.7 I believe as best run. Kid didn’t really know what he was doing with setup but car was hauling ass.

JHM stage 1+ is a Vortech V3 Si supercharger (same as the stage 1, 2 and 3) but adds their air to water intercooler to stage 1 (1 is non-intercooled), and has a smaller than stage 1 pulley (1 is 6-7 psi) but a bigger pulley than stage 2 (2 is 9-10) .

Stage 1 traps high teens
Stage 1+ traps low 120s
Stage 2 traps mid 120s
Stage 3…that’s another story.

This is all street trim. Pump gas, full interior, street tires, full exhaust on. Race gas seems to add 3-4 tenths and 3-5 MPH. Not much race testing though
Stage 2 pump record was 11.1 @ 125…Stage 2 with race gas was 10.7 @ 130.

Denis’ car also has an exhaust on it, maybe lw rotors? and some aftermarket wheels that are probably same weight as stock. Will have to confirm with Denis.
