Great stuff Ron. FWIW the amax shifting seems to be helping since it’s on the power the whole time, vs potentially an accumulated .5 seconds in powerless shift time. Sure some power is lost to fluid/clutch drag during the shift, but I’m sure it’s net in the favour of amax.
I also think finally you having a baro pressure over 30"hg is a factor - you finally had conditions like the rest of us closer to sea level. And I notice your traps go down with this…very interesting to see the effect of the extra drag of denser air at speed.
Thanks for the props everyone! Was very happy but also disappointed since the car has much more in it… Just keeps me interested and excited about the car and next year! lol
Euro/Saki, Agree the dsg tune still needs some work and while I’m excited to run these times like I said it’s also disappointing in that I know the car has more in it. Do I wish APR already had it figured out? You bet but they don’t and I continue to post objective data for all to see, I’m not hiding anything. APR is committed to continue to work on it and get it right, sure I could dump the tune and run stock dsg but to me it’s a two way street they help me and I help them by testing. They review all my videos and logs, offer feebdack and make changes to the tune(s). I actually enjoy that process. Hopefully, the end result is a better product for everyone.
I’m not going to get in the whole they shouldn’t sell it thing as that’s not my call. The DSG tune is a huge improvement in many areas over stock, at this point the shifting when drag racing is about the only really issue. AMAX mode is a HUGE improvement as anyone who’s reviewed logs can see so once the shift issues are resolved it will be worth it!
For shits and giggles(and since it’s Sunday and my wife and son are out of town so I’m bored) I counted my slips for the S4, I’ve made 289 passes in the car… lol 17 in the RS… lol
‘the Gen 1 trans isn’t good enough, but we will still screw Gen 1 owners and sell them our shit software that makes you slower’
Fucking pathetic
[QUOTE=Sean@APR;11204981]Congrats to you for your run and to Ron for his.
This back and forth is a lot of fun for everybody and it keeps the platform moving forward.
I do want to point out that his transmission is a completely different animal than yours. He has a 2010 with the weak a$$ Gen 1 transmission. The 2012 got the Gen 1.5 which is much better hardware.
In short, the Gen 1 can’t close the clutches as fast or as hard as the Gen 1.5/Gen 2 units. We’re incrementally milking everything we can from Ron’s, but also remember that we’re talking about hundredths and sometimes thousandths of a second here.
On the upshot, all of this minutiae testing on Ron’s car will end up in an update.

That’s a little harsh. I’m happy Ron’s testing it for us and for Sean to develop and inform us of the differences in all the cars is nothing but good. When was honesty bad?
These aren’t street tire cars either mind you… lol I’m also out 60fting all the S6’s, RS7’s, S8’s, R8’s etc…
But if I have things right by what I’m reading here and on other threads, the dsg tune sucks and drag racing in a dsg b8 s4 takes ZERO skill? I got it… lol
I’m with jspazz, happy that Ron is doing the leg work on this one. Clearly the dsg tune isn’t 100% there yet… At least from rons posts it seems like the tune isn’t that far from perfection and apr is committed to figuring it out.
I don’t think it made Ron slower though lol. Sure he could be going faster but his car is still flying even with the poor shifting! A max mode isn’t just a gimmick either so aside from a few sloppy up shifts, it isn’t all that bad…
I get what saki is saying about selling an unfinished product though. Exact reason I haven’t bought it yet
They are selling and have sold this to dozens if not hundreds of people, and it still doesn’t work.
He’s not being honest. He’s making excuses for why the tcu on b8 cars is shit…and making no apologies for not doing their homework. Meanwhile primetime and whoever else have been struggling for over a year with this thing. And APR have collected tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Honesty would be ‘you know what? We screwed up. We thought knew what we were doing but it turns out we don’t. Sorry and here’s a refund for a product we should never have brought to market.’
Regardless of amax shifting not working 100%, raising redline to 7200 should have a advantage which only the TCU tune could give. Plus real redline without upshift, plus disabling kickdown, plus launch control in 2010 cars (I don’t want it, but some do). Some of those things I would like.

No it doesn’t suck, it FUCKING sucks. If you don’t see that your Apr underoos are on a little tight.
You’re bragging about your 60 time which is indeed shockingly good…but you should be patting audi on the back not Apr. Your dsg tune launch control isn’t even involved in your 60’ because YOU HAD TO ASK APR TO DISABLE IT!
Should I repost the videos of your car rolling when it shouldn’t and your 2.0 second 60’ times when you used it? How many cars on drag times beat that?
Hopefully you rethink that part of your post because it’s WAY off the mark.
And frankly no it doesn’t take a ton of skill to run a dsg 1/4 mile time or a zf 1/4 mile time. Nor does it take much skill in a manual audi for that matter. Drive a RWD car with over 400 hp and post a great time for the trap speed and I will be impressed. But running something nice in a dsg with quattro…lol nobody’s getting a troohy for that. Not you not rynurz who beat you, not Jeff Jones who beat you and not Auditude3.0T who beat you. Remember those guys? I don’t remember them looking for pats on the back for their skill.
Even then who the fuck cares? When did this become a discussion about 1/4 mile skill? We’re talking about your new record, your great JHM overdrive pulley and how shit your dsg tune is.
Primetime your line of discussion is kind of weird.
Correct me if Im wrong on anything. Please.
The Apr TCU tune was making your car launch SLOWER than a stock tcu tune, so you had Apr delete their launch program
The Apr TCU tune is making your car shift slower than a stock tcu tune
, as evidenced by the videos and your posts.
Apr knows this and to explain it Apr claims it’s because the 1st Gen hardware is shit and can’t handle their tcu tuning…yet they still sell the tune for $1000 or whatever it is
Is any of that wrong? I don’t get this whole sensitive thing about your driving skills? You get the most out of your car. So do a dozen other B8 S4 guys. Maybe more? Who cares if vogz makes cracks about how easy driving a dsg is? Literally nobody takes that personally but you.
Frankly I’ve driven a dsg and I didn’t feel like I could possibly fuck it up. I cut a 1.72 60’ on pump gas with tune pulleys and intake , and I weigh 240 lbs. Went 12.2@114 while bleeding off boost and with super conservative parameters. My first pass ever. Maybe I should get a trophy?
That doesn’t fit the ‘go Apr’ narrative. I’ve suggested it for weeks and for whatever reason, he continues to run as is. Why? Who knows. Maybe so it doesn’t make Apr look bad? If he goes 11.26@123.5 on stock tcu tune that destroys Apr’s sales.
I get supporting a company that is good to you. I do it with JHM. Good guys make good parts that work… So they get my support. I don’t get the whole praising Apr for their tcu tune because of a 60’ time when Apr had zero influence on that 60’ time. That’s just weird.
Yes, my car can launch better than APR’s LC so it was removed, they’ve admitted to that… That’s old news anyway… I’m pretty sure you have an option to get it or not get it when you buy… No driver skill so anyone should be able to cut a 1.57 60ft time…
Yes, when the shift hangs up/bounces off the limiter it shifts slower… I’ve never argued that point nor has APR, they’re working on making it not happen… Think I’ve said that numerous times…
OK, if you call that their explanation that’s fine…
No hard feelings on my driving any idiot could do it on this shitty dsg tune…
I’m sure your times were a result of good driving and the superior JHM tune… Can’t wait to see more results…
Oh but until then… my car still has the best ET, MPH, and 60ft time… Even with all it’s issues… Looking forward to next year… Have a good one!
Ok so you’re agreeing with what I said about the tcu tune. Good stuff. You seemed confused for a minute there. You should edit your former posts.
No ‘my times’ in Georges b8 s4 were a result of the great audi dsg and the jhm tune, 2 pulleys and an intake. Not my driving. I don’t think much skill was involved in the times I ran to be honest. I managed to cut a good 60 foot time vs an ok one because of your posts here explaining how to do it for the most part. And because dsg is excellent.
You openly and publicly mocked the GIAC DSG tune launch control and tcu programming for 2 years because your stock audi tcu was performing better. That was before you made yourself the poster boy for the Apr dsg tuning program…which now makes your tcu perform worse than stock AND GIAC lol. That’s some comedy there.
Anyway I still don’t understand why you’re talking about driving skill. That was vogz who made a crack on audizine about how easy dsg is. I don’t think I saw anyone mention you anywhere. You’ve got a bit of a Carly Simon thing going on there. Also vogZ is calling dsg quattro easy vs a RWD big hp car with a clunky shifter and an awful gearbox… Aka a nightmare. But why you’re taking that personally I have no idea.
