Brand new here! Couple questions

Hey guys!

I suppose this could be an intro thread as well! I have an 06 black s4, I’ve had her for almost 5 months now and I’m ready to start modding.

So far it has:

Stasis catback
Tsw nurburgring 19x9 wheels

This spring I am looking to add a few other things, while maintaining daily drive ability!
I want to add:
JHM 91 tune
JHM lwcp
JHM snub mounts
Downpipes of some sort
And possibly the JHM trio shifter package
The questions I have are:

  1. what downpipes fit best with and sound the best with the stasis catback?
  2. Is there a better option for my future mod lists?
  3. what lowering springs would everyone recommend?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
  1. 2.5" catless is best, in my opinion. You can get by just doing piggies though, it all comes down the what you really want to do. I would personally avoid anything with HFCs, since it seems they are hit or miss on our cars, and the factory cats work extremely well; which would make it hard for me to justify paying for them, when I could just do piggies.

The noise will be one of the differences between the two, obviously catless will be slightly louder than piggies.

Cost is the main difference here, piggies you can do for just your own time vs the downpipes you have to pay for. Catless also would fail a visual inspection or sniffer (which I rarely have seen done in IL- not sure if they do them where you are or not though) but would pass as long as there is no CEL (JHM tune takes care of this)

Piggies would pass visual, and same thing with the CEL.

  1. You are already pointed in the right direction, if it comes from JHM, you aren’t going to be disappointed. I’d throw in control arms and sway bars too. I only did the RS4 rear sway and it cleaned up body roll nicely for daily driving. If you want more than that, the hotchkis bars are thicker and would reduce body roll even more - these you can also get through JHM. Depending on your mileage, even just replacing your control arms with fresh OEM ones would make it feel much better vs. the worn ones in the car, but I’d definitely upgrade to either the 034 or the stern adjustables.

The list of things is so long to do that I could write a paragraph on what I would and plan on doing myself.

  1. This is a question I am planning on asking in the future myself, so I’m interested in peoples responses :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a great list of future mods right there, you are on the right track for sure. What state do you live in because that could help us choose what to do in terms of dp’s based on emission requirements.

Other than that you are on the right track and I’m
Exited to help you grow with your car. Remember though, sometimes maintenance is your most effective modifIcation and make sure your spark plugs, coil packs, fuel filter, 02 sensors and valve cover gaskets are fresh because they can zap your car of power.

As for springs, H&R’s ride and sit nice.

Welcome. Nice looking list you’ve got started. Wouldn’t change a thing there. If you’re looking for catless DPs email trexturk from this site. The word on the street is(love saying that) he makes them for a good price.

Now for payment of this advise you’ll need to post pics of your car… ;D

^ Seriously, we don’t work for free lol

Welcome!! Quick question - I know the Stasis does not have a crossover, but have you added one?

Thanks guys! I appreciate the welcome!

As far as downpipes and smog restrictions are concerned, I’m from Canada! so no worries (Yet)…
I am just looking for the best sounding/ performing downpipes that fit well with the Stasis cat back.

SpeedETC, I have not added any sort of crossover, the catback has been installed as it came!

Now seeing as how pics are being demanded, I will oblige…

On to the pics!

This is the day I got her, straight to tunerworks to order exhaust!

Finally I got a call from Tunerworks saying a fancy package had arrived for me. Exhaust install!

Lookin good!

Since smog restrictions don’t matter, hit up trexturk for catless dp’s, best price you will find for dp’s.

Transaction completed…haha

Nice ride. Its gonna look real good moar low. The only things I’d change is the grill and valence color to black. Love the smokey tails.

looking at those same wheels, what size are they diameter, width, and offset?

I really want to do trex turk pipes also, I have seen pics of them and they look great and many people recommend them, just worried about the visual inspection in Texas so haven’t pulled the trigger myself.

Where would I find more info on them?? I just Pm’d him but would like to see some reviews, possibly sound clips!

Also I will get the exact offset for you, I have them packed away in my garage for winter so I’ll dig them out. the diameter/width is 19x9

Not sure if B6JoeS4 has any vids of his car since he now has trexturk dp’s w/ a 2.5" catback.

I’m sure he could get one if you ask nicely

Another Calgarian!! ya!

These videos are old…might make a new one this week. It’s so easy and fun to spin the snow tires

There used to be a spot on the audizine classifieds section, but it looks like its gone. I have just read many users recommend them in many different threads so don’t have any write-up review or anything.

Plus, what else are you going to do anyway, spend 1000 + on FI or some other DP’s, the only other thing comparable are the Milltek catless downpipes and they are still at least 50 - 100 dollars more expensive.

Woo! More Canada representing! BC here :stuck_out_tongue: Ride looks miiiint

hey man I would check the Staisis exhaust. I would take a pic and feel free to post it here. If you don’t have a X pipe your going to be actually costing hp. Staiss has been on a money grab for several years and back when they made some of there first kits they didn’t put a X pipe in as they wree all about making as much money as possible Later down the road it was found out that the non x pipe exhaust systems actually cost hp. Not only that but its not good for the mtoor. THe high RPM revs along with the non ballence of the motor using a X is hard on the motor. Even the stock res section has a flow over cross section.

Also suspension and sway bar is a great way to go. Control arms are something that when fixed and updated will make the car run and feel great.

good news is, Stasis is a 2.5" system. Which people will hound you over if you bought a 2.25 so that is a good start. Second, I recommend just pigging your stock downpipes with the tune for the cheapest solution & save that $1200 on downpipes you would have spend on Suspension!!

Your wheels would look much better if your car was an 1" or so lower.

Hey Allan! I didnt realize you bought Perfect Dark’s S4. She’s a beauty.

Surprised at how many Albertan’s there are on here now!

holy shit that car looks a lot like maddog/mbgt72’s car. Needs moar lights and lowz though.
