Very nice! Loving that you got the rnse in there too. What’s the shift knob like?

It is still at jhm but i had that same shift knob on my old b5 s4. I personally love it for a small interior mod that really adds to the fun factor. Shifts feel much more definitive and the delrin material feels great imo.

Very cool!

Plus the Delrin doesn’t change temperature as drastically as the Stainless Steel knobs.

Great point. Was thinking same. I have a metal shift knob in my old c4. Freezing in winter and ridiculously hot in summer. Lol!

lovin the updates. When is the plan to get the car back.

Plan is after holidays in a few weeks

Flight booked for Monday the 11th. Hard to contain the excitement to get it back. Long road

Heck Im excited for you. Cant wait to hear more and read about the end results

Long 12 hour drive home but worth it. The car has certainly been transformed. Biggest thing to put a smile on my face even more so than the supercharged power is the 0a3 6mt trans swap. So smooth and the jhm trio really shines in this application. Its like a little 1/2 inch click into each gear. Love it. The 2.5 dps really seem to have livened up the exhaust note and responsiveness and the supercharger, well we all know of its merits and performance. Also, the throttle response is wonderful thanks to the tuning. It really is a noticeable change.

Guys at JHM were great throughout and no less upon picking it up. Very excited for me and likewise. I hope some diy folks pick up this trans swap kit. It really transformed the car. All of their hard work to this project really showed.

A couple glitches to sort out still after such an intense project.

  1. No cruise control after trans swap. Jason said he would still search for a solution. It doesnt bother me too much as I rarely use it even on long hwy stretches.

  2. Seems to be a flat spot in the power delivery shortly after 2k rpm. I am a bit surprised by this with the s/c being so linear in power.

  3. I notice a distinct ticking/clicking that follows rpms when putting around town. Not clutch chatter. This is either exhaust, engine or s/c related imo. It obviously is drown out once the exhaust is at full throat. But it is definitely something needs tracked down.

  4. Need to readjust my air spring system and ride height. They installed some longer leveling arms at my request. Thing is these arms trick the air system into lowering more at level 1 than factory and raising higher in 3/4. I had messed with the settings and need to return it back to factory level 2 which is 402 mm from bottom of fender to wheel/hub center. As it stands now, my level 1 is too low and rubs. Want no part of rubbing. Its a freakin allroad.

All in all I couldnt be more pleased and thankful to JHM for a successful first time build. More power to be added down the road after we learn how much is safe at my elevation constraints. Some engine logs and boost/rpm videos are in order per JHM before we add more. Wanted to have a larger inlet from get go but they advised against it until they had more actual engine health data.

WOW epic build. Pictures when you can please. You cant have too many of those.

Commig from a B5 transmission the OA3 is years and miles better. It really makes the old B5 transmission feel like the old pile of crap that it is in compairison. The 0A3 loves to be power shifted and will take it very well.

The no cruse sounds odd but when you think about it.They are the only ones in the world to make this swap possibe and the technical aspecs behind it have to be staggering. It cant be easy. I think this really shows just how good the guys at JHM are.

As for the clicking you would have to think its something in the exhaust.

The power at 2k I would think after you send them the logs that could be sorted out. Also that is when the blower should start making boost so you would think that might be where the car starts pulling back power.

Did you get a chance to really lay into the car power wise. How did it feel.

Thanks for the updates. Looking forward to hearing more.

A video would be good too. Very exciting build. One of a kind in the world I’m guessing? What’s your full modlist as it sits now.

Oh ya I layed into it. It really is a different tq pull and smooth increase in speed. Now I know turbo lag, blah, blah, blah, but it is obviously a very different feeling acceleration. I do miss the big hit from my rs6r b5 s4. That said, It is surpisingly potent and before you know it you are hitting 100 mph on the on ramp. Very deceiving if that’s the right word. I love the intake, engine and exhaust note from the setup. It is a raw and ruckus kind of sound, yet still refined in power delivery if that makes sense. Need to get some real world performance testing but for now, I can only describe through words how it behaves and ride characteristics. It is great inside the cabin cruising down the hwy with very little to zero cabin drone. Big + in my book.

Spoke with jhm about the tick/click and they said if it is the same sound they heard, it is the mix of the dps and magnaflow exhaust and “normal” for my particular setup. Mentioned they heard same and made sure everything in the exhaust stream was not leaking. Said it is potentially from the location of the mf x pipe being further down stream than ideal and the natural exhaust pulses it creates being too far down stream than ideally further up.

Let me ask this though, it only is apparent in gear and under load, not in neutral revs at same rpms ~2200 to 3k. Still exhaust related?

It is one of a kind in the world as far as I know. Kind of neat.

JHM has made a video they showed me when I picked it up. I will get some gopro footage of my own. Both for noise diagnosis and just for fun.

The car is a stock internal 4.2 engine
JHM supercharged/tuned
JHM/fast intentions 2.5" catless dp
2.5" magnaflow exhaust
Hotchkis sway bars
034 motorsports billet motor mounts
034 density trans mount
JHM custom cross member
JHM swapped 0A3 transmission w/ 4:1 diff

JHM shift trio package

Could be more, but that is the big stuff. Things to be added after the newness wears off, intake mani, maybe a new fast intentions exhaust (or headers certainly once engine is pulled for timing service), larger charger inlet pending JHM approval to give me more power potential here at elevation, bbk and jhm lwrotors…it never ends ;D

So thankful to jhm for taking this on and executing it so nicely. Long time coming but worth wait!

Wow that’s awesome! Were there any challenges with mounting the SC vs the B6/7 platform? Did you need a lot of custom brackets/fittings etc?

Would the exhaust + headers would be the next big gains over the larger inlet?

The allroad has more room under the hood and behind the bumper. No special mounting or issues. It did need a different silicone intake hose (easy fix) as the allroads is slightly raised vs the S4. Other than that it was a very similar install if not “easier”. Also less ac line relocation.

Headers for certain. I doubt I would see much by just swapping 2.5" axel back exhaust systems. Possibly though but def headers would help. Maybe stage 1+ intercooled ala rs4!?8)

Even kept both fog lights. Ha!

I am really concerned about the ticking noise under load at around 2k rpms. Follows the rpm revs. Tick, tick, tick, tick…video is difficult to hear but it is there. I can hear what is concerning me in the video. There are two short “pulls” accelerating back to back where the tapping/clicking sound is faint but audible in video. https://youtu.be/4z-3BAjSJcI

To further pinpoint, it is only noticeable from driver side. It can be heard but only faintly on passenger. It is originating from driver side as best I can tell.

That sounds like an exhaust leak.

If it is down stream from the stock mani that would be a load off. If its a cracked/mani leak, not so much. Can the exhaust mainfolds be replaced without pulling the engine?

As a cheap experiment/test, and knowing store shelf octane boosters are less than effective for most part, I threw a can of royalpurple max boost in to see if it reduced/eliminated noise to try and rule out pre-detonation or pinging. Sound was still there.

Collecting engine logs for jhm to review and further rule that out.

Jason is leaning toward it being my particular exhausts setup and normal after listening to the vids I sent. Sure we’ll get to bottom of it one way or another.

Thanks for listening and your continued input.

From what you can hear in the video its the exhaust. If you hear it more with a wall or something on the side of the car it should be more likely its the exahust. One thing you can do is to get the car in the air and check the exhaust that way for leaks. Or if you can get it to happen when your driving try putting the car in a high gear and chug the motor see if the pitch of the noise changes. That will also help point it out.

As for the manifold there isnt a very good chance its that. They are very robust not like the B5. I have never heard of anyone with a bad manifold on the B6 or 7 S4. I would feel very comfortable telling you its not that
