C5 allroad

Those pictures are from FWP in the AZ RS4 section. Supposedly he was sticking in traffic and it fused.

The second one was a stg4 from an RS4.

[QUOTE] Stage 4 clutch kit for roughly 17000 babied miles for the last 5 years. It just failed last night. I dropped it in my work parking lot at around 4500

in retrospect my 1R has now over 32k miles and still drives fine 80% of the time. It just doesn’t have the bite to hold up to the abuse from headers.

Care to elaborate

Thanks

Out of all of the clutches I have driven, the 3R to me in both the 2.7T and 4.2 NA/SC is amazing. It combines the street-ability that you would want in a car that is driven on the road on more days than just the weekend, and it holds like a boss when you launch with some power.

The pedal feel is firm but not too stiff. The RS4 pressure plate feels like stock, well because it is an OEM pressure plate. To me that gets boring. I hot rod my car, I want to feel like I am driving a hot rod. By feeling that feedback in the pedal it makes my drive more enjoyable (personal opinion).

On the flip side, I can press the clutch pedal down on the R-series and hold it down for as long as I want. The clutch I had in my old z28, If I had the sucker pressed for longer than 30 seconds my leg was shaking.

I wanted to put it in my A4 but it was extremely overkill, as the RS4 PP and Stage1 disc is already more then enough for my car

Thanks Jake. Any feedback or caveats agsinst the 5R?

The 5R s great too. It takes a slightly learning curve, but once you get it down you can daily drive it. It really isn’t that difficult though, but being a puck style clutch it frightens people.

Hmmm, maybe persuded me to opt for the 3R. Any marked difference in clutch life expectancy between the two?

What about life span of a 3R vs 5R clutch? Is having a plucked clutch going to to have a significantly shorter lifespan? Some seem to choose the 5R over 3R due to the price difference, but I’d really 2nd guess that choice if I’d just wind up replacing the clutch much sooner

Naturally the 3R should have more lifespan than the 5R. The puck style works because there is more pressure on a smaller area, and with the aggressive material it is able to bite and hold very well. At the same time, their is less material taking up the friction so it will get worn faster as compared to a full faced 3R that can evenly distribute pressure around more material.

Keep in mind that driving style has a lot to play in clutch life.

I have opted for the 3R. Flip flopped

Lots of people think race stuff is better. And if your racing then it is better. The street strip parts usually are a good in between. The 5R being the puck style has full engagement all the time even low clamp pressure. What this means is when you try to slip the clutch to try and take off in first gear the 5 puck is still trying to grab. This can make for small chips in the material as its always trying to grab. The 3r is better for street driving due to it being able to slightly engage at low RPM driving for coming out of first gear.

Since the 5r wont slip it will ware faster and be harsher on engagement. If your making big power you need a 5r between shifts to be able to hold the instant power the JHM blower kits make. The 3r can hold tons of the same power it just allows the clutch to bite with a little more buffer

Sounds and looks great. Where’s the rest of the vid?

Thats all I was privy to. Lol!

There will be more, don’t worry ;D

That’s a damn good sounding all road. I love hearing something like that coming from a wagon. Just badass.

Can’t wait for more!

WOW that sounded crazy. Looked like the mufflers were not on. It sounded mean but not too sure it has a nice everyday driving sound to it.

The more I see your allroad the more Im tempted to do what your doing.

The car looks great. Cant wait for more

Totally not daily drivable frankly. No catback on. Should tame down

Fingers crossed but it looks like the long road and frankly agonizing wait at times is close to an end. Should be picking it up in a few weeks. Merry Christmas

Kudos to JHM for their dedication to execute a swap that has never been done before (that I know of) and helping create a one of a kind unique audi grocery getter. Hoping it won’t be the last. So damn excited to row through the gears in a 4.2 allroad!

Also a big thanks to BCsniper for reaching out early on to offer help with transmission parts for the swap.
